Isaiah lived in Jerusalem in the country of Judah. Isaiah heard God say, “Whom shall I send to tell people my message?”   Isaiah said, “Send me, God. I will go.” Isaiah became a prophet. A prophet tells people what God wants them to know.   God chose Isaiah to tell the people some wonderful news. Isaiah wrote down what God told him. Isaiah wrote that a young woman would have a son, a special baby boy. The special baby would be God’s Son. The baby would be Jesus.   God’s message to Isaiah helped the people know that Jesus

would love all people. Jesus would help people understand more about God. He would grow into a man. He would be wise. He would help people know and love God. People who heard or read the words on the Bible scroll knew that God was planning to send His Son, Jesus. Recall the story. Show the teaching picture. Ask: “Whom did God tell about Jesus? What was the wonderful news? What did Isaiah do after he heard the news?” Refer to the time line. Place the cutout circles on the floor. Ask: “Which picture shows Isaiah?” Ask a volunteer to help tape this picture to the number 1 circle on the time line. Comment: “God spoke to Isaiah and asked him to tell this good news many, many years before Jesus was born.” Point to number 5 on the time line and note that this is where Jesus was born, many years after Isaiah told people the good news.

Pray. Ask for any prayer requests from the kindergartners. Pray and thank God for doing what He planned to do. Thank God for sending His Son, Jesus.

Make life application. Repeat the Bible verse. Say: “God told Isaiah that He would send His Son to be born. Let’s practice our Bible verse using the drum.” Demonstrate saying the Bible verse while tapping on the drum. Pass the drum around until each child has said the verse.

>> Family Connection Send the December “Parent E-mail” (enhanced CD). Hand out the Christmas Letter (Pack Item 18). Remind parents of any upcoming Christmas activities at your church. Give each child a copy of the Kindergarten Connection weekly page. Send home mail from the mailbox with each child.

6 Pray 7 Play in Bible-Learning Activities

Pray, thanking God for loving us, sharing His plans with us, and sending Jesus to us.

As the children are enjoying the activities below, reinforce the fact that God made plans. He had a plan for Jesus to be born, and He let people know His plan. A Make and work a puzzle. For each child, cut a piece of construction paper into three simple puzzleshaped pieces. Print the words BIBLE, GOD, and JESUS on a piece of paper for the children to copy with markers or crayons. Help them print one word per puzzle piece and then fit the pieces together. Remind the children that God told Isaiah to write on a Bible scroll that God’s Son would be born. B Make and follow blueprints. Encourage the children to create simple plans for buildings by tracing blocks laid out on blue paper. Then they can build the buildings they planned. As they draw and build wonderful buildings, remind them that God makes plans for us and He does what He says He will do. Ask what plan of God’s we learned about today. (Jesus would be born.) C Draw illustrations for Bible scroll stories. Provide drawing paper and markers or crayons for each kindergartner. Remind the children that God told Isaiah His plan. Isaiah wrote God’s plan for Jesus to be born on a Bible scroll. Encourage the children to draw pictures to illustrate God’s plan. Roll their pictures into a scroll. D Play “Tell God’s Plans.” Sit in a circle. Toss a beanbag to a child. He or she shares one thing God planned about Jesus’ life. That child then tosses the beanbag to another child, and the game continues. Guide the children to facts that help tell the story surrounding Jesus’ birth. These might include: God chose Isaiah to tell people about Jesus. God told Mary and Joseph that a baby would be born. The baby’s name was Jesus. Mary and Joseph were chosen as Jesus’ parents. The shepherds heard about Jesus. The wise men came and visited Jesus.

8 Clean Up 9 Play “What Did God Plan?”

Thank the children for helping clean up. Remind them to clean the tables and the floor under the tables.

Tape a finish line at one end of the room. Instruct the children to line up shoulder to shoulder. Say: “What did God plan?” and then give a direction such as “Take 3 steps forward.” The children will reply, “For Jesus to be born” and follow the instruction given. Play until all children have crossed the finish line. Play the game again. This is not a race.

10 Dismiss

Help the children to gather their belongings, papers, and today’s Kindergarten Connection page. As a child’s parents arrive, praise their child for something he did well during the morning.
