June 7th—The Most Holy Body And Blood Of Christ

FROM THE PASTOR… Dear Parishioners, Two freak accidents took place here last weekend. One concerned a member of our Korean community (Byung Tai Kim), who was volunteering at the 37th Street Pastoral Center by cutting down tree branches there. He fell off his ladder and fractured his pelvis. Please keep him in your prayers as he recovers from surgery, The other incident happened last Sunday evening around 6:00 pm. Our security camera video shows a red car speeding the wrong way on Hunters Point Avenue on the side of the church (on the sidewalk no less!); then crashing through the closed gates of our rear parking lot; then swinging into the fence at the far left corner from the inside of the lot. We had no clue until the fence damage was discovered on Monday morning, along with a NYPD note advising us of the property damage due to a motor vehicle incident and directing us to contact the local precinct for the report. The report is not yet ready as this bulletin goes to press. On an entirely different note: the special collections seem to “bunch up” this month. Our parish-support envelope company unfortunately put three envelopes in the packet for next weekend: Regular Collection, Air Conditioning and Retired Religious. While we do ask for a hand paying the A.C. bill, it’s a little early in the season, especially given the recent nippy weather. You can hold off on that one until later (July? August?) and put it in any collection. Next weekend’s second collection will be in support of Retired Religious, especially Sisters and Brothers who have served us with distinction. The tag line on the envelope and in the promo brochure says it all: “Give to those who gave a lifetime.” This is an important cause. Once in a while, non-Korean parishioners attend the Korean liturgy here, probably for time convenience. Please note that there will not be a 9:45 liturgy here next Sunday, as the Korean Martyrs Apostolate celebrates its annual Field Mass on Long Island that day. You may notice an additional priest here on Sundays for a few weeks. Father Hector Gutierrez is on vacation (first time in the U.S.) from Colombia. He officiated at the Spanish May Crowning here last Saturday and I invited back for the Sunday Spanish Mass last weekend and today. He wound up staying in White Plains and says he “couldn’t find any Latinos there”! Remember we will have a “Blessing of Fathers” at all Fathers Day weekend Masses (June 20/21). Bring your Dad for a special prayer and a symbolic “token” of his role. St. Teresa’s is starting an A.A. group on Wednesdays. Phone the rectory there (718-7842123) for more info. Today is the Queen of Angels Fine Art Fair (until 5 pm). Go for as browse! Finally, our 11:00 am Mass Choir ends its “pastoral season” with today’s feast of Corpus Christi. Thanks to them and all in our music ministry for the commitment of their service in song. - Father Jerry Jecewiz SECOND COLLECTION THIS WEEKEND TO SUPPORT CATHOLIC COMMUNICATIONS: Your generosity enables the Church to use all forms of media to send out the message of Christ to the world. Thank you! PARISH STAFF/EQUIPO PARROQUIAL Rev. Jerry Jecewiz, Pastor Rev. Luke Kim, Korean Ministry Sister Christine Scherer, D.W., Religious Educ. Mr. Jan Wnek, Music Minister

presencia

y

por

la

oración

silenciosa;

forma

prolongada

o

breve;
