Château Talbot – St Julien One of the best Talbots in recent years and Parker scored this 94/100. Plum purple colour and terrific notes of crème de cassis, liquorice, roasted herbs and smoky barbecue. A full-bodied, and wonderfully fruity palate, sensational texture and a long finish, but no hardness or astringency.

De Grand-Puy Ducasse – Pauillac A blend of 67% Cabernet Sauvignon & 33% Merlot. It offers very typical Pauillac aromas and flavours of graphite, cassis and cedar, with a touch of raspberry to boot.

La Dame de Malescot – Margaux A hot tip from a director at Tanners Wines, this is really very good. Super ripe fruit with a fresh character of cassis and dark raspberries. More on the palate with complexity, pepper and spice with fine elegant tannins on the finish.

Gevrey-Chambertin – Dujac Dujac is the best address in Morey Saint Denis, where this producer is based, neighbouring Gevrey-Chambertin. It is friendly and approachable, ready to drink now. 2012 was a very attractive vintage for red burgundy, producing wines that are filled with delightful, easy fruit.
