Celebrity’s Northern Europe

Celebrity’sNorthern Europe

Old World, new views. Northern Europe will profoundly alter your perceptions of people and places, as well as time. Contrast the relics of medieval Scotland and artifacts dating back to the time of Viking explorers in Oslo with the energy of Berlin, the quiet sophistication of London, or the illumination of the Parisian skyline. The perspective will help you to see events not merely as points on a timeline but as a rich tapestry of old and new. These breathtaking destinations, along with the many shore excursions offered on each Celebrity cruise and cruisetour, will bring this tapestry to life for you in a most spectacular fashion. Cultural Masterpieces at Every Stop Along the Way You’ll walk through some of the world’s finest art museums, like the Louvre and the Hermitage, meandering from one masterful work to another, each more profound and more breathtaking than the last. You can drink the emerald landscape of Ireland’s southwest

coast, or perhaps drink in a pint of Guinness in a local pub. You’ll stand in respectful, hushed silence inside Orthodox churches in Tallinn and St. Petersburg, surrounded by massive stained-glass windows. You’ll ponder the legend of both real and mythical monarchs

The Eiffel Tower; awe-inspiring ceiling of St. Petersburg Cathedral; the famous bright red Double-Deckers of London; coffee and smiles in a French café.

in castles like Versailles and Cawdor. And you’ll find illumination in the far northern latitudes of Honningsvåg, Norway, where the sun shines nearly around the clock. Explore Further Integrate your Northern Europe cruise with a cruisetour, traveling beyond the coastline and into the heart of Europe’s splendor. Spend an idyllic afternoon in a Parisian café, recounting the marvels you’ve winessed that morning, like the view from the Eiffel Tower or Notre Dame Cathedral. Watch the changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace in England. Or take a boat tour through Amsterdam’s complex network of canals. To ensure that you get the most out of every moment you spend with us in Europe, each Celebrity cruisetour will be accompanied by an experienced Tour Director fluent in the local language, who will serve as both knowledgeable guide and personal concierge.

EXPERIENCES OF A LIFETIME Get the most out of your Northern Europe vacation, both on land and sea, with great cruisetour packages. See pages 32-33 or visit celebritycruises.com/cruisetours for details. We suggest you book your shore excursions early. Northern Europe Shore Excursions

Discover Europe’s inner beauty. There is so much here that invites closer inspection. Master craftsman at the Delft factory in Amsterdam and the Waterford factory in Cork, Ireland, fabricate treasures before your very eyes. You’ll explore spectacular Norwegian fjords by kayak. And you’ll feel a hushed silence on the beaches of Normandy as you pause to honor past heroism. There are winding country roads to explore by bicycle and grand avenues on which to linger. There are museums and monasteries, pubs and public gardens. But above all, there is a dignified beauty here that awaits you.

• Explore Deep Fjords (Norway)

• Stroll Along Medieval Streets (Ireland)

• Biking in the Lowlands (Belgium)

• Tour Kronborg Castle (Denmark)

• Tour Peter the Great’s Castle (Russia)

• Sea Kayaking (Sweden)

Ålesund, Norway

Alta, Norway

Amsterdam, Netherlands

Ålesund’s architecture is known far and wide. Turrets, spires, and other whimsical art nouveau architectural touches give the town its distinctive, fairy-tale-like character. The scenic spectacle of the Geiranger Fjord, one of Norway’s best-known attractions, is just a stone’s throw from this quaint little town.

The city of Alta is a welcome oasis set amid lush, tree-covered hills and valleys in the otherwise harsh and desolate Finnmark landscape. Its favorable climate, friendly inhabitants, and pleasant surroundings are just some of the reasons visitors have been attracted to this community at the head of the Alta Fjord year after year.

Amsterdam is a funky mix of old and new, coffee shops, and concentric canals. It’s a blend of cultures, but still quintessentially Dutch. Take a boat tour along the canals to enjoy the distinct and beautiful personalities of the many bridges you’ll see.

SHORE EXCURSIONS INCLUDE: Saga Islands & Atlantic Sea Park, The Path of the Trolls, Ålesund City Walking Tour

SHORE EXCURSIONS INCLUDE: Alta Canyon, Alta Museum & Paeskatun Slate Quarry

Above this line, about 66°N latitude, the summer sun remains above the horizon for at least one 24-hour period, offering a true opportunity to see a “midnight sun.” And what a scene it will illuminate — massive fjords encrusted with glacial ice, dramatically sculpted icebergs, and water of the deepest blue.

