Dear Colleagues, Dancers and Parents. Herzlich Willkommen, Bienvenue, Benvenuto, Bienvenido, Serdecznie państwa witamy, , Welcome, Cead míle failthe, Hjärtligt välkomna, Velkommen The “Gabriell School of Traditional Irish Dance” and its network partner want to extend a warm welcome to you to Germany and to our second Hamburg Open Feis. We are more than delighted to have the “Stadteilbüro Dulsberg” as our co-operation partner for the whole weekend. The Kulturhof in Wandsbek offers us such a nice facility, to let us run two floors. And for the Championship a huge Stage. Wandsbek contains a great infrastructure and you can find a big shopping mall only 2 tube stations (5 Minutes) away. Soft drinks, tea, coffee and little snacks will sold in the Café throughout the weekend. We will not only hold Adult and Open Premiere Championships on Saturday but also will offer two new Competitions for Saturday evening. See Rule No. 31 and 33. Our selected Hotels give you the best possibility for a nice and relaxing stay. The multi – cultural City of Hamburg provides attractions for young and old. Combine your travel to the Feis with a few days off and visit the Speicherstadt with its fantastic “Miniatur – Wunderland” (http://www.miniatur-wunderland.de), the famous Hagenbeck Zoo. Enjoy a boat trip through the Harbour Area or just see one of the numerous Musicals shown in Hamburg or visit the “Hamburg Dungeon”. Competitors from outside of Mainland Europe or non CLRG schools/organisations can register with an extra 5.00 Euro registration fee on the day of the competition(s). Rialacha Na Feise - Feis Rules 1.

The Feis will run in accordance with the Rules on An Coimisiun le Rinci Gaelacha.

This Feis is open to persons who are registered as teachers in any category with An Coimisiun and to registered Ceili Clubs. It is also open to persons who are not affiliated to An Coimisiun. As a special concession An Coimisiun will give special accreditation to such person for the duration of the Feis. Persons seeking such accreditation must apply directly to the Feis Organiser (CLRG rule 2012, valid from September 2012 to September 2014)

The lodgment of an entry will be taken to mean that a teacher and their pupils understand these rules and undertake to abide by them.

4.

No refunds will be made.

5.

Only Feis officials may approach the adjudicator during competition sessions.

6.

Order and quiet must be kept in the hall, particularly while competitors are dancing.

7.

Food and drink must not be consumed in the hall, neither is smoking permitted.

8.

Provided that dancers are not disturbed by flashlights or the like, photography and/or video recording is permitted in case of Beginners / Primary competitions and during ALL award ceremonies (CRLG Ruling Dec.2011). In all other Competitions this is reserved to the official Feis Photographer on site.

9.

Hamburg Feis organisers cannot accept any liability for injuries sustained or for the loss of, or damage to property or belongings which may occur during the Hamburg Feis.

10.

Objections must be lodged in writing within one hour of the announcement of the result of a competition accompanied by a fee of 40 Euro, which will be refund if the objection is upheld.

11.

Age will be taken on 1st January 2013 (whatever age you turn this year in 2013 you dance under that age e.g. Date of Birth is 16 April 2003, you dance Under 10 all year long). Evidence of registration may be requested; therefore dancers should have a valid ID with them in the event of a query as to their age.

12.

A panel of 2 Adjudicators will judge the Championships. The adjudicator’s decision is final

13.

Competitors must be in costume and ready to dance 30 minutes before their competitions are scheduled to start.

14.

In all ages in Bun and Tús competitions female dancer may only wear class costumes or skirt (no longer than 4 inch above knee) and long sleeve blouse. For the sake of modesty and in the interest of safety to young people i.e. dancers will not permitted to walk around the Feis scantily dressed. Effective from 23rd Oct 2005, make-up will not be permitted for any dancer in the first two grades up to and including the Under 12 age group Worldwide. The dress code in accordance with An Coimisiun rules will be strictly observed. Failure in comply with rule 14. will lead to disqualification (An Comisiun Leinster rule).

15.

Beginners Grade competitions are confined to dancers who have never won 1st, 2nd or 3rd (in refer to rule No.18) prize in any competition for that particular dance. In Beginner Grade competitions only basic steps may be performed. Other movements are banned and lead to disqualification!

16.

Primary Grade competitions are confined to dancers who have never won 1st or 2nd (in refer of rule No.19) prize for that particular dance other than Beginners Grade. Movements such as rocks, cross keys, butterflies, toe stands, double clicks etc. other than in Trad. Set Dances are not allowed and usage will lead to no placing (An Comisiun Leinster rule).

17.

Intermediate Grade competitions are open to all dancers who have not previously won first prize for that particular dance in Intermediate or Open Grade under the same or higher age limits. If a dancer from Mainland Europe wins in Intermediate, they must advance into Open for the remainder of that calendar year. If they do not win in Open, they may return to Intermediate at the beginning of the next calendar year (RTME ruling, Sept. 2007).

