Introduction Overview The purpose of this document is to provide upgrade procedures to allow native Intellex 4.3 DVMS and LT units running Microsoft Windows XP to upgrade to Intellex 5.0 running Microsoft Windows 7.

Requirements Ensure that the following are in place before undertaking the upgrade.

Required for upgrading a standalone Intellex • A PS2/USB mouse and keyboard. • Intellex video data drives must be active in the storage. • Partition drive E must be active. • 2GB of RAM (if required, additional RAM is included in the Upgrade Kit) • Supported external graphics card (if required, a graphics card is included in the Upgrade Kit)

Running victor Unified Client with the upgraded Intellex • victor Unified Client must be running software version 4.1 or higher. Refer to the American Dynamics website for information on upgrading victor Unified Client.

Running Network Client with the upgraded Intellex • Network Client must be software version 5.01 or higher. Refer to the American Dynamics website for information on upgrading Network Client.

Running Policy Manager with the upgraded Intellex • Policy Manager must be software version 5.0.74.189 or higher. Refer to the American Dynamics website for information on upgrading Policy Manager.

Running Archive Manager with the upgraded Intellex • Archive Manager must be software version 5.01.41.77 or higher. Refer to the American Dynamics website for information on upgrading Policy Manager.

Hardware Upgrade Procedures Hardware Upgrade for Intellex DVMS (RDVUPG50DVMS Kit) Caution These upgrade procedures should only be carried out by trained and certified personnel. Before commencing with any of these hardware upgrades ensure that anti static precautions have been taken to avoid damage to the Intellex unit or the RAM. Follow this procedure to upgrade the RAM in your Intellex DVMS unit. This kit should be used with the following Intellex item codes; 0101-0381-xx & 0101-0382-xx, 0101-0446-xx, -0445-xx & -0448-03.

Procedure 2-1 Hardware Upgrade for Intellex DVMS using the RDVUPG50DVMS Kit Step

Action

1

Insert the Upgrade DVD in the DVD drive of the Intellex unit.

2

Shut down the Intellex system by selecting Utility then Shutdown.

3

Disconnect power from the back of the Intellex unit.

4

Remove the BNC panel from the Intellex unit: a

Release the screw highlighted in Figure 2-1 BNC Panel. If required, remove the cable connectors from the BNC Panel

b

Slide the BNC Panel up to disengage the brackets.

c

Remove the BNC Panel from the Intellex unit.

Remove the Intellex cover: a

Remove the screws highlighted in Figure 2-2 Intellex Cover.  Keep the screws in a safe place.

Slide the cover and lift to remove.

Adding the additional stick of RAM:

If the Intellex unit currently has 1 x 1GB RAM installed, perform the following: a

Release the white clips either side of the second blue DIMM 0, Channel B, this can be seen in Figure 2-3 DIMM Slots.

b

Place the 1GB of RAM into the DIMM slot ensuring that the notch in the RAM is aligned with the slot in the DIMM.

c

Press the RAM firmly down ensuring that the white clips click into place to secure the RAM.

If the Intellex unit currently has 2 x 512MB RAM installed, perform the following:

a

Remove the 2 x 512MB of RAM from the blue DIMM slots by releasing the white clips either side of the RAM and lifting the pieces of memory from the DIMM slots.

b

Place one piece of the 1GB of RAM into the blue DIMM 0, Channel A slot as seen in Figure 2-3 DIMM Slots. Ensure that the notch in the RAM is aligned with the slot in the DIMM.

c

Press the RAM firmly down ensuring that the white clips click into place to secure the RAM.

d

Repeat with the second piece of 1GB of RAM adding it to DIMM 0, Channel B slot.

Attach the Microsoft Windows 7 License Label to the inside of the chassis beside the existing Windows XP License Label which is to the right side of the power supply.

Replace the Intellex cover and secure with the screws.

Replace the BNC Panel on the Intellex unit: a

Align the keyhole cutouts on the BNC Panel with the corresponding brackets on the rear of the Intellex unit.

b

Attach the BNC Panel to the Intellex unit and slide down to lock into place.

Hardware Upgrade for Intellex DVMS (RDVUPG50DVMS-AS Kit) Caution These upgrade procedures should only be carried out by trained and certified personnel. The Intellex DVMS does not require a RAM or graphics card upgrade, however it is still necessary to remove the cover to attach the Windows 7 License label.

Procedure 3-1 Hardware Upgrade for Intellex DVMS using the RDVUPG50DVMS-AS Kit Step

Action

Insert the Upgrade DVD in the DVD drive of the Intellex unit.

Shut down the Intellex system by selecting Utility then Shutdown.

3

Disconnect power from the back of the Intellex unit.

Remove the BNC panel from the Intellex unit:

b

Slide the BNC Panel up to disengage the brackets.

Slide the cover and lift to remove.

Follow this procedure to upgrade the RAM and graphics card in your Intellex LT unit. This kit should be used with the following Intellex item codes; 0101-0447-xx.

Procedure 4-1 Hardware Upgrade for Intellex LT DG43GT using the RDVUPG50LT-GT Kit Step

Insert the Upgrade DVD in the DVD drive of the Intellex unit.

Shut down the Intellex system by selecting Utility then Shutdown.

Disconnect power from the back of the Intellex unit.

