COSTA RICA!

Discover the history and culture of beautiful Costa Rica, combined with the remarkable musical talents of the Purduettes, on this exclusive concert and travel opportunity!

MARCH 11-19 2 0 1 6

DEAR FRIENDS, Purdue Musical Organizations will soon embark on a once-in-a-lifetime tour to Costa Rica with our all-women’s ensemble, the Purduettes. Although the Purduettes had the opportunity to travel with the Glee Club and Bells to Europe in 2013, the last time they went on their own performance tour was their 2006 Canada Tour. While the focus of the Costa Rica tour is our students, PMO Club Director’s Circle and Benefactors Circle members will have an opportunity to come along. It is our intention to deliver an exclusive experience for our students and our guests for this special trip with the Purduettes. I hope you will consider joining us on our journey to Costa Rica!

William E. Griffel Director, Purdue Musical Organizations

SPECIAL NOTE: The Costa Rican climate in March will be very warm. Average temperatures this time of year are between 80 and 85 degrees; in 2015, Costa Rica experienced unseasonably high temperatures between 88 and 90 degrees in March. We want to be sure all travelers are informed and prepared for this weather.

DAY 1

Friday, March 11 Depart United States San José | D We depart Purdue University via motor coaches for the Indianapolis International Airport. We then depart for San José, Costa Rica, with one layover. Upon arrival in San José, we will meet our tour manager, who takes us on a tour of the city. Tonight and tomorrow, we stay at the San José Palacio Hotel. We enjoy a sumptuous Welcome Dinner complete with a Costa Rican dance show.

DAY 2

Saturday, March 12 San José | B, L, D Breakfast is provided at our hotel every morning of the tour. Following breakfast, we depart for the InBio Park to learn about the biodiversity of Costa Rica in a special guided tour. We will learn about flora and fauna and see Costa Rican wildlife. We then enjoy a Purduette concert in the Basilica de Los Angeles. We end the evening with a traditional Costa Rican meal.

DAY 3

Sunday, March 13 San José | Sarchi | Arenal | B, L, D Following breakfast, we load our luggage and check out of our hotels before departing for Poás Volcano National Park. This is the most visited park in Costa Rica and covers an area of approximately 16,000 acres; the summit is 8,900 feet. One of the attractive features about Poás is the ability to get all the way to the edge of the crater. The main crater is 950 feet deep and is quite active, with frequent small geyser and lava eruptions; however, the last major eruptions were during 1952-54. Two more craters make up parts of the park, the extinct Von Frantzuis crater and the Botos crater. Botos is a beautiful cold green water crater lake. Have your hiking shoes on today! We will follow a four-mile wellmarked trail to the two inactive craters. There is a shorter trail that is an option as well. We will have an alternate activity for those who do not wish to do the hike. After lunch we will continue to Arenal Zone; on the way we will visit Sarchi, known as the Cradle of Costa Rican Artisans because of its fine workshops. Here we will have time to enjoy the work of the local artisans as they create the famous typical oxcart, and you will be able to shop for that special souvenir! Upon arrival in Arenal, we check in at the Arenal Springs Resort, where we will stay tonight and tomorrow. We enjoy another traditional Costa Rican meal for dinner.

DAY 4

Monday, March 14 Arenal | B, L, D Following breakfast, we depart for Arenal Volcano National Park. This volcano is active but without lava eruptions; however, in the park you can see old eruptions and lava trails. After enjoying lunch in Arenal we depart for La Fortuna Church where the Purduettes will have an afternoon concert. We end the evening with dinner at a local restaurant in Arenal before returning to our resort.

DAY 5

Tuesday, March 15 Arenal | Jaco | B, L, D Following breakfast, we load our luggage and check out of our hotel before departing for the Pacific Coast. On our way we stop at the Tarcoles River to enjoy a boat ride in the Jungle River and a crocodile adventure. Here you can see one of the largest populations of American crocodiles on the continent. We will discover the mangrove swamp area with a high biodiversity, which includes a large number of aquatic birds and the red macaw Conservation Reserve. The boats will take us on the journey of a lifetime into an impressive ecosystem composed of four different mangle species, each one representing

an important ecological habitat. After lunch we continue on to the Pacific Coast. Upon arrival we check in at Croc’s Casino Resort in Jaco and enjoy dinner. We will stay here tonight, Wednesday and Thursday evening.

DAY 6

Wednesday, March 16 Jaco | B, L, D Following breakfast, we depart for Manuel Antonio National Park. This park contains a charming combination of rain forest, beaches and coral reefs. The beaches are the most beautiful in the country, lined with lush forest, and the snorkeling is excellent, too. The forest is home for sloths, iguanas, the rare and adorable squirrel monkeys and millions of colorful little crabs. And the trail that winds around Punta Cathedral affords some spectacular views. The park is easy to reach and is near a good selection of restaurants. We end the day with a traditional Costa Rican meal and overnight.

DAY 7

Thursday, March 17 Jaco | B, L, D Following breakfast and a leisurely morning, get ready for a relaxing beach day! We will spend the day at the beach and enjoy the hotel facilities. We will have lunch and dinner at the hotel.

DAY 8

Friday, March 18 Jaco | San José | B, L, D Following breakfast, we will check out of our hotel and depart back to San José. After stopping for lunch along the way, we arrive at Auditorio Nacional, where the Purduettes will have an afternoon concert. Upon arrival in San José, we will check in to the Palacio Hotel, where we stayed the first evening. We end our last evening in Costa Rica with a special farewell dinner.

DAY 9

Saturday, March 19 | B Following breakfast, we load our luggage and depart for the San José Airport to catch our connections back to Indianapolis. After collecting our luggage and clearing customs, motor coaches return us to Purdue University. * itinerary subject to change B

Please note only those donors whose giving to Purdue Musical Organizations totals $2,500 or more since January 1, 2014, will have the opportunity to sign up. An invitation to travel internationally with PMO is a benefit of giving for our PMO Club Director’s Circle and Benefactors Circle giving levels. Beginning at 9 a.m. EST on Monday, October 5 – Friday, October 9, those who are interested in coming along with PMO may register by completing a simple online form via the homepage of our website. Once you complete the online form, we will review your eligibility to join us by looking at your giving level and then contact you with additional details. In order to confirm your reservation, paperwork and a nonrefundable deposit of $500 for each person traveling will be due to our travel company by Monday, November 2, 2015. Additional details regarding the deposit will be shared when we contact you after receiving your online form. Depending on the number of guests who sign up during this one

week window, we may have a special young alumni giving rate to be eligible to attend. Should you have a question regarding your current PMO Club giving level or should you wish to increase your giving to PMO in order to be included in the Director’s Circle level, we will be happy to assist you. DEPOSIT AND CANCELLATION SCHEDULE: The price of the tour described is $3,433 per person based on double occupancy. Single occupancy is an additional $688. As outlined above in the registration process, a $500 deposit per person is required by Monday, November 2, 2015.
