Changing Firmware on One or More Printers Introduction

In recognition of the need for multiple versions of firmware both for different gaming applications and normal enhancements, FutureLogic, Inc. has developed the Download Utility™ software to provide a secure yet simple means to reload printer firmware on the GEN2™ printer. This publication describes how to re-flash the printer firmware using the Download Utility software. Use this software to change the printer firmware on one or multiple printers connected using different communication ports.

Settings for Your Computer

This section identifies the recommended USB to serial adapters and Microsoft Windows versions to use with the Download Utility software.

USB to Serial Adapters

Most USB to serial adapters in the market will not work with the Download Utility software. As such, FutureLogic, Inc. recommends the following Quatech USB to serial adapters. For more information, contact Quatech at www.Quatech.com. For downloading to multiple ports: •

Quatech Multi-Port Adapter ESC-100D 8 RS232 Ports

Quatech Multi-Port Adapter QSP-100 4 RS232 Ports (PCMCIA)

Quatech Multi-Port Adapter QSU2-100 (USB to 4-RS232)

Quatech Single Port USB Adapter SSU2-100

Windows Versions

Use the following Microsoft Windows versions with the Download Utility software. •

For downloading to single ports using native RS232 port: Microsoft Windows 2000 or Windows XP.

For download to multiple ports using a Quatech adapter: Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional Only or Windows XP.
