Attendance Dear Parents and Carers,

Check back next week to see how your child’s class has done.

Welcome back to a new and exciting school year at Burlington Danes Primary Academy! We have had a wonderful first week firstly inducting our new staff and then welcoming back all the children in Years 1 and 2. I have been particularly impressed by how the children have returned this week. It was wonderful to see their smart uniforms and the pride they are taking in their appearance. We have spent time this week practising our routines and expectations for behaviour. In our family dining lunchtimes we have focused on good table manners and encouraging children to try new foods. There is a lot of useful information in this week's newsletter. We have included some photos of our new members of staff to help you put a face to the names. Please introduce yourself and make them feel welcome. We feel very lucky to have such a dedicated and capable staff team working at BDPA this year. Next Friday we would like to invite you to our first celebration assembly. We will begin at the slightly earlier time of 1.45pm and I will be sharing with parents some of the goals we have for the year ahead. I look forward to seeing you all then! Have a fantastic weekend,

Gemma Grierson

A great start to a new school year The children in Years 1 and 2 started back at school this week and have settled well into their new classes. They’ve already begun to make new friends, settle into routines and have been thrust into new and exciting learning opportunities. In this section of the newsletter next week you’ll be able to read all about what our children in each year group have been learning about. We hope this enables you to discuss your child’s learning with them at home and to draw links with what they’re learning in school to their wider lives at home, giving context to their learning. More specific information regarding your child’s learning will be shared at various points throughout the year and teachers welcome discussion at the end of the day about your child’s learning.

School Timings From September... The arrangements at the beginning of the school day are as follows: School gates will open at 8:15am and children will go directly into class at this time. Children arriving after 8:30am are late and must be taken to the school office to sign in and provide a reason for the lateness. There will be no teacher on duty outside and children can’t be left before this time. With this in mind, we will continue to run our breakfast club to provide childcare before school, should this be required. More information about this service is provided below.

Breakfast Club

Wood Lane Entrance

Breakfast club runs from 7:15-8:15am each morning.

We are happy for parents to use the Wood Lane gate between the times of

We have drastically reduced the cost of this club to £2 per day to make this more affordable for families. Spaces at this club are limited to 23 children per day. This club could expand if there was enough interest. Breakfast club needs to be booked in advance. To do so, please email the school office with the following information: • Name of your child • Class • Which days you would like them to attend (e.g. Monday-Friday) • For what duration you’d like them to attend (e.g. one week, one month, this term, all year) Payments for school club can be made in cash or cheque at the school office or via bank transfer.

Student Photos Children will be having individual school photos taken on Friday 15th September.

8-8.15am and after 4pm. Outside of these times parents and pupils will be asked to turn back and walk through the Du Cane Road entrance. The gate between the secondary site and primary site has to remain shut as part of safeguarding procedures, there should however be members of staff around who can open the gate should you find it shut when you want to walk though, it may require you waiting a couple of minutes.

Car Passes All parents who require a drive on pass will need to present a new doctors note at the start of the school year to receive a new parking pass. If you received on at the end of last year, this will no longer be valid.

After School Clubs All school clubs, including breakfast club and P3, begin next week, Monday 11th September. If Mr. Currie received your completed choices slip, you will have been sent an email to confirm your place on Friday afternoon. Reception children will receive a club choices slip on Monday. This will be found in their book bags.

Water Bottles

Headlice

We have recently placed an order for school branded water bottles from which the children can drink throughout the day.

As pupils return to school and central heating is turned on this can be a prime time for headlice to appear. Please help us to keep them at bay with a regular weekly check of your children's hair. Long hair should be tied back and if you spot headlice please report to school immediately so we can share a letter with all other pupils in the class.

These will be on sale from the school office (when they arrive) and will be sold at £2 each.

Parent Meetings Parent meetings will be held for all children from Reception to Year 2 on

Tuesday 10th and Wednesday 11th October. This will be an opportunity for parents to talk about how their child is settling in to their new class and for parents to get to know their new teacher. In addition, we will be sending out, next week, a new home school agreement, which we would like you to read and sign to bring along to your child’s first parent meeting.

KAA Update KAA students start back next week and will continue to use 8 classrooms upstairs in the primary school as well as their new school site on the parade ground on Wormwood Scrubs. As detailed in the letter at the end of last term there will be no contact between BDPA and KAA pupils. If you have and questions or concerns about the arrangement please speak to Mrs Grierson.

Assemblies Class Assemblies Each class will have an opportunity to present an assembly to which family members are invited to attend. These take place between 2:00-2:20pm and start promptly. Please arrive in plenty of time. The dates of class assemblies for this term are as follows:

21st September 5th October 2nd November 9th November 23rd November 30th November 7th December

Bond Class Dahl Class Blyton Class Donaldson Class Milne Potter Rosen

Celebration Assemblies Celebration assemblies take place each Friday, again between 2:00-2:20pm. We celebrate the achievements of children throughout the week, share excellent pieces of work and present certificates to children for their accomplishments. If your child is to be presented with a certificate at this assembly we will send a text message to alert you and you’re welcome to come along to see them receive it.

Parents’ Association We are so pleased that our parent’s association is so engaged and active in promoting our school and raising funds to support and enhance our children’s learning.

Last year they raised approximately £5000, through the promotion and organisation of various events throughout the year including: the winter and summer fairs, spellathon and bake sale. This money will be used to buy theatre tickets to take all of the children to the Lyric at Christmas. If you’d like to get involved, please send an email to Chole Joseph to be added to the WhatsApp group. [email protected]

Parents Representatives A big thank you to our parent representatives for their hard work last academic year. We are now looking for new representatives for each of our classes. The role involves termly meetings with the Headteacher to communicate any thoughts, ideas or concerns from parents. We would also like our parent representatives to support our Parent Association and help to get parents involved in our school fundraising projects.
