Bulletin No. 1 Thursday 4th November 2010
Copenhagen Bridge Invitational Tournoi International du Prince Consort de Danemark Editors: Henrik Kruse Petersen, Ib Lundby, Jan van Cleef etc.
WELCOME TO COPENHAGEN On behalf of the Danish Bridge Federation, Danmarks Bridgeforbund and the Organizing Committee, it is a great pleasure to welcome you to the Copenhagen Bridge Invitational 2010. The fact that 32 of the world’s best bridge players meet here in Copenhagen, and amongst these several Danish players, is no less than an unique accomplishment. The most important explanation, why this has succeeded, are willingly Per Egelund support from our sponsors and in particular Tivoli Congress Center, Foss, and Børsen, who have made it possible to arrange the tournament in these wonderful surroundings. Besides the sponsors, lots of work at this event has been put down from the organizers and from a number of volunteers from the Danish Bridgefederation. A special thank to His Royal Highness Prince Consort of Denmark, who not only has accepted to patronize the event, but will participate as a player in our Pro-Am as well, and later on Sunday 7th November 2010 hand over the prizes to the winning pairs. We are looking forward to four fantastic and intense days, where Bridge at the highest and finest level will be in focus. Enjoy your stay in Copenhagen! Per Egelund President of Danmarks Bridgeforbund
His Royal Highness Prince Consort of Denmark is the Patron of the event and will dignify it with his presence at the PRO-AM tournament preceding the main event on the evening of November 4th. THURSDAY 4th NOVEMB E R 2 0 10

INFO ABOUT THE TOURNAMENT The format of the CBI tournament is well known from the former Cap Gemini, Sunday Times, Macallan and Politiken World Pairs: 16 world class pairs playing 10 boards against all the other pairs with IMPs across the field scoring. The playing venue is the brand new Tivoli Congress Center (Arni Magnussons Gade 4, 1577 København V) situated in the heart of Copenhagen _ and of course next to the world famous Tivoli. The surroundings and the facilities will make this an extraordinary event both for players and kibitzers. We start Thursday, November 4th with the PRO-AM tournament. This will offer everybody a unique opportunity to play a tournament with a world class partner. Most of the amateurs (AMs) have bought the experts (PROs) on the Internet before the tournament on auction principles. We meet at 17:30 for drinks and snacks. The PROS’s and the AM’s meet to discuss a system _ keep it simple.

CONDITIONS OF CONTEST 1. The Tournament is played under the WBF International Code Laws of Duplicate Bridge – 2007 and these Conditions of Contest whose special provisions for this contest supplement The Laws required. 2. Each pair will play 10 boards against each other pair. 3. The ‘Butler’ method i used as a method for scoring. To determine the datum score, top and bottom scores are excluded; six (6) scores remaining. In case of an artificial score, a weighted score or an unbalanced score (Laws 12C2a, 12C1c or 12C1f) the result is excluded from the calculation of the datum score. The score of each of the competing pairs will be compared with the datum score, and the difference rounded off to the nearest multiple of 10 (5 will be rounded towards the ceiling) gives the imps won or lost by the pair. The total difference in imps, limited to ±40 will be the result of the match. For publicity reasons (no negative numbers) 40 imps will be added to the result of each pair each round. 4. All tables are fitted with BridgeMates. It is the responsibility of the player seated north to operate the BridgeMate, filling in the requested data successively during the round. Whenever the BridgeMate calls for verification by east or west, north shall hand the BrigdeMate to one of his opponents, whom should verify the data entered prior to sending it. The results and the ranking are published immediately after the conclusion of the round. The players are obliged to check their scores and in case of disagreement to object before the start of the next round. After the last round of a session the correction period will expire 20 minutes after the official score has been completed and made available for inspection. 5. Players are requested to be seated 2 minutes before the start of each round. Any pair which is not seated and ready to play at the start of a round will be subject to a warning. The playing time is 75 minutes all included. Failure to complete the play within the time stipulated will result in a warning for one or both pairs. Each 5 minutes after the official playing time has run out, new warnings will be assigned for the late pairs. Any warning subsequent to the first throughout the event will lead to a penalty of 3 imps. 6. Contestants are required to make full written disclosure of their System and also to make a full disclosure of the meaning of any call or play in response to a proper question at the table from an opponent. It is recommended that the full written disclosure referred to in the above paragraph is made by the completion in due form of the WBF Convention Card and Supplementary Sheets as required. Partnerships are not required to file their Convention Cards prior to play, but they should be presented to the opponents at the beginning of each round without the need for request. Brown sticker conventions are allowed but must be pre-alerted at the beginning of each round. HUM-methods are not allowed. Brown sticker and HUM are defined as in WBF Systems Policy.

7. The WBF Alerting policy is in effect. Please note that the following calls should never be alerted: a. All doubles. b. Any no-trump bid which suggests a balanced or semi-balanced hand, or suggests a no-trump contract. c. Any call at the four level or higher, with the exception of conventional calls on the first round of the auction. 8. No player may leave his table during play time except for rest room breaks and then only after giving notice to a TD. After completion of play it is not allowed to watch the play at other tables. 9. Tie between two or more pairs will not be broken. Prices if any will be divided. 10. All pairs must have their table set up in the pits as often as required. 11. A contestant may appeal any ruling of a Tournament Director, provided that the appeal is made no later than 30 minutes after the conclusion of the round. Notification of intention to appeal must be given to the Tournament Director. A deposit if 50 Euro must accompany each appeal. The deposit will be refunded if the appeal is judged not to have been frivolous. The players involved are requested to meet for the Appeals Committee. The Appeals Committee will consist of three members: 1 chairman appointed by the chairman of the Appeals Committee of the Danish Bridge Federation and two members appointed by the chief TD among the participating players. 12. The following articles from the WBF General Conditions of Contest are included in these CoC: 2, 5, 6, 9.2, 15, 23, 24.

TIVOLI CONGRESS CENTER Tivoli Congress Centre is situated in the heart of the city – just around the corner from the Central Station, and within walking distance of the city’s hotels, shops and attractions. Are you looking for a new venue with space for up to 4,000 people, and which is centrally located in one of Europe’s coolest capitals? Then Tivoli Congress Center is the venue for you. Copenhagen’s newest centre, which opened only three weeks ago, is adjacent to the new, 402room, themed Tivoli Hotel, and the budget hotel, Copenhagen Wake Up Hotel, which offers more than 500 rooms.
Tivoli Hotel has been given an exciting thematic design touch by the Tivoli Gardens, the city’s most popular tourist attraction, while the Tivoli Congress Center is also inspired by the design in Tivoli Gardens, albeit in a slightly more low key way. Tivoli Congress Center and Tivoli Hotel are within walking distance of the Tivoli Gardens.
Capacity of 4,000
After hosting the UN Climate Change Conference COP15 last year, Copenhagen now boasts a fully authenticated sustainable profile. The number of eco-labelled hotels in the city has risen from 8% in 2008 to close to 60% today. Climate friendly solutions are also top of agenda at the Danish Arp-Hansen Hotel Group, which is behind both the Tivoli Hotel, Copenhagen Wake Up Hotel and the new congress centre. The chain currently has 11 hotels in Copenhagen, all of which - like the new congress centre - have the Danish eco-label, the Green Key. Next door, Tivoli Hotel offers 402 superbly furnished, modern guest rooms with delightful, panoramic views of the Danish capital as well as a state-of-the-art business centre; a restaurant; and, up on the 12th floor, a Sky Bar. There is also a fully equipped gym, sauna and swimming pool.
