Tonawanda Fire Department - Tonawanda, NY Tonawanda is a city of approximately 75,000 adjoining Buffalo. The fire department researched a supplier for a highly maneuverable and agile rescue vehicle that was capable of transporting the vast amount of equipment anywhere in the city, both in the industrial and residential sectors. They settle on Hackney due to its drop/pinch frame for increased storage capacity within a minimal wheelbase requirement. HEAVY RESCUE Model DFC1173R A drop-down step in the compartment permits easy and safe access to equipment stored in the upper reaches. Three slideout toolboards accommodate long tools and airshores. A two-way slide tray in the wheelhouse compartment allows access to equipment such as the stokes baskets and SKED from either side of the body. The upper transverse tunnels accommodate long backboards. The hinged doors in the lower rear compartment keeps the cribbing secured. Note the slide-out Speedi-Dry hopper aft of the rear wheels that holds two bags of granular for quick dispensing.

The winter road salt plays havoc with PTO generators, so Tonawanda really likes the fact that the Hackney drop/pinch frame affords the generator mounting inside the compartment, not beneath the truck, as shown in the front compartment. Medical gear is isolated in an enclosed compartment above the generator. Fire extinguishers and a spare SCBA are quickly accessible on the slide-out tray. The rear extrication tool compartment is 73” high x 42” deep with pre-connected hydraulic hose reel. The tilt trays is set up for chain saws and carbide saw.
