Credits required to complete your Grade 12 diploma The number of credits you require for Grade 12 depends on your age, your past education and employment, and other prior learning experiences, as well as your current academic functioning level. An Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) requires 30 secondary school credits (including some mandatory credits). If you began secondary school prior to 1982, you may be eligible for the Secondary School Graduation Diploma (SSGD), which requires 27 credits.

Maturity Credits Students who began high school in Ontario prior to September, 1999 may be eligible for maturity credits. You may be eligible for additional high school credits through maturity allowance and equivalent education acquired through previous work experience. Some courses may be mandatory depending on past courses taken and your current academic functioning level. Adults may be granted a maximum of 12 maturity credits, based on their prior learning experiences. Students must complete a minimum of 4 senior credits as an adult to receive the maturity credits. The number of credits you will require is determined primarily by your functioning level.

Statement of Standing A written assessment of standing will be granted to adult students on request, after the completion of one full secondary school credit with The Learning Enterprise. Recommendations from instructors may be required. To receive a Letter of Standing, send or bring proof of education and age to The Learning Enterprise office at 40 Amelia St., Orangeville.

Assessment Our instructors will do some assessment in specific areas to make sure you are placed in the correct course, or if you are unsure what level you are functioning at. A variety of assessment tools are used, depending on your background and the courses you are interested in.

Choose the Program that Best Fits Your Schedule Independent Study Program The Independent Study Program is offered to students who cannot attend regular day classes. We strongly recommend whenever possible that students attend the day classes with the teacher available for direct instruction. The Independent Study Program is available to adult students over the age of 18 who have been out of school for at least one year. Students who do not meet this criteria will be directed to the day classes. Please note the Independent Study courses are NOT correspondence courses. There is a mandatory attendance requirement and students will be asked to commit to regularly scheduled meetings with their instructor to be held during Period 3 (12noon-1:00pm) . The instructor will meet with the student to design an individual schedule that they can commit to. Independent Study students will complete the majority of the course work at home and will be required to meet with their instructor a minimum of ten times throughout the semester for which they are registered (1st Semester: September-January or 2nd Semester: February-June).
