President's Message July 2011 Ready, Set, Festival!! It's July and the weather is finally warming up- time for the Festival. Christy and Russ have done an OUTSTANDING job again- lining up even more entertainment and family activities, & additional food vendors. The street plan is done and the vendors are happy. Now comes the fun part- rolling out the Festival to the community! If you have not already signed up to help- please contact Christy pronto, to see what's left to do. Don't forget that if you volunteer 4 hours, you get a free tee shirt- and it looks like a great design this year. Without our volunteers, we could never have a successful Festival. You are all critical to having a safe, fun Festival. Safe means that we all are extra careful of ourselves (how we move things, etc), as well as watching out for tripping hazards, etc, for the visiting public. Remember- we carry liability insurance for the Festival, but no insurance will pay for accidents injuring volunteers- so please ask for help when you need it. We never want anyone to take on too much! Fun means just that- have fun- get to know other PAL members, talk to people, share your love of art, & make sure to take time to walk through the Festival- there is some wonderful art and craft out there. If you have ever thought about having your own booth someday- it's great to look and get ideas. Speaking of art booths- Steve Pearce is going to head up the PAL ART BOOTH (Hooray!!). Watch for information on requirements for participating in that. It's a wonderful opportunity to sell some of your art and get your name out there! Another way to get your name and art out there is to demo at the PAL Plein Air booth. I will bring something for you to paint- or bring your own photo. We sure had fun with that last year- contact me to schedule a time so that we always have some artists working during the Festival. P.S. Keep thinking about who will be President next year- I am happy to do a one on one training with you, and we would really want your to sit in on the September board meeting. We can't have Peninsula Art League if we don't have volunteers come forward to help keep it running!

Body Image Art/Life Drawing with Purpose We are having a Life Drawing class every Monday night from 7-9 that hosts 10 people. June 20th is the first scheduled Monday through August 15th. $25.00 per class—at the Art Barn in Key Center. Dana @ hotmail.com or [email protected] Sept 24, 2011 The Tilbury Event Western/Victorian Tableau vivant (plural: tableaux vivants) is French for "living picture." The term describes a striking group of suitably costumed actors or artist's models, carefully posed and often theatrically lit. Throughout the duration of the display, the people shown do not speak or move. The approach thus marries the art forms of the stage with those of painting and photography. This fall we're hosting our Fourth Bi-Annual Tableaux Vivant event in Kitsap County. Artists and photographers are invited to register for this event. The cost is $65 for the day and the day begins at 9:00 AM, ending at dusk. A light lunch; coffee & tea provided. Our theme this time is "Western-Victorian" and scenes with models will be staged throughout the day in addition to several still life set ups. This is a perfect time to gather reference material and do some plein air painting as well. There is never a moment without viewing a great scene. The models willing to pose anyway you ask...so don't be shy. Tips are appreciated. Register before August 24th and get $5 off the registration fee. Contact Dianne Gardner [email protected] for more info or visit http:// tilburycamp.webs.com/events.htm to registerwith PayPal.
