The 39 Days of July Cowichan Summer Festival 2016 in downtown Duncan June 24th – August 1st ‘a rather fun place to be’ brought to you by the Duncan Cowichan Festival Society and a variety of community sponsors yes, 39 days are taken up with ‘free to the public’ musical treats in a festival atmosphere in downtown Duncan (the longest festival in the world that we can find)

EVENTS CUPE Stage – Charles Hoey Memorial Park hourly showcases by touring and local talent

Monday-Friday from noon till 8pm daily

Saturday from 11am till 8pm

Event Sundays from 11am till 3pm with added concerts from 4pm till 8pm concerts to complete the day

Walkabout Wednesdays City Stage- Duncan City Square 7:30pm - 10pm-ish this is a chance for the community to stroll through downtown Duncan as they gather in our city square to sit back and enjoy (or dance their shoes off) to various touring acts of renown. bring your lawn chairs and your neighbours there will be food vendors this year

July 13th 7:30pm nFuze jazz fusion brought together out of the love of Pat Metheny landscapes

8:30pm Novel Voz 7 piece cuban acapella vocal group

July 20th 7:30pm Preston Davies Band Local jazz band that will be housing Holly’s band

City of Duncan Train Station Parking Lot Identity Graphics Canada Cup Mixed 4 on 4 Ball Hockey Tournament 10 am -4pm mixed teams consisting of 6 always a female on the court

Human Mixed Foozeball Tournament noon-4pm yes, a human foozeball table is being made…no expertise required to participate teams consist of 6 members- substitutions allowed

Roller Derby Demonstration Noon-3pm local teams are here to encourage more to join in this very fun sport

RC Demonstration / Competition 11am-2pm local RC players bring it on to demonstrate just how much fun this can be… with a slight local competitive edge

CUPE Stage – Charles Hoey Memorial Park music hourly from 11am-8pm

Canada Day Cake 4pm ish by the Centennial Totem Pole free cake for all who attend

there are no fireworks planned for Canada Day due to weather restrictions (do join your neighbours on the last Friday of November for Xmas Light –Up when the City of Duncan ‘lights up the sky’ )

Teacher/Student Showcases most weekdays at 3pm daily various invited teachers and their students showcase what they do

Duncan Has Talent Tues./Wed./Thurs. / Fri. - 5pm where the youth in our community are invited to enter a competition in 4 categories: dance / cover tunes-instrumental (under 21) new this year: cover tunes-instrumental (21 and over) also returning: original song contest (21 under and over) the Sassy Lion Thrift Store with the Lions Club of Duncan supply bursaries of $500/$250/$100 for the top three in each category for under 21

Open Mic Mondays -5pm there are many in the community that would like stage time for 3 or 4 songs only and this gives up that opportunity

Grande Parade July 16th-11am in conjunction with the City of Duncan, Municipality of North Cowichan the annual Grande Parade takes place meandering throughout downtown Duncan …always a treat as various business and organizations strut their stuff. with invited marching bands as well as our own Cowichan Pipes and Drums it is this weekend that the DBIA showcases their event Duncan Days

Tuesday July 19th 7:30pm - TBA 8:30pm - Moulettes http://www.moulettes.co.uk/ Since playing together at school in Glastonbury to residencies on Tin Pan Alley, to a multitude of festivals including Glastonbury, Bestival, Cropredy, Cambridge Folk, End Of The Road and Green Man along with relentless world touring, the band have become renowned for their breath taking live shows. On the way the band have shared both the stage and studio with many well-known artists in Folk, Prog, Pop and Rock, including Mick Jagger, Nick Cave, Seasick Steve, Bonobo, Gentle Giant, Mumford and Sons (Ted Dwane was a founding Moulette), Dave Gilmour (Pink Floyd), Bellowhead, and The Levellers.

all of these scheduled musical events are designed to bring community together to celebrate our diverse local / Canadian and international music scenes, to give the opportunity to meet our neighbours, share a common experience and hopefully be able to now greet each other with a friendly smile on any future happen chance connections