Press the RAM firmly down ensuring that the white clips click into place to secure the RAM.

Move the serial cable adapter: a

Unscrew the blanking plate in slot 1, the blanking plate is no longer required and can be disposed of accordingly. Keep the screw from the blanking plate.

b

Unscrew and remove the Serial cable adapter in slot 2.

c

Move the serial cable adapter to slot 1. Secure and screw into place as seen in Figure 4-2.

Install the graphics card: a

Insert the graphics card in the PCIe X 16 slot, ensuring that it is correctly seated.

b

Confirm that the cabling of the serial adapter is not tangled around the graphics card.

c

Secure and screw the graphics card into place as seen in Figure 4-3.

Attach the Microsoft Windows 7 License Label to the inside of the chassis beside the existing Windows XP License Label which is to the right side of the power supply.

Replace the Intellex cover and secure with the screws.

b

Attach the BNC Panel to the Intellex unit and slide down to lock into place.

Tighten the screw to secure.

Attach the VGA cable to the new graphics card as seen in Figure 4-4.

Follow this procedure to upgrade the RAM and graphics card in your Intellex LT unit. This kit should be used with the following Intellex item codes; 0101-0472-xx.

Procedure 5-1 Hardware Upgrade for Intellex using the RDVUPG50LT-AS Kit Step

Action

1

Insert the Upgrade DVD in the DVD drive of the Intellex unit.

Restart the Intellex unit.

Change BIOS to disable ACPI 2.0 Support: a

Press either F2 or DEL to access the BIOS.

b

Enter the BIOS password.

Note Contact Technical Support for the BIOS password c

Navigate to Power then select ACPI 2.0 Support.

d

Using ‘+’ or ‘-’ change the ACPI 2.0 Support status to Disabled.

e

Press F10 to save the changes and exit the BIOS settings. Intellex will re-boot.

Shut down the Intellex system by selecting Utility then Shutdown.

Disconnect power from the back of the Intellex unit

Install the graphics card: a

Insert the graphics card in the PCIe X 16 slot, ensuring that it is correctly seated.

Secure and screw the graphics card into place.

Upgrading Intellex 4.3 to 5.0 Standalone This procedure should be used when upgrading an Intellex unit from 4.3 to 5.0. Before starting this procedure ensure the following: • That the correct Hardware Upgrade Procedures has been completed. • Network settings on the Intellex have been recorded by following Procedure 10-1 Recording IP Addresses, Computer Name, Workgroup, Domain Name, and Time Zone (XP Platform) on page 29. • Network Client is running software version 5.01 or higher. Refer to the American Dynamics website for information on upgrading Network Client. • victor Unified Client must be running software version 4.1 or higher. Refer to the American Dynamics website for information on upgrading victor Unified Client.

Upgrade Intellex 4.3 to 5.0 Standalone Procedure 6-1 Upgrade Intellex 4.3 to 5.0 Standalone Step

Action

1

Ensure that the DVD has been inserted. If not insert the supplied Upgrade DVD in the DVD drive of your Intellex unit.

Restart the Intellex unit.

Change BIOS to boot from CD/DVD: a

Press either F2 or DEL to access the BIOS to change the BOOT DEVICE PRIOITY.

b

Enter the BIOS password.

Note Contact Technical Support for the BIOS password

Navigate to the Boot menu then Boot Device Priority.  This may vary depending on your motherboard.

d

Select CDROM as the First Boot Device and press Enter. The Hard Disk Drive should move to the Second Boot Device.

e

Press F10 to save the changes and exit the BIOS settings. Intellex will re-boot.

When Intellex restarts, Figure 6-1 Press any key prompt will be displayed. Press any key to boot from the Upgrade DVD and start the installation process.

The Windows is loading progress bar will be displayed as files are copied for the installation.

When the files have been copied, Figure 6-2 Intellex Upgrade Disk Menu will be displayed.

If an error message displays please contact American Dynamics Technical Support. Refer to Technical Support Contact Details for contact details. 7

Select Upgrade to perform the upgrade. The upgrade process will begin. The Information bar will update throughout the process to display the percentage complete and the time remaining.

When installation is complete the information bar will update and Figure 6-2 Intellex will reboot will be displayed.

The Intellex unit will reboot to Windows 7and Figure 6-3 Intellex Admin Logon will be displayed.

Enter the password for the Intellex Admin user. Note If at any stage during the final stages of the installation procedure you are prompted by Windows to Restart Now or Restart Later, select Restart Later.

Intellex will complete the setup procedure which will take a few minutes. During this process Figure 6-4 Drive Configuration will be displayed.

When the setup is complete the Intellex unit will reboot and the Intellex software will run.

Remove the Upgrade DVD and keep in a safe place.

Intellex Management Software Upgrade Upgrade Intellex 4.3 to 5.0 with Policy Manager This procedure should be used when upgrading an Intellex unit integrated with Policy Manager. Before starting this procedure ensure the following: • That the correct Hardware Upgrade Procedures has been completed. • Network settings on the Intellex have been recorded by following Procedure 10-1 Recording IP Addresses, Computer Name, Workgroup, Domain Name, and Time Zone (XP Platform) on page 29. • Policy Manager is running software version 5.0 or higher. Navigate to Intellex Archive Manager > Configuration > Intellex
