What:

The Jefferson/Overseas Technology Institute (JOSTI) is an annual five-day technology training experience for overseas educators. JOSTI 2014 offers training in two strands: • Real Teachers Only! (K-12) • Real Techies Only! There will also be a special emphasis on virtual learning, highlighting collaborative communities and shared resources.

Who:

JOSTI is for educators who wish to increase awareness, understanding and use of technology. Teachers, administrators, technology staff, and librarians are invited to apply. A/OS member schools may send one or more participants. Technology training will be open to approximately 75 participants. One participant per school will be given first priority; others will be enrolled on a space-available basis.

Where: This annual conference is normally held at the Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology, in Fairfax, Virginia, but due to construction will be held at another Fairfax school site in 2014. Real Teachers Only! (K-12) June 23-June 27, 2014

Audience: The Jefferson/Overseas Technology Institute (JOSTI)* is a five-day technology conference for American Overseas Schools who are interested in “hands-on” training for integrating technology across various grade levels and curriculums. This annual conference is normally held at the Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology, in Fairfax, Virginia, but due to construction will be held at another Fairfax school site in 2014. The elementary technology integration strand will focus on “cutting edge” applications, with an emphasis on reading, writing and mathematics applications in the K-6 environment The secondary strand will focus on integrating and using technology tools and software in a variety of curricular areas There will be a special focus on designing and implementing virtual learning environments Many sessions will be appropriate for both elementary and secondary participants Sessions designed specifically for classroom teachers to support subject content And much more! Real Techies Only! June 23-June 27, 2014

Audience: The Jefferson/Overseas Technology Institute (JOSTI)* is a five-day technology conference for American Overseas Schools educators who are interested in an intensive exposure to technology and networking resources in the PreK-12 environment. This annual conference is normally held at the Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology, in Fairfax, Virginia, but due to construction will be held at another Fairfax school site in 2014. The Real Techies Only strand is intended for technology coordinators and other staff responsible for network administration. World Virtual School (Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, June 23-25): · Sharing and networking among select representatives from the eight Regional Associations · Exploring regional and inter-regional collaborative initiatives and the Global Educators Online (GEO) website initiative Techie Topics (June 23-June 27) · Alternative, cost-saving, networking solutions using thin client, Linux, and open source · Infrastructure planning, management and design, including topics such as wiring, hubs, routers, and wireless · Wireless security and related issues and topics · Network security issues: firewalls, access-lists, hardening vulnerable systems, patching, encryption, etc. · And so much more! · Participants will also have opportunities to cross over into the Real Teachers Only JOSTI session strands To apply:

ACCOMMODATIONS: Housing will be provided at the George Mason University campus, in Fairfax, Virginia. Housing will be paid for participants for the nights of Sunday, June 22 through Thursday, June 26, with a checkout of Friday, June 27, 2014. Transportation will be provided to/from GMU to the site of the conference and to optional evening events. All breakfasts and lunches and dinner on two conference nights will be served at the conference site. Any additional nights, meals, and transportation expenses are the responsibility of the participant. Jefferson/Overseas Schools Technology Institute (JOSTI) Opportunity Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology (TJHSST) invites all FCPS educators to attend or present at this year’s Jefferson/Overseas Schools Technology Institute (JOSTI). TJHSST, in collaboration with the U.S. State Department’s Office of Overseas Schools, hosts this innovative, exciting, and hands-on five-day instructional institute. It is full of professional development opportunities (for beginners to experts) about best-practice use and management of computer, network and Internet technologies for all educational levels and subjects for teachers, administrators, technology staff, specialists, and librarians.