Belfast, Northern Ireland This vibrant, fast-moving city includes a fabulous dining scene, an active arts movement, and wonderful sightseeing and shopping — all on a walkable scale. Belfast is also known for its many Victorian and Edwardian buildings, complete with elaborate sculptures and stone-carved heads of gods, poets, scientists, kings, and queens. SHORE EXCURSIONS INCLUDE: Belfast – Past, Present & Future, Giant’s Causeway, Leisurely Belfast & Panoramic Highlights

Bergen, Norway Once the seat of medieval Norway, Bergen is a former Viking stronghold girded by deep fjords, towering mountains, and sweeping glaciers. SHORE EXCURSIONS INCLUDE: Delightful Warnemünde, Medieval Flavors – Highlights of Rostock, Berlin Cultural Treasures

Copenhagen, Denmark

Cork, Ireland

Whether strolling through a sea of blooming flowers in Tivoli Gardens, witnessing the changing of the guard at Amalienborg Palace, or touring Kronborg Castle — the setting of Shakespeare’s Hamlet — it’s easy to see why this once-humble fishing village grew to become the capital of Denmark.

Navigate Cork’s hilly streets and discover the affable melody of Ireland’s most talkative citizenry. Regarded as Ireland’s most charming people, Corkians have a way of making everyone feel like part of their family. In between conversations, visit local artisans and witness their skills in the arts of weaving and cutting crystal.

SHORE EXCURSIONS INCLUDE: Copenhagen by Bicycle, Royal Copenhagen, Charming Copenhagen Walk & Cruise, Tivoli Gardens Transfer

SHORE EXCURSIONS INCLUDE: Waterford, The Viking Capital of Ireland, Blarney Castle & Panoramic Cork, Titanic Walking & Heritage Trail

Ports of Call

Dublin, Ireland With Dublin Bay to the east and the Dublin Mountains to the south, the capital of Ireland has clearly left quite an impression on the surrounding lands. As you explore the medieval streets around Dublin Castle and duck in for a tasty pint served up at Keating’s Pub, you’re certain to enjoy many great conversations sprinkled with the famous Irish wit. SHORE EXCURSIONS INCLUDE: Malahide Castle & Irish Pub, Panoramic Dublin, Irish Countryside & Glendalough

Edinburgh (S. Queensferry), Scotland If ever there were a town made for walking, it would be Scotland’s capital. Renowned as one of Europe’s most attractive cities, Edinburgh’s Old Town and New Town are a marvelous mixture of elegant streets, charming squares, and quaint alleyways. Of course, the city’s most distinctive landmark is Edinburgh Castle, set high up on a craggy cliff in the center of the city. SHORE EXCURSIONS INCLUDE: Braveheart Country & Stirling Castle, City of Edinburgh & Castle, Da Vinci Trail — Rosslyn Chapel & Edinburgh

Flåm, Norway The diminutive yet breathtakingly beautiful town of Flåm is nestled deep in a tributary of the world’s longest and deepest fjord. Surrounded by steep mountainsides, roaring waterfalls, and deep valleys, visitors here experience a one-of-a-kind encounter with nature. SHORE EXCURSIONS INCLUDE: Overland to Myrdal, Geilo & Flåm, Tiny Undredal Valley Village, Kayaking in Flåm

Gdañsk (Gdynia), Poland

Harwich, England

Helsinki, Finland

This medieval city’s prime location along the Baltic Sea has made it one of the leading ports in central Europe. In Gdañsk, you’ll find 1,000-year-old monuments and buildings that have been resurrected from near-ruin and returned to their original splendor. One section of town that never needs reviving, however, is the vibrant and bustling Long Market, the center of historic Gdañsk.

Wander along the narrow streets of this city and you’ll get a feel for its seafaring history. Not only was it once the headquarters of the King’s Navy, it was also the home of Christopher Jones, who piloted the Mayflower on its voyage to Plymouth. If you’re interested in maritime history, visit either the Harwich Maritime Museum or the Harwich Lifeboat Museum.

Occupying a peninsula and several islands, this capital city’s stunning melding of old and new structures rings some of the most spectacular bays you could ever hope to find. Stroll down broad, tree-lined streets, or take in the amazing neoclassically designed architecture in Senate Square.