18.

If a Beginners competition has 6 competitors or more, the first 2 places advance to the next grade regardless of ties. If a Beginner competition has 11 competitors or more, the first 3 places advance to the next grade regardless of ties.

19.

If a Primary competition has 6 or more dancers, the first places advance to the next grade. If a Primary competition has 11 or more dancers, the first and second places advance to next grade, regardless of ties (RTME ruling 2011)

20.

Where there are 5 dancers or less for Beginners, Primary and Intermediate competitions, the rule will not affect their grading.

21.

Adult Championships are open to Intermediate dancer who have never won a 1st, 2nd or 3rd place in a Championship and to dancers not participating in a full Open Championship at the same Feis. Dancers will be required to dance 32 bars of Music in the Reel (Gents, Ladies) or Slip Jig (Ladies) in the Light round, Heavy Jig or Hornpipe in the Heavy round and a Traditional Set or Non- Traditional Set. If there are more than 9 dancers in this competition, it will go to recall for the Set Dances. Please note that this Championship has been created for dancers who started Irish Dance as ADULTS.

22.

Primary Trophy competitions will be a choice of Heavy or Light dance in Beginners/Primary level that a dancer has not won. Dancers will dance 16 bars alone down the line bin their chosen dance. The Reel is meant as a Softshoe Dance. For Treble Reels there is a special trophy dance offered.

23.

Premier Championships will be judged as two solos and an overall Championship. Dancers have a choice of heavy shoe, choice of light shoe for the girls and Reel for the boys. Dancers who wish to compete in the Open Solo competitions may do so; they do NOT have to dance a set dance. If they do not dance a set dance, they will be excluded from the championship result, but they will be judged in the solo rounds. Heavy Shoe will be danced first. If there are more than 5 dancers in this competition, it will go for a recall. Recall will be a Non- Traditional Set.

24.

Traditional Set Dance competitions are a choice out of 8 Traditional Set Dances: St. Patrick’s Day, Blackbird, Job of Journeywork, Garden of Daisies, King of the Fairies,

White blanket, 3 Sea Captains and Jockey to the Fair. If you win a first place in any traditional set dance competition you move on the next level in all 8 Traditional Set Dances. 25.

Traditional Set Dances can only be performed in the Traditional Set Dance competition, in the Adult Championship and in the U 14 Open Championship.

26.

For all Beginners, Primary and Intermediate competitions the 32 bar method will be applied. However, in the case of low entries the Feis will use the “bell method”. All Open Championship dancers will be required to dance 48 bars in the Reel and Heavy Jig and 40 bars in the Hornpipe and Slip Jig. Two and Three Hands are danced to 40 bars of music. Ceili dances are danced up and including the first Figure Top couple. Figure dances are subject to organizers rule.

27.

Competitions No. 3, 4 and 38 are special Trophies for those dancers who are in or just out of their basic class (Grundkurs) and are able to dance their skips and/or threes and sidestep. First places will not move up! For these competitions and for the U8 Beginners Competition we will use only 16 bars down the line.

28.

The Treble Reel Trophy is a FREE STYLE – therefore use of hands and non traditional dance wear are permitted

30.

Team dances (four hands and upward) must be performed in accordance with the Coimisiún handbook “Ar Rinci Foirne”.

31.

Each Team for the “Free Style Show” Competition must consist not fewer than 6 and not more than 20 dancers. The dances may portray Irish themes, but it's not necessary. Music and Costumes are “free style”; means must not be Irish or Traditional. Footwork and Dance Shoes MUST be Irish. A free style show dance should not exceed 8:00 Minutes duration from beginning to end. All teams will be strictly timed and for every 10 seconds a dance continue after 8:00 Minutes 10 competitions points will be reduced from the team’s overall points.

32.

Teachers may include a number of dancers over their age group not exceeding 25% for a Ceili team or 50% for a 2/3 Hand / Figure(Show) Team without prior permission but must inform the organiser in writing and furnish the names of the dancer.

33.

In the Hand Dance Trophy dancer will sit at stage on chairs and like in the Primary /Intermediate Trophy perform their favourite soft- or hardshoe dance 16 bars down the line, but only by hands.

34.

Special Trophies (Traditional Sets, Primary) may be retained by the winners, Treble Reel and Championship trophies may also be retained by the winners unless the time table marks the competition as Perpetual Trophy Competitions. In this case Trophies may

personalised and returned to the Feis organizer with 10 month. 35. 36.

Within the limits specified in the Rules of An Comisiún the organizers may at their discretion cancel competitions with insufficient entries. The Organisers reserve the right to combine competitions with low numbers or change running order to enable smooth running of the event. Any changes will be notified to every teacher with competitors 1 week prior to the event.

37.

By entering in competitions, dancers (and their legal representative, in case of minors) consent to their names being stated in the Feis results and in public internet archives’ of Feisbase or any other Feis entry/result system.

38.

Motorists using the parking area do so at their own risk.
