INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE DIPLOMA PROGRAMME International Baccalaureate is an International programme of elementary school, middle years school and high school education with the unified principles and requirements for curriculum for all schools which are members of this organization. These programmes include the best things which exist in the school education in the world. These programmes allow students to get high quality education which is in compliance with the European standards. At present around 3000 schools from 140 countries are members of International Baccalaureate Organization. International Baccalaureate Diploma Programmme (IB DP) is a unique programme for high school students which allows students, after passing the final exams, to receive an officially recognized diploma which gives students the right to continue their education in the best universities of the world. The model of Diploma Programme can be presented in the form of a circle with six subject groups which correspond to main areas of knowledge:  Studies in Language and Literature (Language A - the mother tongue)  Language Acquisition (Language B - a foreign language)  Individuals and Societies  Sciences  Mathematics  The Arts

The core elements of the model which ensure the holistic nature of the whole system are: Extended Essay in one of the subjects The Theory of Knowledge course (TOK) «Creativity, Action, Service” programme (CAS) DP students form their own curriculum, choosing one subject from each subject group. It is possible to study one additional subject from Groups 2 to 4. Completing Theory of Knowledge course, Extended essay and “Creativity, Action, Service” programme is obligatory for all the students. Three of the six subjects are studied at Higher level (no less than 240 hours of instruction in 2 years) and three subjects are studied at Standard level (no less than 150 hours of instruction in 2 years). The Theory of Knowledge course is studied during no less than 100 hours in 2 years. Students must spend no less than 150 hours in 2 years on “Creativity, Action, Service” programme.

The language of instruction, documentation and exams is English (except Language A (Mother Tongue) and Literature). Students are admitted to IB DP class on the basis of the results of the admission tests which are held in April. 1. The admission tests are taken in :  English (an interview with a teacher, writing an essay on one of the topics offered (of the student’s choice)/a test in Grammar);  Mathematics  Literature Moscow School 45 provides the IB DP students with the right to receive The Russian Certificate of Secondary Education. Preparation for the Final State Exams (the Russian National Curriculum) in Mathematics and the Russian language is compulsory and is included in the curriculum. If a student passes all the exams successfully, he/she gets two diplomas, IB diploma and the Russian Certificate of Secondary Education. At present Moscow School 45 offers the IB DP students the following subjects:

GROUP 1 Studies in Language and Literature (Language A - the mother tongue) LANGUAGE A: LITERATURE: studying the Russian Language and literature. Literature can be studied at Higher level and Standard level.

GROUP 2 Language Acquisition LANGUAGE B: ENGLISH All the IB DP students study English only at Higher level. LANGUAGE B FRENCH, SPANISH, GERMAN AND JAPANESE Moscow School 45 offers French, Spanish, German and Japanese at three levels:  Ab initio (for beginners) – for students who have not studied this language before  Standard Level (SL) – for students who have studied the language for 2-3 years and who have basic knowledge of the vocabulary and grammar  Higher Level (HL) – for students who have studied the language for 3-5 years and who wish to master their knowledge up to the B2 European standard which allows the students to continue their education at universities in other countries.

THE THEORY OF KNOWLEDGE COURSE “CREATIVITY, ACTION, SERVICE” PROGRAMME The information on each subject programme can be found in the appropriate sections on the School site. Universities The diploma of International Baccalaureate is recognized in more than 100 countries in the world. In the USA, Canada, Ireland, Great Britain, Belgium, France, Norway, Sweden, Australia, New Zealand and some other countries school graduates having DP IB diplomas are admitted to universities without admission exams. The only reservation is requirements to the grades in certain subjects and the minimum number of points in the IB diploma for admission.
