MIS/IA Student Software Download Instructions Program Overview and Eligibility ASM is a member of the Microsoft Academic Alliance, which enables students to download free copies of some Microsoft software if certain conditions are met: 1. The student must be registered in a concentration class in accounting information systems, information assurance, or management information systems. Eligible ASM classes include (MGMT 329, 330, 331, 336, 337, 437, 459, 461, 549, 630, 631, 632, 634, 636, 637, 639, 646, 647, 648, and 649. 2. The class must use at least one Microsoft product from the approved list (the list includes Microsoft Access, Project, SQL Server, Visio, and Visual Studio). Software can't be ordered or downloaded software until a student account is created by the program administrator. Course instructors provide Banner ID numbers to the program administrator who sets up the accounts. Shipment or Download? For most software, students can download the software for free or pay $20 per shipment to have software DVDs send to the address of their choice. Please note that most software downloads are quite large ranging from several hundred megabytes for software such as Microsoft Project and Visio to 2-5 gigabytes for software such as Visual Studio and Windows 7. Do not attempt to download software unless you have reliable high-speed connection. Wireless connections, especially in public places are not recommended for downloading. I suggest starting the download before you go to bed and letting it run overnight. Temporarily disable sleep mode on the computer to improve your chances of success.

Download Format Downloaded software is in the form of an ISO file - an image of a CD or DVD. To actually install the software from an ISO file you must either:  

Burn a CD or DVD from the ISO file using a package such as Roxio Easy Media Creator, then install the software from the physical CD/DVD. Mount the ISO file as a virtual CD or DVD drive, then install the software from the virtual CD/DVD.

Mounting an ISO file as virtual CD/DVD requires a special program (not part of the standard Windows installation). If you don't already have such a program, you can obtain a freeware program called Virtual CloneDrive from this link. If you don't already have a similar program, download and install Virtual CloneDrive before following the step-by-step instructions below. Access the Software Order/Download Site Use your UNM Banner ID number to register - not your UNM NetID or email address. Click this link.
