Commodore’s Watch August! Truly best named "Regatta". We are in full abandon out there - noticeably - absolutely,1 and truly, enjoying Summer. It really is just the best time of the year. This time, each year, too, we share our great joy of the water in Celebration with our Community. On Astoria's official Regatta weekend we begin Friday evening, the 14th, from 5 - 7 pm hosting Spud Siegel and friends, and our traditional greeting to visiting Portland Yacht Club members, at the AYC tent at West Basin. Spud will then lead the evenings' Classic Ketch and Cutter Sail along the waterfront, and our longtime friends from PYC then continue downtown - to be "Shanghaied", (It takes crew, after all). Please come down and maybe forget to warn them. Saturday, August 15th, Thor Sorenson presents the first of two day's Regatta Keelboat races he's organized - with the day's course a run about mid day reaching down/river from the Bridge. Departure is from West Basin. Sunday morning on the I6th , AYC's annual pancake and. sausage Breakfast -$5.00 per plate, $1.00 for coffee, or $10.00 for all you can eat and an AYC mug -will be offered at the tent due to the assistance of Cat Anderson, Dot Martin and others, and the courtesy of the cooking trailer donated by the Astoria Lions Club. Serving will be from 8 to 11 am. commence at the dock behind the tent, notably announced, we feel, by Denny's CANNON. Tickets are $5.00 per duck available at breakfast, or anytime prior from the Club or the Regatta Association. All proceeds will go directly to an Astoria Yacht Club award for a local youth enrolled in a local Maritime Career Study Program. Winning ducks are good for $100 first place, $50.00 second place and $25.00 third. Astoria Regatta Princesses are the Judges and their word (or words) rule! Completing a great weekend for many to enjoy, Thor will launch the second day's Sail Race about Noon from West Basin aiming, as conditions permit, well above the Bridge, and along Astoria's downtown. Altogether the enjoyment of the waterfront is just fine; however, we will have none of the affinity exhibited last year by The Tent, One (big) gust of wind and it went right in the drink. Tipsy it will not be allowed to be again, and its being fitted with Chicago style "shoes" and is going nowhere. We're pretty sure. Come look for it! Additional to a very busy month of Regatta is this years Bridge to Bridge event August 8 &9. Two boats from AYC, and ten others from the region will sail from Astoria to Newport Or. This will be quite an event for those of us who

And Sunday, August 30th we will again enjoy the pleasure of our afternoon East Basin Rally and Race. and August is truly to be enjoyed.
