abstr act The Event Leading up to the Live-Cell Therapy In April of 1931, physician and researcher Paul Niehans saved the life of a patient who was about to die in a severe bout of tetanus. During Struma surgery the patient’s parathyroid function had inadvertently been destroyed. ALL rescue attempts by other physicians had already failed. Doctor Niehans saved the day by injecting the patient with carefully minced fresh animal parathyroid tissue. This event rang in the era of live-cell therapy. The patient recovered and to everyone’s surprise the injection of protein from another species did not cause any adverse effects. Professor Niehans’s pioneering discovery resulted in a new therapy based on the application of an almost forgotten biological principle. This new method involved using youthful tissue from donor animals to regenerate human tissue. Meanwhile, Professor Niehans and his students pressed on developing this biological therapy. Today, their methods are optimised for the safe treatment of many chronic diseases, degenerative diseases, and dysfunctions.
