Advanced Fire Fighting SIMULATOR

Simulator For SHIPBOARD AFF TRAINING IN ACCORDANCE WITH STCW REQUIREMENTS

“FOLLOWING OUR EXPERIENCE WITH THE RESCUESIM AFF SIMULATOR, WE CAN SAFELY SAY THAT IT PROVIDES EXCELLENT ADDED VALUE FOR THE TRAINING OF CREWS FOR ONBOARD INCIDENTS.”

Jaco Knies Safety & security instructor Nova Contract, member of Maritime Academy Holland

Virtual training Real-life incident training is an excellent way to develop competences, but is often time-consuming and very expensive. RescueSim is an incident command simulator that prepares professionals for incidents by letting them train in a realistic virtual environment, without the dangers, costs and time associated with traditional training.

The benefits of virtual incident command training

• Improve operational preparedness of your crew • Train whenever, wherever and as often as you like without the need for extensive logistics & material • Portable simulator setup that allows training on board of vessels • Avoid high training costs and time constraints that come with practical training • Learn new skills in a safe and controlled environment • E xercise communication skills between the ship bridge and fire teams • Train communication with other vessels and different emergency services onshore and offshore • Realistic 3D training environments including vessel interiors and exteriors, company specific or generic • Complete control and flexibility for the instructor before & during scenarios • Logging of all actions and decisions for debriefing

Rescue

Rescuesim ADVANCED fire fighting developed in close cooperation with the maritime industry, VSTEP introduces a training MODULE FOR its RESCUESIM simulator aimed at shipboard firefighting and shipboard incidents. The AFF simulator allows participants to experience and train for any incident on board a vessel first-hand. The Rescuesim aff simulator is builT to FULLY support and comply to the STCW Advanced Fire Fighting courses (AFF). The rescueSim advanced Fire Fighting Simulator includes functionality, environments, emergency equipment and objects that are essential and common to specific types of shipboard incidents. The simulator can be used as a standalone simulator or can be linked with VSTEP’s NAUTIS Ship bridge simulators for additional incident command training of ship bridge personnel.

A Safe environment to train real emergencies The RescueSim Advanced Fire Fighting Simulator allows emergency crews to experience incidents on board of ships as they would in real-life. In the simulator, the participants assess the situation and determine the best response strategy. They then implement it and immediately observe the consequences of their decisions in real-time in the simulator. The simulator allows users to try out different response strategies for an incident in a safe, controlled environment. A simulator instructor is in full control during the training and can influence the scenario for the participant in the simulator during the exercise. Instructors can easily build any on board incident scenario using the intuitive toolbox. For after action debriefing, a detailed log of all actions allows evaluation and assessment after the exercise.

THE VIRTUAL WORLD the Rescuesim AFF Simulator allows training in a realistic virtual ship environment. The interior and exterior of each vessel is recreated in the simulator. The ships are fully accessible, with users able to virtually explore the ship. The environment is interactive and contains SPECIFIC features that are essential for stcw compliant Advanced Fire Fighting Training (EXAMPLES SHOWN BELOW):

• Watertight Doors

plan o be arei delivered ed with A0 • FThee3D environments comprehensive vessel fire plan

• A virtual touch panel with emergency controls and a different panel to be placed in the control room

• Fire Flaps and Fire Doors

SMALL SIZE, BIG RESULTS Thanks to its small form factor, the rescuesim aff simulator can be used almost anywhere and can be setup According to your training requirements and team size. A Typical Setup includes an instructor station and TRAINING STATIONs FOR THE on-scene commander and fIRE TEAM LEADERs. It is also possible to inteRface with vstep’s nautis full mission bridge simulators, allowing additional training of ship bridge personnel during on board incidents and interaction with the teams in the rescuesim aff simulator.

Typical simulator setup shown below, including instructor station and training stations for on-scene commander and fire team leaders, with optional interface to a full mission bridge simulator:

INTERFACE (OPTIONAL) Real-time interfacing with the NAUTIS FMB simulators is possible. Specific AFF-related touch panels are added to the Ship Bridge simulator.

THE INSTRUCTOR STATION The Instructor station is the heart of the simulator and gives the instructor complete control during training sessions. It allows the instructor to create any possible incident in the simulator as well as alter parameters in real-time during an exercise. It uses an intuitive user friendly drag-and-drop interface and also records and stores training sessions for after action debriefing.

Excellent training and support are an important part of operating a simulator. As part of simulator delivery, VSTEP provides basic and advanced train-the-trainer courses for each customer, training you in simulator operation and day-to-day use. Training is hands-on and provided by experienced VSTEP engineers. After successful training, an official Instructor & Maintenance Certificate is issued to the customer. •

The SIMULATOR INSTRUCTOR TRAINING Contains: - Creation of exercises using the instructor toolbox - Initiate/restart an exercise - Controlling avatars during an exercise - Introduce time based triggers, special events and advanced RescueSim functionalities - Change the operating environment during an exercise based on student response, actions and decisions - Effective communication with the trainees - Exercise recording and playback/debriefing - Setting up a scoring or grading system to assess student performance

THE AFF INSTRUCTORS’ OPINIONS: • ” It allows us to practice the unpracticable! Scenarios that are hard, even impossible to train in real life can be practiced and trained in the simulator!” • ”Training is about repeating, repeating, repeating and improving. The simulator allows us to do just that, without disturbing our daily operations!” • ”It’s not a replacement for practical training, but it sure is a good addition to it!” • ”The crew even uses the 3D interior and exterior of the ships in the simulator to familiarize themselves with a specific type of vessel.” • ”The simulator makes training much more accessible. We notice the crew are encouraged and eager to train with it and improve their response rate in case of a real emergency!” • ”I like that it’s portable and easy to set-up. I never imagined to find a simulator on board of our ship, let alone being able to train for incidents in a simulator during a long ocean transit!” • “We train teamwork, comms and situational awareness in the simulator, but as a former captain, what I really like is that by linking it to a Full Mission Bridge Simulator, we can also train GMDSS, navigation and communications with other vessels during incidents!”

Above comments were gathered from professional STCW AFF Instructors during customer testimonials, training and pilot sessions with the VSTEP RescueSim AFF simulator.
