Day 3 - Tue, Oct 7 ARRIVAL DAY Taipei – Okinawa 6:00 AM Arrive at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport. Exit the plane and wait for your Tour Escort to guide you to the transfer for our flight to Okinawa. 8:15 AM Depart for Okinawa on China Airlines CI #120. Light snack served on the flight. 10:45 AM Arrive at Okinawa Naha International Airport and proceed through immigration procedures. Claim your baggage and go through Customs inspections. Exit the baggage claim area and wait for your Tour Escort. We’ll make a stop at Naminoue Shrine and the Tsushima Maru museum on the way to our Naha hotel. PM Naminoue Shrine: literally "Above the Waves Shrine", is the primary Shinto shrine in Okinawa prefecture. It sits atop a high bluff, overlooking Naminoue Beach and the ocean.Originally a sacred space of the native Ryukyuan religion, due to its location and natural beauty, it was dedicated to nirai kanai, the mythical source of all life, and to the sea. It later came to be known as Hana gusuku and Nanminsan, and was incorporated into the Japanese system of Shinto shrines. Memorial) during World War II, while carrying hundreds of schoolchildren from Okinawa to Kagoshima. On August 22, 1944, between 10:00 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. local time, Bowfin attacked the convoy in which the Tsushima Maru was sailing and sank her, close to the island of Akusekijima. 1,484 civilians, including 767 schoolchildren were killed. 59 children survived the sinking. HISTORIC SITES / NAHA CITY TOUR B Breakfast at the hotel. Visit the Okinawa Prefectural Government. Leave for City Tour which includes three of nine World Heritage sites* and more. The World Heritage sites are recognized by UNESCO United Nations. “World heritage sites are treasures from the peoples of long ago passed down to us living today…Places that everyone, not only the people of Okinawa, feel are “great and important”.” (Naha City Board of Education) *Shuri Castle: Home of the Ryukyu King and the political, economic and cultural center of the Ryukyu Islands until 1879, when Okinawa became a prefecture of Japan. We will take a group photo here. *Sonohyan Utaki: A sacred grove (shrine) of the Royal Court *Tamaudun: Royal Mausoleum Bingata Shop- See the production floor where Bingata, popular among the former elites of Shuri and Naha, is made. Lunch on your own at San-A Department Store. Okinawa Prefectural Musuem: Opened in November 2007, this museum features the rich, unique nature, history and culture characteristic of this prefecture. Chuko Awamori Distillery: the only maker in Okinawa that ages Awamori in its own homemade jars. Developed after ten years of Page 2

research and training, the distillery president himself worked on the potter's wheel, splendidly harmonizing the nurturing of aged liquor through these unique earthenware jars. SOUTHERN TOUR B, L Breakfast at the Hotel. Depart Hotel. Gyokusendo Cultural Park: One of the largest underground stalactite caves in the Far East. Within the park is a snake museum, an Okinawan garden, Sanshin making, glass making, souvenir shops, restaurants, eisa (Okinawan taiko) and more. Eisa Dance. Lunch at the Gyokusendo Restaurant. You can also visit the Snake Museum near the exit of the Park if you can be back on the bus by 12:15PM. Depart for Mabuni Hill. Okinawa Peace Memorial Park: The site of the largest war memorial in Okinawa. We will visit the following sites located in this park:  Okinawan Peace Memorial Hall: Site of the world’s largest tsuikin (lacquer) statue. Before entering the hall we will make a stop at the butterfly garden.  Mabuni Hill: We will take the mini-bus to the top of Mabuni Hill. This is where General Ushijima and his aide committed suicide.  Cornerstone of Peace (Heiwa no Ishiji): Here you can view the names of over 230,000 casualties of war, individually inscribed in the granite walls.  Okinawan Peace Memorial Museum: Exhibits are divided into five separate areas that cover the history of Okinawa leading up to WWII, the Battle of Okinawa, and post-war Okinawa under U.S. Military occupation. Depart the Okinawa Peace Memorial Park for continuation of the Southern Tour. Himeyuri No To (Monument): This monument was erected to console the memories of 219 high-school nurse trainee girls and their 18 teachers who perished during the Battle of Okinawa. Himeyuri Peace Museum: Exhibits of photographs of the many victims, their personal effects, model reconstruction of the appalling conditions, and testimonies from survivors are on display. Former Japanese Naval Headquarters: Located in Tomigusuku, the Okinawa District Headquarters of the Japanese Navy was in this Page 3

