A Relaxing Vacation Full of Variety Unique

Most of all

A boating vacation creates the rare opportunity to get to know a country, its inhabitants, culture and cuisine – in a straightforward and easy-going way.

Please remember to read our general conditions carefully; they contain a lot of useful information and might be able to answer some of your questions. We hope you enjoy going over our documents and look forward to welcoming you on board soon.

Relaxing

A boating vacation is relaxing; in other words, you can take each day as it comes. In the evening you can choose to dock wherever you please or wherever the current takes you.

Best regards,

snaily

Diverse A boating vacation is never boring. There will always be something to do, for instance, steering the houseboat or maneuvering through the locks; both of these activities demand the utmost attention of the captain and his or her crew. Whilst sailing along, the unspoiled river landscape subtly merges with the charming canals. You will happen on villages and cities in an even tempo. The variety of animals and plants en route is also fascinating – do not forget to pack your binoculars!

Individual

No License

People who choose to take a houseboating vacation are usually adventurous, independent and like to enjoy life one day at a time. Accordingly, most houseboat aficionados are skeptical about timetables and prefer to follow the natural course of the sun, moon and stars. Characteristically, most of them also choose to leave the so-called indispensable watch at home.

In France it is not necessary to have a special boating license in order to navigate a houseboat. A special, temporary permit obtained by the houseboat rental company fulfills all of the legal requirements.

Easy Should you choose to make a booking – either directly or through your travel agent – you will then receive all of the necessary documents. It is strongly advised that you read the logbook from cover to cover prior to your trip; it contains important tips and information. When you come to take over the houseboat at our home office, it will take us approximately two hours to finish up the paperwork and give you an introduction to the houseboat. Then you will be ready to embark on your houseboating adventure and your only concern will be to return the houseboat at the pre-arranged destination on time. Should an unforeseeable situation arise, there is a breakdown-service which operates in the area – seven days a week and usually free of charge.

The Fascinating World of Waterways in Burgundy

Seveux-Savoyeux

In the north, the Saône is connected to the Elsass via the Canal des Vosges. Further down, the Canal de la Bourgogne à la Champagne provides a connection to Lorraine and Champagne. The Canal du Rhône au Rhin leads to St. Jean-de-Losne, the Canal de Bourgogne branches off in the rivers Yonne and Seine; both Paris and the Atlantic Ocean can be reached via these rivers. The Canal du Centre was inaugurated over 200 years ago; it connects the river Saône with the Loire, the longest and historically most fascinating river in France. Starting in the town of Digoin, you can navigate the Loire-Chanel, either southwards to Roanne or westwards to Briare. This canal is the only one, which gives you the opportunity to access the world-famous wineyards of Burgundy (Rully, Meursault, Santenay, Chassagne-Montrachet, Pommard . . .) by boat.

The Area In Burgundy there are nearly 1200 km (746 miles) of rivers and canals almost deserted by commercial traffic but available for pleasure boating. This remarkable richness of navigable waterways is explained by the geographical situation of Burgundy. It is in fact in the heart of this region that one finds the watershed between the valleys of the three principal French rivers, the Seine, the Loire and the Rhône. During the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries a vast network of canals was built throughout Burgundy in order to link these three rivers which offers, in addition to the already navigable rivers Saône, Yonne and Seille, boating opportunities of great tourist interest. For centuries, the Burgundy has been a significant junction for northsouth as well as east-west traffic; the navigable waterways come together and lead to the Mediterranean Sea, the Atlantic Ocean, the North Sea and the Black Sea. The variety of waterways in Burgundy and the wide range of scenery through which they will take you, create a true paradise for any captain and crew. The river Saône is navigable from the village of Corre for approximately 400 kilometers until Lyon. As a small river, it meanders through Franche-Comté, becomes wider in Burgundy and flows into the river Rhône as an impressive river.

Chagny Chagny is situated at a convenient location; this charming little town is close to the A6 highway from Paris to Lyon – just 15 kilometers away from the large highway junction in Beaune – and can easily be reached from all directions. Chagny is also accessible by train and our home office is located close to the train station. This typical French village and ist surroundings also have a lot of fine cuisine to offer: from simple bistros to the renowned ***Lameloise! All year round, there is a market on Sunday mornings (from 8 a.m. to noon) that takes place in the traffic-free city center; for the most part, fresh local produce is sold, for example cheese, poultry, vegetables and fruits.
