The Year that was….2013 Excerpts from Year End Message: 2013 A Big Thank You for your continued commitment and all that you do to deliver on our Vision and Mission and live our Values. It has been a year of continued growth for us which, I Rakesh Kukreja am pleased to say, MD-Wananchi Business Service shows momentum and sustainability. We have met challenges head-on as a company and have grown stronger for our determination and perseverance.

Our company has made its mark in new territories – Zambia and Malawi and strengthened its position in the East African Market. Year 2013 was witness to two new companies taken over by iSAT Alldean Networks Limited and iSAT Africa Zambia Ltd. iSAT has set foot prints in Nigeria…which is at its infancy stage, activities within the company has just started picking up, known for its robust services, efficient network, prompt response to issues within the network, and a good value for money for services rendered. Our major clients are contractors within the federal government agencies such as NITDA, USPF oil companies such as Shell Petroleum and Mobil.

n the 24th of May 2013, an agreement was signed in Ngurdoto (Arusha, Tanzania) between Wananchi Group and the shareholders of Quick Edge Limited that paved the way for the formation of iSat Africa Zambia Limited (iAZL). The partnership will see iAZL growing rapidly and gaining a sizable portion of the market share in Zambia. Immediately after formation, iAZL invested in a VSAT hub in Lusaka, which is the first commercial hub operating in Zambia through which it intends to offer high availability data links for corporations and institutions such as in the banking sector, retail outlets, insurance forms and multi-branch offices operating real time applications such

as ERP and centralized accounting software. iAZL also invested in strengthening the wireless and fiber networks, which strengthens the resilience and performance of the network as well as adds new features like MPLS Layer 2 and Layer 3 connectivity, dynamic BGP routing and much more. This was successfully completed in 2013. The outlook for 2014 is looking very bright with extensive investment still planned in expansion of the network nationally as well as continual growth of new service availability. Within the first quarter of 2014, iAZLsigned up its first data customer over VSAT as well as the first broadcast relay service over VSAT. iAZL intends to address the relatively underserved niche market in these and other sectors.

Dennis Wambugu’s sons Ethenand Ndweiga and Owen Ng’ang’a who are celebrating their 5th and 7th birthdays in July and August respectively. It is going to be an interesting season of the World Cup for Ethen (left) who is in Std 2 and likes to be a great footballer when he grows up and Owen demonstrates his ambition by almost starting to go up the Electrical Pole to repair the power lines when there was power outage at our rural home.

CASE STUDY - EVENT COVERAGE DON BOSCO CATHOLIC CHURCH, NAIROBI Don Bosco Catholic Church is located at Upper Hill, Nairobi, Kenya. Along with Spiritual duties church is vastly involved in Social and charitable responsibilities. The Church has multiple Groups, small Christian communities and ministries to serve people. Challenges: The Church was part of Global prayer that was supposed to take place in Italy on 13th October 2013. The event from Italy was supposed to be broadcasted over the satellite to eleven countries (11) and transmit back the event from Church in respective countries back to Italy for a short duration where each Church was introducing themselves and getting involved in prayer. The major challenge for the Don Bosco Church was to arrange the professional satellite equipment, liaise with the

satellite space segment provider, and arrange for the event coverage in professional way within a short period of 3 weeks. Solution: • Alldean Networks Ltd. provided Don Bosco Church with a suitable, cost effective and resilient compete solution including satellite equipment, installation, commissioning, event coverage and technical expertise in Broadcasting . • Alldean implemented the solution ensuring the following 1. That there was a smooth transmission and simultaneous reception of the event from Italy; 2. Adhered strictly to the time slot for the transmission as per the time-table provided by Italy.

HUB, TELEPORT & SPACE SEGMENT

Alldean Networks has been providing the installation and maintenance of the VSAT equipment as well as the space segment for the network.

Currently, the Network is accommodating branches across Kenya, Uganda, Burundi, Tanzania, Rwanda and Southern Sudan.

KCB is the leading commercial banking group in East Africa, with over 200 branches and more than 370 ATMs in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda,Burundi and Southern Sudan. KCB required a VSAT network for both primary enterprises networking connectivity, as well as for back-up in branches that have existing terrestrial broadband connectivity. The VSAT network was to be integrated with KCB's communication network and provide immediate backup services to sites where the terrestrial infrastructure fails. The purpose of the VSAT network was to extend the Centralized Banking services, applications and voice over IP telephony to Branch Offices and ATM lobbies. KCB - Challenges: • Bank required a flexible IP based multi-point solution providing a secure star topology network where each remote site can communicate with HQ or with the others via the central hub • Bandwidth sharing for maximum cost effectiveness • Flexibility of configuration and QoS providing CIRs and prioritization of voice • One platform providing services for all the different remote types throughout the network. Solution Provided: • Alldean Networks designed and build KU band Teleport which is hosted at KCB premises in Nairobi. • Alldean Networks has provided the Bank with its own secure iDirect hub and catered for the remote sites’ connectivity requirement • The iDirect HUB maintains secure links throughout the network • Using iDirect’s state of the art Advanced Traffic Engineering & QoS, the Bank has ensured that it’s critical data and voice traffic is always there when needed.
