January 1, 2017 Mary, Holy Mother of God

THE BLESSING WE RECEIVE The blessing we experience in Christ Jesus is proclaimed in Numbers as the special blessing for the people of Israel. They and we are to be blessed by the invocation of God’s loving kindness, the shining glory of God’s face turned toward us in love, not away from us in anger. We are blessed by God’s own peace! Our wish and our hope are fulfilled in this blessing, which is made visible in the coming of Jesus. In Jesus, the image of the invisible God, God’s face is shown to us and God’s presence is made known to us in faithful and loving kindness. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

2• CHRIST, THE GOOD SHEPHERD PARISH, CAMPBELL, OHIO La Esquina Del Pastor Merry Christmas! Happy New Year! Christ is born! Glorify him! We begin this new calendar year with the celebration of Mary, Mother of God. It is one of the oldest titles that we have for Mary. And, it is appropriate to remember her under that name during the season when we celebrate Christ’s birth. And, so, we place ourselves once again under her protection. We entrust to her all of our hopes and fears for the New Year. I am looking forward to next week and our celebration of Epiphany. Please, see inside for more details about our celebration after Mass. Here is a prayer to Mary by Pope Francis: Mary, Virgin and Mother, you who, moved by the Holy Spirit, welcomed the word of life in the depths of your humble faith: as you gave yourself completely to the Eternal One, help us to say our own “yes” to the urgent call, as pressing as ever, to proclaim the good news of Jesus. Filled with Christ’s presence, you brought joy to John the Baptist, making him exult in the womb of his mother. Brimming over with joy, you sang of the great things done by God. Standing at the foot of the cross with unyielding faith, you received the joyful comfort of the resurrection, and joined the disciples in awaiting the Spirit so that the evangelizing Church might be born. Obtain for us now a new ardor born of the resurrection, that we may bring to all the Gospel of life which triumphs over death. Give us a holy courage to seek new paths, that the gift of unfading beauty may reach every man and woman. Virgin of listening and contemplation, Mother of love, Bride of the eternal wedding feast, pray for the Church, whose pure icon you are, that she may never be closed in on herself or lose her passion for establishing God’s kingdom. Star of the new evangelization, help us to bear radiant witness to communion, service, ardent and generous faith, justice and love of the poor, that the joy of the Gospel may reach to the ends of the earth, illuminating even the fringes of our world. Mother of the living Gospel, wellspring of happiness for God’s little ones, pray for us. Amen. Alleluia! God bless you, Fr. Conoboy

Feliz Navidad!
Aleluya. Que Dios te bendiga, Padre Conoboy

STEWARDSHIP OF TREASURE January 1, 2017 Solemnity of Mary, The Holy Mother of God “And Mary kept all these things, reflecting on them in her heart.” Luke 2:19 Mary is the perfect role model for living a stewardship lifestyle. She listened to God and said “yes” to His invitation to be the Holy Mother of His son. She also trusted in the God’s providence on a daily basis. As we start a new year, take time every day to listen to how God is calling you; trust that He has a better plan for you than you could ever imagine.
