Why plan a budget? What does this mean for your unit? You can use the council popcorn sale to fund your entire year’s worth of activities. Imagine being able to have great events, campouts, and have every boy go to summer camp without asking the family for any money. It’s possible with popcorn. In other sales, the average sales per scout was about $300 and some units achieved $1500 per scout average! That’s enough for at least summer camp and could fund a high adventure program. Use a planning spreadsheet to evaluate your yearly expenses and establish a goal selling amount for each scout to achieve and your year will be a great success! Helpful Hint: Share this information with your parents!

Download the Budget Planning spreadsheet from the Glacier’s Edge Council website at glaciersedge.org.

Return your completed Budget to Brittany Volenberg at [email protected]

by August 19th for an additional 1% commission.

A great sale starts with a great kickoff! Follow these simple steps to start your popcorn sale with a BANG and motivate Scouts, parents and other volunteers.

1. Plan ahead. Think of an agenda that will be fast-paced and FUN! A good kickoff should be under an hour. 2. Emphasize WHY it is important to sell popcorn. Communicate the exciting Scouting program and how families can cover all their annual expenses with one sale. CAMPMASTERS makes it easy to sell delicious popcorn so Scouts can spend more time having fun and less time selling popcorn. 3. Show Scouts the tools available from CAMPMASTERS. This includes their order forms, prize sheets, training videos and much more! Visit www.campmasters.org to see all the tools available. 4. Spend some time explaining the different ways to sell, key dates for the program and show and sell locations. 5. Motivate Scouts to set goals for their sales and to pick an awesome prize! CAMPMASTERS offers great High Achiever Prizes for top sellers. 6. Finish the evening with a memorable event, like throwing pies in the leaders’ faces or funny role-playing. A kick off will be exciting when Scouts are involved in the action! 7. Enter the CAMPMASTERS Kick Off Contest! 8. Enter our local GLACIER’S EDGE COUNCIL Kick Off Contest!

Show and Sell: This sale is designed to sell popcorn that your unit popcorn kernel signs out and picks up at a district warehouse. Then, at a location of your choice, you and the Scouts from your unit sell the popcorn directly to the public. Suggested locations could include grocery stores, malls, video stores, or any area with a large number of people. Popcorn from this sale will be returnable if the unit is unable to sell it. If you have excess popcorn from the Show and Sell sale, you may either return it for credit by no later than November 2nd, OR roll it over into your traditional Take Order Sale. NOTE: All popcorn is returnable so long as product containers are in sellable condition and multiple products are not mixed in a case.

The GEC reserves the right to require payment for prior Show and Sell product orders at the time of reordering.

Show and Deliver: This is the best way to increase popcorn sales, The Scouts sell the product, deliver it to the customer, and collect the money all in one trip. Your unit may plan a “Blitz Day” and go to a neighborhood as a group. Split the boys into a couple of Scouts per group and start going door to door. The Scouts take an order form and product to the door. They show the customer the sale flier that includes all the products available to purchase. Once they receive an order, they collect the money, and then go to the car, get the product, and deliver it immediately. This sale is very favorable to customers because they don’t have their popcorn delivered at a later date.

Take Order Sale: This sale is the most well-known way for your unit to raise funds. The Scouts in your unit take orders on a form for different varieties of popcorn and then deliver them to the customers at a later date. The forms from all Scouts are turned in to your unit popcorn kernel and only one unit order is placed. The popcorn is picked up by the unit kernel and distributed to the boys who made the sales.

Online Sales: The unit kernel registers their sellers on www.campmasters.org. This will give the Scout a “seller ID”. Send an email out to friends and family and they can use the seller ID to order product and have it delivered right to them. 15
