This upgrade procedure is to be used for existing versions of CardAccess 3000 ONLY. This document is not intended for users upgrading from ANY version of CardAccess 495. If you wish to upgrade from CA495 to CA3000, please refer to the following documents: ‘CA3000 Installation on a Server’ & ‘Paradox to SQL Data Conversion’ Security Key Update/Serial Number: All CardAccess installations being upgraded from versions prior to CA3000 Version 2.1 require a new security key (dongle) or new activation serial number. Each version requires a specific dongle. Be sure you have the appropriate dongle for your version before continuing the installation. If you ordered the serial number version and did not receive a serial number, please contact CA Customer Service at 631-842-9400 Photo-badging Update If you are currently using the SmartImage/Goddard (CA3000 V2.1 and prior) photo-badging package all of your personnel photos will transfer during upgrade. However, you must re-create your badge templates in the new Badging3000 photo-badging interface. All Goddard badging templates will be lost upon installation. Read-Me file The Read-Me document contains important information regarding known issues as well as recommended practices. This document file can be found by browsing the CA3000 CD and is located in the ‘Installation Manuals’ folder. Copy Databases As with any software program that will be overwriting information, we recommend making copies of both your Live and Archive databases to protect you against data loss . When copying these databases you must include both the Data (.MDF) and the Log (.LDF) files. By default, these files can be found in the C:Program files\Cardaccess3000\Database folder.

The list below contains the minimum panel firmware version numbers that are compatible with the latest versions of CardAccess 2.0 and higher software. Prior firmware versions have not been tested and have therefore been deemed unsupportable by Continental Instruments. These firmware versions are related to EPROM hardware ONLY and may not reflect the firmware version that will be displayed when viewing panel firmware in the Host Communication Driver. The Superterm, Turbo Superterm and Super-two panels may have a different firmware versions listed in Host driver since these panels are able to download firmware images from CA3000. Please refer to Section 2 of this document for instructions on how to access the Host Communication Driver to check your firmware versions.

You must inspect your hardware for compatibility. Failure to do so will result in undesirable system performance and/or problems.

If you find panel/panels that do not meet the minimum firmware requirements, please order the replacement EPROM’s from Continental Instruments before proceeding. Once the EPROMS are in your possession, please proceed with the software upgrade in Section 4 BEFORE installing the EPROM’s in your panels. Once you have completed Section 4, proceed to Section 5 for instructions on the proper way to upgrade you EPROM’s. Microterm(1 Door): EPROM Version: 21.04.44 or higher. Miniterm(2 Door): EPROM Version: 1.02.29 or higher. Smarterm(4 Door): EPROM Version: 05.43.40 or higher. Note: The Smarterm, Miniterm and Microterm do not support the ‘’Advanced Features’ of the CA3000 V2.x software. Superterm (4 door/8 door version): EPROM Version: 1.03.31 or higher for Repeat mode only. EPROM Version: 2.00.11 for Repeat and/or Multi-drop mode. Note: Older Superterm panels may not be equipped with enough internal RAM (256k min.) to support the newest version of firmware. Please refer to Section 2 of this document to see the instructions on how to access the Host Communication driver and verify you have the correct amount of memory. Turbo Superterm (4 door/8 door version): EPROM Version: 1.04.09 or higher for Repeat mode only. EPROM Version: 2.00.11 Repeat and/or Multi-drop mode. Super-Two(2 Door): EPROM Version: 2.00.11. Note: If you currently have a 2.00.08 Version EPROM in a Superterm, Turbo Superterm or Supertwo, it should be upgraded to a 2.00.11. The following pages contain important information regarding firmware version and feature compatibility.

To verify that your Superterm has the correct amount of installed memory, look under the Exp Mem column. If your panel has the correct amount of memory, a ‘96’ should appear in this box. If it shows a ‘0’ in the Exp Mem box, then you need to purchase expanded memory before installing this software or upgrading your firmware. Please contact you local sales representative for pricing and availability. Shutdown CardAccess and all related items.

Section 3

R e c o mm e n d e d P C Sp e cificati o n s The CardAccess 3000 program is capable of monitoring events from thousands of panels and readers for multiple locations as well as monitoring video and alarm points. Consequently, this program requires dedicated resources to perform properly. Therefore, Continental Instruments has put forth some guidelines that should be adhered to in order to insure proper performance. The PC specifications to follow have been broken down into Server systems and Workstation systems. The Server specifications are based on event processing and total workstations that will be connecting to the server at any given time. The Workstations specifications are based on what, if any, optional functions the Workstations will be performing while monitoring alerts and inputting data. Note: All advanced features supported by the CA3000 (i.e. Video Badging, DVR Interface etc...) should be performed on a Workstation. Failure to adhere to the guidelines will result in degraded performance and other system irregularities. PC specifications Server:

However, you must re-create your badge templates in the new Badging3000 photobadging interface. All Goddard badging templates will be lost upon installation.

Security Key Update/Serial Number: All CardAccess installations being upgraded from versions prior to CA3000 Version 2.1 require a new security key (dongle) or new activation serial number. Each version requires a specific dongle. Be sure you have the appropriate dongle for your version before continuing the installation. If you ordered the serial number version of CA3000 and did not receive a serial number, please contact CA Customer Service at 631-842-9400

At this point CardAccess should be up and running. EPROM firmware upgrade vs. download firmware upgrade The Superterm, Turbo Superterm & Super-Two panels are all capable of downloading firmware images. However, due to software improvements and feature additions in the CA3000 software, an EPROM change may be necessary in order to support these changes.