underground shelter during WWII. When defeat became inevitable, Admiral Minoru Ohta and other officers committed suicide here. The interior of the shelter has been kept as it was at that time. Lunch and dinner on your own. 2:00 PM  Naha Matsuri Parade: The parade begins at the top of Kokusai Doori and ends in front of Ryubo Department Store. Onoyama Park is the site of festival activities and a bazaar, and fireworks in the evening. Evening  Enjoy the festival activities at Onoyama Park featuring entertainment, a bazaar and fireworks in the evening. This day is free for you to visit family & friends, visit nearby tourist attractions, or go shopping at the many stores along Kokusai Doori or in Heiwa Doori. Don’t forget to see the Hatagashira Parade from 11:30 AM on Kokusai Doori and the Tsunahiki in the afternoon on Highway 58. 2:30 PM  Naha Matsuri Tsunahiki Contest: This second day of the Naha Matsuri will begin and end at the site of the Tsunahiki contest on Highway 58. The Naha Tsunahiki is the largest tugo-war in the world and it uses the largest rope in the world as well. Come early so you can see how they connect the two pieces of rope. Don’t miss the ritual when the two lords challenge each other. NORTHERN TOUR DAY 1 B, L, D Breakfast at the Hotel. Bring all of your luggage and meet in the lobby for check-out. Depart and drive along the West coast of Okinawa by Urasoe, Ginowan, Chatan, Kadena and Yomitan to Takoyama Park (Ryukyu Mura). In Yomitan we will pass through Yachimun no Sato (Village of Potters). Yachimun no Sato is a cooperative village of artisans located in Yomitan. The village centers around three large kilns, though more than 40 studios and smaller kilns are scattered throughout the area. AM Arrive at Takoyama Park. Takoyama Park (Ryukyu Village) – This park depicts life in pre-war Okinawa. The village houses are over one hundred years old. Ancient festivals are recreated here. Here we get a private performance of traditional Okinawan music and dance while sipping hot tea and snacking on andagi. PM Depart for lunch at Gala Aoiumi. After lunch enjoy snacking on salt ice cream and a hands-on experience making natural sea salt. PM Experience traditional Okinawan Ryukyu glass making at Glass House in Forest. NORTHERN TOUR DAY 2 B, L, D Breakfast at the Hotel. Depart for our full day at Ocean EXPO Park. Ocean EXPO Park (Okinawa Commemorative National Park): Originally built for the 1975 Ocean EXPO, this is the largest theme park in Okinawa. Here we will visit the Churaumi Aquarium, the Tropical Dream Center, a traditional Okinawan village, and the Oceanic Cultural Museum.  Churaumi (Beautiful Sea) Aquarium: The world’s first aquarium designed to raise multiple whale sharks and mantas. The aquarium tank acrylic panels are some of the world's largest. Dolphin Show. Lunch at Ocean Expo Park or similar  Tropical Dream Center: More than 2,000 kinds of orchids and various tropical and subtropical flowers and fruit trees decorate this uniquely built botanical paradise. An observation deck is also located here. Relax in an easygoing atmosphere and dreamy ambiance surrounded by the fragrance of orchids.  Traditional Okinawan Village: take a look at traditional Okinawan housing and working culture set amongst a large Page 5

variety of tropical plants and flowers. PM  Oceanic Cultural Museum: Nearly 1,000 items are displayed to introduce the oceanic cultures of Melanesia, Polynesia, Micronesia, S.E. Asia, and Japan. NORTHERN TOUR DAY 3 B, L, D Breakfast at the Hotel. Checkout time. Please bring your luggage to the lobby of the hotel. *Nakijin Castle & Museum: A World Heritage Site. The second largest castle in Okinawa. It was the castle of the northern Hokuzan Kingdom. The Lord of Hokuzan controlled Northern Okinawa until he was defeated by the Lord of Chuzan (Shuri) in 1416. AM Visit Orion Beer Factory in Nago. Learn about how beer is brewed and then sample free Orion beer, soft drinks, and otsumami. PM Lunch at Okashigoten. Located in the east coast area of Onna village, Okashigoten was built in the image of the main palace of Shuri castle, and uses only Okinawan ingredients, such as purple sweet potatoes and local brown sugar. Inside the store you can watch the highly skilled chefs making Japanese sweets and pastries through the window. PM Arrive back at hotel in Naha.