SHORE EXCURSIONS INCLUDE: Malbork Castle, Gdañsk & Oliwa Cathedral, Leisurely Gdañsk

SHORE EXCURSIONS INCLUDE: London Panoramic Sightseeing & Heathrow Airport (Offered on Day of Disembarkation)

Honningsvåg, Norway Located deep within the Land of the Midnight Sun, Honningsvåg is the northernmost town in Europe. And with more than 1,000 cruise ships calling during the summer season, it is also the largest and busiest cruise port in Northern Europe. Be on the lookout for free-roaming reindeer grazing on the tundra on the outskirts of town. SHORE EXCURSIONS INCLUDE: North Cape Transfer, Bird Safari, Deep Sea Rafting

Inverness/Loch Ness, Scotland This charming, historic seaport on the banks of the River Ness has many quiet pleasures to offer. Take a delightful walking tour along the riverbanks and explore the local galleries, cafés, and the famous Floral Hall. You’ll also want to visit Cawdor Castle, of Macbeth fame. Loch Ness is the largest body of fresh water in Britain — over 22 miles long, a mile and a half wide, and 750 feet deep. It is also the purported home of “Nessie,” the Loch Ness Monster.

Kirkwall, Scotland The largest town in, and the capital of, the Orkney Islands, Kirkwall is the center of Orkney in more ways than one. Almost all roads linking the east and west pass through town; it is also the port that provides inter-island ferry links to almost all the northern isles. In addition, it is considered one of the most charming and well-preserved small towns in Scotland, rich in scenic beauty, history, and medieval architecture. SHORE EXCURSIONS INCLUDE: Leisurely North Coastal Drive, Orkney Crafts, Viking Capital Walking Trail

Molde, Norway

Olden, Norway

Acknowledged as one of Norway’s major rose-growing centers, it’s no surprise that Molde is often referred to as the “city of roses.” Warmed by the Gulf Stream and protected by its surrounding hills, Molde is the beneficiary of a moderate climate, which contributes to its lush vegetation. This charming city is also home to the Ramsdal Museum, featuring one of Norway’s most impressive collections of folk art.

Much of this picturesque town, located at the tip of the Nordfjord, looks as though it is straight out of the 17th century. Its many historic sites include Olden Old Church, built in 1759 on the site of the original stave church dating back to the 14th century, and the Singer Home, former residence of the famous American painter William Singer. SHORE EXCURSIONS INCLUDE: Briksdal Glacier, Fjaerland & the Norwegian Glacier Center, Cruise on Lake Olden, Kjenndalen Glacier

This capital city’s lavish history can be uncovered at the Viking Ship Museum and the Kon-Tiki Museum, which serves as home to the Fram, a famous polarexploration ship. Cross the drawbridge to the formerly impenetrable Akershus Castle and meander through the famous Vigeland Sculpture Park before returning to the present day.

All that you’ve heard is true. Paris is simply one of the most beautiful cities in the world. See the Louvre Museum, take a romantic stroll along the Champs Élysées, linger over café au lait, or visit Notre Dame. The gleaming city of Paris is, without question, truly “The City of Light.”

SHORE EXCURSIONS INCLUDE: Rı¯ga City Tour, Panoramic Rı¯ga, Turaida & Sigulda

St. Peter Port, Channel Islands, UK Lying just off the north coast of France (the southernmost point in the British Isles), the island of Guernsey is warmed by the temperate waters of the Gulf Stream. St. Peter Port, the island’s capital, is a lively harbor town with a rich history, medieval architecture, and stunning natural beauty. It is also the site of the famous Hauteville House, where exiled author Victor Hugo completed Les Misérables. SHORE EXCURSIONS INCLUDE: Guernsey Island Drive, Guernsey Island Cycle, Guernsey Military Occupation

St. Petersburg, Russia

Stockholm, Sweden

Although reportedly built to resemble such western cities as London, Paris, and Vienna, one look at St. Petersburg’s regal palaces and vast public squares is enough to tell you that it is truly in a class of its own. If you’re fortunate enough to be in St. Petersburg in June, revel in the city’s famous “white nights,” when the boundless night sky is never completely dark.

No fewer than 50 bridges connect this Swedish capital’s 14 islands to its mainland — undoubtedly so Swedes can enjoy every inch of this magnificent city. Visit the many parks, museums, and palaces — most famous, the 600-room Royal Palace. Make your way through Gamla Stan, or Old Town, packed with historic buildings, shops, and cafés.

Tallinn, Estonia

Tromsø, Norway

Tallinn has remained remarkably unchanged since its founding in 1154 A.D. The preservation of this city’s Old World charm enables visitors to enjoy architectural marvels of centuries past, such as the soaring towers of Toompea Castle and the exquisite Russian Orthodox Cathedral. The exception is the delightfully modern pink Parliament building, visible from Palace Square.

Located on an island in northern Norway and surrounded by spectacular fjords, mountains, and a jagged coastline, Tromsø has been called the “Paris of the North.” This lively city is home to the world’s northernmost university, planetarium, cable car, and brewery. Its most famous landmark, however, is its Arctic Cathedral, whose design is evocative of the region’s snow and icebergs.

