No one quite knows the reason' It could be that his headwasn't screwedon quite right' It could be, perhaps,that his shoeswere too tight' But I think that the most likely reasonof all May have beenthat his heart was two sizestoo small' But, Whatever the reason, His heart or his shoes, He stood there on ChristmasEve, hating the Whos, Staring down from his cavewith a sour, Grinchy frown At thgwarm ligtrted windows below in their town' For he knew every Who down in Who-ville beneath Was busy now, hanginga mistleoewreath' "And they're hangingtheir stockings!" he snarledwith a sneer. "Tomorrow is Christmas!It's practicallyhere!" Then he growled, with his grinch fingers nervouslydrumming, "I MUST find a way to keep Ckistmas from coming!" He turned around fast, and he saw a small Whol Little Cindy-Lou Who, who was not more than two' The Grinch had been caught by this little Who daughter Who'd got out of bed for a cup of cold water. She staredat the Grinch and said, "Santy Claus,why, "Why are you taking our Christmastree? WIIY?" But, you know, that old Grinch was so smart and so slick He thought up a lie, and he thought it up quick! "Why, my sweetlittle tot," the fake Santy Claus lied, "There'sa light on this tree that won't light on one side. "So I'm taking it hometo my workshop,my dear.
