Is the testing device additional control equipment for the ESD valve? − No, the PST control system is integrated into the solenoid valve

Is the ICO4-SIS a Smart Positioner? − No, it is an intelligent solenoid valve.

How does it move the ESD valve? − The valve is operated in exactly the same manner as it would during a demand. The coil of the solenoid is de-energised causing the ESD valve to start to close. When it has reached the desired PST percentage the coil is re-energised and the ESD valve re-opens. What parameters are measured? − The primary control parameter is actuator pressure but valve position and time are also measured.

Can the solenoid valve coil be replaced? − No, the ICO4-SIS is based on the highly reliable ICO4 valve that Maxseal has been making for over 30-years. These valves do not have replaceable coils as they extremely rarely suffer coil burnout due to the very low running temperature. How is the test controlled? − The test can be initiated locally with a HART communicator or remotely with a HART bus or wireless HART − The 2 generation product will have a control box with a test push button and pass/fail lamps

7. What is the asset life of the valve? − The valve must be replaced after 25-years

8. What is the service interval of the valve? − The valve must be serviced every 6-years. This consists of changing the seals within the valve. 9. Can the ICO4-SIS provide a valve position analogue output? − The ICO4-SIS provides a 4-20mA valve position output on the HART connection.

10. How does the system determine the Pass/Fail status of the ESD valve assembly? − On a basic level the pass/fail criteria is that the valve must move at least 50% of the target PST to be considered a pass (i.e. if the PST is set for 20% the valve must move at least 10%). − In addition to this there are higher level diagnostics and the details of these can be found in the operational manual

11. Does the system provide valve diagnostics? − In addition to the basic pass/fail there are enhanced diagnostics and a number of valve performance parameters are logged for each test that can be used for long term trend analysis

12. Does the ICO4-SIS perform self diagnostics? − Before every test the ICO4-SIS performs a comprehensive pre-test covering: instrument pressure, coil voltage, pressure transmitter & switching circuit 2

ICO4-SIS Frequently Asked Questions

2. Valve configurations 1. 2. 3. 4. 5.

6.

What port configurations are available? − The ICO4-SIS is only available in a 3/2 configuration in universal mode What pressure ranges are available? 10bar (145PSI) for pneumatic and 414bar (6000PSI) for hydraulic

What is the over pressure rating? − 20bar (290PSI) for pneumatic What port sizes are available? ¼”, ½” & ¾” for pneumatic

What Cv is the ICO4-SIS? − The Cvs for the various port sizes are as follows Pneumatic Port size ¼” ½” ¾” Cv 0.8 4.2 6.0 Can the valve have a manual reset option? − Yes, however this is provided using an electrical latching relay module that screws into one of the cable entries. The ICO4-SIS cannot use a mechanical manual reset as the solenoid valve would not return to the open position after a partial stroke test. If the operator is using a manual reset via the ESD logic the operation of the ICO4-SIS is not affected

7.

Can we supply additional cabinets / back plates / manifolds − Maxseal can provide all of the above when required

3. Interfacing 1.

2.

What protocols are available for remote operation? − Currently the only protocol available is HART 7. This facilitates local operation with a HART communicator, remote via a HART cable and wireless via wireless HART

How does the HART communicator connect without opening the cap on the valve

− The ICO4-SIS can be fitted with a Exd/Exia adaptor and the HART communicator then connects to the Exia side of this adaptor without the need for a hot permit or opening the cap. 3.

Do I need any special software to connect the ICO4-SIS to my DCS system − IMI will provide free of charge either a EDD or DTM file to install on the DCS system which will facilitate communications

3

ICO4-SIS Frequently Asked Questions

4.

5.

Which DCS systems will the ICO4-SIS work with − The ICO4-SIS has been successfully testing with Honeywell systems using the EDD file. IMI are also working with all the major DCS manufacturers to test compatibility. However it is not expected that there will be any issues working with any systems. − Certification & Environmental

What is the operating temperature range − -40 to +70oC (-40 to +158oF)

4. Functional Safety 1.

2.

3.

What is the dangerous and safe failure rates of the ICO4-SIS? − λD=5x10-9 & λS=107x10-9 failures per hour − The dangerous failure rate is unchanged from the standard ICO4S as the additional electronics do not affect the safety function.

What is the SIL rating

− The ICO4-SIS is SIL3 as a single device (HFT=0) if the PST is performed at least every 5months

What is the Diagnostic Coverage (DC)?

− The diagnostic coverage cannot be calculated without knowing the failure rates of the ESD valve and actuator to which the ICO4-SIS is attached. However due to the configuration the maximum possible DC is always provided 4.

5.

How often does the ESD valve have to be partially stroked? − The frequency of partial stroke testing must be determined by the operator. However IMI can assist with example calculations to show what benefits can be gained

Who SIL certified the valve

− The SIL certificate is issues by SIRA

5. Other 1.

What does is cost? − The ICO4-SIS will be very competitive against all the major competitors in the smart PST market. However the customer will make savings in the reduction in addition components such as QEVs, volume boosters, additional solenoid valves. Also the engineering required to design, install and commission the system is also greatly reduced

2.

3.

What is the lead time? − This is dependent on the quantity, lead time available during quotation

Can it be retro-fitted to existing Maxseal installations?

− The ICO4-SIS has exactly the same foot print as the ICO4S so retrofit is very simple 4

ICO4-SIS Frequently Asked Questions

4.

Can it be retrofitted to other systems − In many cases Maxseal can provide mounting brackets that will simplify the retrofit process

5.

Who is currently using the ICO4-SIS and is it a new product? − The ICO4-SIS is a new product, however with regard to the safety function this is unchanged and has been in use for over 30-years