Northern Europe Cruisetours

Beyond the coast and into the continent. The European continent is a rich kaleidoscope of impressions — from the Champs Élysées to the works of the impressionist masters themselves. Celebrity’s two Northern Europe cruisetour itineraries, ranging in length from 8 to 18 nights, will immerse you deep into these historical cityscapes and exciting cultural centers like nothing else can. You’ll stay in deluxe accommodations and enjoy a myriad of on-land activities, allowing you to experience both elegance and enrichment on a grand scale. Each adventure is accompanied by a Tour Director, who will serve as both knowledgeable guide and personal concierge, and whose fluency in the local language will add to the depth of your experience.

A day of shopping; London’s Big Ben; canal shops of Amsterdam.

Amsterdam, Netherlands

Bruges, Belgium

Brussels, Belgium

Amsterdam is an eclectic mix of old and new, historical charm, and cosmopolitan flair. It’s a blend of cultures, but still quintessentially Dutch. The people-watching is rewarding, and the quest for rich history even more so. The city’s center is circled by a series of canals, which add an elegance to the surroundings. Spend some time on a boat tour and marvel at the many beautiful bridges while taking in the reflections dancing on the waters. You’ll also want to visit Anne Frank’s house, where she compiled her famous diary while in hiding during World War II.

The entire center of this well-preserved medieval town is recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage site. You can’t miss Our Lady’s Church, the tallest tower in the city and the place to visit Michelangelo’s Madonna. Nearby, you can also visit the beautiful medieval structure called St. John’s Hospital. While no longer a working hospital, it’s now home to the Memling Museum, the hospital museum, and the old pharmacy.

Headquarters of the European Union, Brussels has evolved into a multinational power center. In addition to having strong international influences, Brussels is full of culture and pride in its own heritage. Visit the Grand Place, the central market square of Brussels, and, many say, the most beautiful market in the world. From the wild blend of architectural styles to the myriad museums and shops, Brussels won’t disappoint.

Northern Europe Cruisetour Destinations MAY WE SUGGEST For your added convenience, you can view all Northern Europe cruisetours on pages 32 and 33 and online at celebritycruises.com/cruisetours.

London, England

Paris, France

“Long live the Queen,” they say. And rightfully so. You’d be hard-pressed to find any Londoner, much less Her Majesty, willing to leave a city as beautiful and grand as London. Whether your Tour Director is guiding you through Westminster Abbey or St. Paul’s Cathedral, or you’re visiting the Crown Jewels at the Tower of London, the regal city of London is one destination you won’t soon forget.

All that you’ve heard is true. Paris is simply one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Here, your Tour Director will take you past countless attractions and points of interest. See the Place de la Concorde, take a romantic stroll along the Champs Élysées, and visit Notre Dame. The gleaming city of Paris has, without question, earned its nickname: “The City of Light.”

Celebrity’s Mediterranean

Celebrity’s Mediterranean

Where civilization began, your adventure begins. Tracing your finger across a map of the Mediterranean region is like retracing the progress of history itself. This is where the roots of everything we know today took hold — art and science, drama and medicine, architecture and philosophy. It’s where the empires of Istanbul, Athens, and Rome rose and fell. Where civilizations sprang to life in cities like Venice, Sicily, and Barcelona. And it’s where deities reigned supreme in Mykonos and Santorini. Only on a Celebrity cruise or cruisetour can you truly feel the drama of the Mediterranean experience while enjoying a level of comfort and service you’ll find nowhere else. Sample Local Flavor Living museum, sun-splashed playground, cultural crossroads — the Mediterranean is more than a single country, and far more than one defining experience.

There’s the food, supplied so generously by the sea, like steaming plates of paella, hearty bouillabaisse in the Côte d’Azur, or freshly speared swordfish in Sicily.

The afternoon sun reflects upon Santorini; details of a church in Florence; the Leaning Tower of Pisa.

There are the spectacular vintages — rioja in Spain, athri in Greece, and robust chiantis, from the rich soils of Italy’s Tuscan countryside. There is the warm subtropical climate that gently caresses the beaches found on nearly every stretch of coastline. And then there is the warmth of the people themselves, who passionately embrace both life and visitors with open arms, happily sharing their bountiful homelands. Uncover the Mediterranean’s Treasures Discover the difference between visiting the Mediterranean and truly experiencing it by participating in a fully escorted cruisetour, which will add an inland perspective to the coastal splendor. You’ll venture into Italy’s far northern reaches, soaking in the grandeur of Lago Maggiore, which sits like a perfectly formed shimmering gem at the foot of the Italian Alps. At your leisure, travel along the Venetian canals on gondolas, floating by houses, churches, and other architectural wonders that stoically observe the waterways. You’ll feel the pulse of the

latest fashions in Barcelona and the ancient past in Rome. And through it all you’ll be accompanied by your Tour Director, whose fluency in the local language will enhance the feeling that you’re a part of it all.

