Dr. Ann Wetherell of Willamette University discusses and explores the social and political context of Japanese woodblock print spanning three centuries. On Display Jan 6-29, 2017 Art Talk: Jan 13, 6 pm

On Display Feb 3-26, 2017 Art Talk: Feb 6, 6 pm

Five A6 artists share recent prints inspired by trees. Dawn Emerson, Patricia Clark, Jean Harkin, Stirling Gorsuch, and Robin Thomas take varied inspiration—from the gnarled Junipers of Oregon’s Badlands to the regenerating forest from the B&B Fire Complex. This exhibit will be on display at the World Forestry Center in Portland October 28 through December 31, and then travel to A6.

Portland artist Elise Wagner presents a richly-surfaced body of work in this solo exhibit. Working with wax, Wagner creates textural plate surfaces which she then inks and prints. Wagner will share her collagraph print process in a Print & Play workshop (see page 7).

Our annual A6 member exhibit explores a fresh idea this December, presenting original prints and artists books that harness the power of red. In large or small doses, red can energize a work of art, draw the eye, or “fire a gun” (as Constable aptly described J.M.W. Turner’s famous last-minute dab of red paint on his painting, Helvoetsluys.

Relics and Ruins

Photo of Armenian Ruins by Marcin Konsek

Biennial International Artist Books Exhibition Best in Show Award: Artist Residency at Playa at Summer Lake! How do the traces and remains of the past color our view of the present? What significance do we give to these rusted, frayed, eroded pieces of past lives, past histories, past civilizations? Do we cherish these reminders or cast them aside in our quest for progress and reinvention? Do these broken buildings and aged artifacts grow more beautiful in their decay, a natural part of “the inevitable ruin of everything”? Or are they loaded reminders of destruction and abandonment?

In large or small doses, red can energize a work of art, draw the eye, or “fire a gun” (as Constable aptly described J.M.W. Turner’s famous dab of red paint.) Only current A6 artist members may submit work for jurying. Active membership must be sustained through the length of the exhibit. Submitted work must have been completed within the last 12 months. See full guidelines online at atelier6000.org.

Entries Due: November 6 Exhibit Dates: December 2-31

A6 invites submissions of hand-made artist books to this juried exhibition that explores relics and ruins of ancient and modern times, from sources real and imagined. Book artist Ann Kresge will serve as juror; jurying will be done by the actual work.

Entries Due: February 10, 2017 Exhibit Dates: March 3–April 2, 2017
