Description of Training Courses **All classes are 1 hour long, 1 time per week (unless otherwise stated)**
AKC Star Puppy Class: 8-12 weeks of age 6 week Course: Prepare you and your pup for the Star Puppy Test. The first class is without pets, just the owners so we can go over what is expected of you and your pup. The next five classes concentrate on preparing for the Star Puppy Real Deal.
AKC Star Puppy Real Deal Single Session: We test you and your dog on the AKC Star Puppy in accordance with the standards set the by the American Kennel Club.
Puppy: 8-12 weeks of age 5 Week Course: Classes will be assembled according to size of breed and will incorporate basic puppy socialization with question and answer time during the class. We will discuss and offer advice for potty training, conditioning your dog to a clicker, walking on a leash and how to address a variety of unwanted behaviors. By working together we can start your pup off in the right way.
Basic Obedience: Must be at least 12 weeks 5 Week Course: This class is for young pups or dogs that are ready to learn their basic commands. We will teach walking on a loose leash, sit, down, place command and the beginning of a recall command (coming back when called). For our social participants we will have 15 minutes of socialization to help make training fun!
Advance Obedience: Must have Basic Obedience 6 Week Course: This class is for the dogs that have mastered basic obedience and are now ready to move on to the next step of those commands. We will take the loose leash and turn it into a heel command with a courtesy sit. The sit command will become strong, enabling your dog to stay in that sit until released. The same applies to the down and place commands. We work hard on the recall with an ultimate goal of having your dog come straight back and sitting for you. Again, playtime will help stretch their legs and provide a great way to end the session!
Intro to Canine Good Citizen (CGC) 6 Week Course: If your dog has mastered the advance obedience class you may want to consider the Intro to Canine Good Citizen. In this class we will explain the test and explore all ten situations that you and your dog will be tested upon. Each week we will work on two of those situations. By the end of this class you will know exactly what will be expected of you to pass the Canine Good Citizen test. This class will be done with the training tool of your choice.
CGC: Final Prep 4 Week Course: This class follows the Intro to CGC. You will not be permitted to use any training tool that is not allowed in the actual test. We work hard in each class to prepare you to pass the final CGC test. Again, we will take two situations each night and work hard on them so you will feel comfortable, confident and ready for the real deal!
