RUBBISH EVERYWHERE

I was quite annoying with rubbish. I read Kompas newspaper, the Jakarta Governor said that he ordered to dig Ciliwung river and he got thick layer of rubbish. When I swim in pantai Sabak, Kota Bharu, the beach have a lot of rubbish from many types of materials such as glass, plastic, rubber, paper. I was inspired with Robert Glenn Ketchum (b. 1947), CVNRA, #125 (a toxic waterfall in a national recreation area), 1986, from the project “Overlooked in America. Robert took beautiful toxic waterfall. So I just set up all the rubbish and took the picture to remind people how important not to throw rubbish.

TRAFFIC ACCIDENT I was shock when I saw nearly every day, the animal was hit by car or motorcycle. Various animal were killed from small size such as bird up to big lizard. You can even find civet was hit by car in small road. Surprisingly, the street in Kota Bharu, Malaysia have not many cars but the people drive quite fast. I took this project to remind people to drive carefully.

HIDDEN DEFORESTATION I have been staying in Kota Bharu for nearly three years. I was surprised that nearly every day, some people in the village always burns leaves, thatched grass and open a land to build houses, plantations etc. I want to express the hidden deforestation in Kota Bharu by taking pictures and combine the photos in computers. Although the deforestation is not as fast as in Borneo or Sumatra, but it happens nearly every day.

DISAPPEARING BIG TREES I remembered when I was child at Bandung, I saw many big trees which was cut down recently because the city need to enlarge streets. I was impressed with Kota Bharu, because the city still have big trees in the middle of the town.

HOMAGE TO IMPRESSIONIST I am wondering how the impressionist painters saw the nature during that time. I knew that Monet drew his garden in his old ages with his “unfocused” eyes. I tried to make the impressionist photo and try to develop further from Ernst Haas.

MY SON’S VIEW AT HIS HOME I just imagined what my son’s saw at his home when he was at 1 years old. He had to look up to see many things or to find something interesting to play. Before he was one year old, he like to see and chat with “someone” in the corner of the house. I saw there were nobody in the corner.

DROUGHT I just wanted to express drought with dropping leaves. The drought was the worst this year in Indonesia, it took for over three months and the heat went up until 40oC.