EXPERIENCES OF A LIFETIME Get the most out of your Mediterranean vacation, both on land and sea, with great cruisetour packages. See pages 54-59 or visit celebritycruises.com/cruisetours for details. To view an interactive selection of Mediterranean ports, please visit celebrityseurope.com. Amsterdam, Netherlands

Athens (Piraeus), Greece

Monuments, avenues, squares, and museums grace this charming city, which produced one of the greatest conquerors in history. The birthplace of Napoleon Bonaparte is an island of rocky outcroppings and sandy beaches, set on a sunny bay surrounded by citrus groves, olive trees, and vineyards, and bursting with history and cultural diversity.

Amsterdam is a funky mix of old and new, coffee shops, and concentric canals. It’s a blend of cultures, but still quintessentially Dutch. Take a boat tour along the canals to enjoy the distinct and beautiful personalities of the many bridges you’ll see.

Athens brought the world drama, history, poetry, and philosophy. Once home to the world’s most powerful and civilized empires, Athens is now the world’s foremost archeological playground. The towering columns of the Parthenon still stand in homage to the virgin goddess Athena.

Ports of Call

Barcelona, Spain

Bilbao, Spain

Formerly a sleepy Spanish city, Barcelona has recently been reborn as an eclectic fusion of the modern and medieval. Seek inspiration from the creations of its modernist architect, Antonio Gaudí, or the Picasso Museum. Or, take in the breathtaking cathedrals in the Gothic Quarter.

This lively and revitalized city on the Bay of Biscay is the center of culture and economic development in Basque Country. It is home to two of the finest art galleries in Spain — the Bilbao Guggenheim Museum and the Fine Arts Museum, which houses works by masters including El Greco, Goya, and Gauguin.

SHORE EXCURSIONS INCLUDE: Tapas Tasting, Barcelona City Transfer, Montserrat & Transfer (offered on day of disembarkation)

SHORE EXCURSIONS INCLUDE: Bilbao & Guggenheim Museum, Bilbao & Tapas

Brussels (Zeebrugge), Belgium Bordering the delta of the Scheldt, Maas, and Rhine rivers, Zeebrugge could be one of the most unique seaports you visit in this lifetime. It’s also the gateway to Brussels, one of the most captivating cities in Europe. Architectural highlights include the Court of Justice, but you’ll also want to visit the quaint shopping district or Saint Boniface. SHORE EXCURSIONS INCLUDE: Bruges Sightseeing, Biking Tour to Damme, Bruges Sights & Beer Tasting

Cannes, France Cannes personifies the charisma of the French Riviera, with its long boardwalks along the sea, the massive yachts anchored in the harbor, and its warm, sunny plazas where the days and nights seem to run together. Above all, the annual film festival, which brings out the stars in abundance, makes this an absolute A-list destination. SHORE EXCURSIONS INCLUDE: Cannes Walking Tour, Monte Carlo & Grand Casino, Nice & French Riviera

Casablanca (Marrakech), Morocco Casablanca combines the atmosphere and history of times gone by with a touch of modernity. Frenetic yet welcoming, Casablanca is a lively destination. Especially Djemaa el-Fna — the huge square in the medina that is teeming with open-air food stalls, jugglers, storytellers, and snake charmers. The architecture of its French-colonial past can be seen in the graceful white buildings, with their soft lines and attention to detail.

Cherbourg, France Because of its location, Cherbourg has played an important role in military campaigns throughout history. It was a major objective of the Allied Forces during the D-Day invasion, and it changed hands several times during the Middle Ages, as France and England fought to establish their sovereign territories. It was even the site of a Civil War naval battle — between the USS Kearsarge and the CSS Alabama. Marble-paved squares, monasteries, and fountains are just a few of the many antiquities that remain as they were years ago. This former Greek banking and trading center is rich with historic sites, including the Great Theater, the Temple of Hadrian, and the Temple of Artemis, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.

This beautiful Italian seaport of Livorno, on the shores of the Ligurian Sea, is the gateway to Florence, Pisa, and Tuscany’s vast wine country. Pisa is most noted for its famous marble bell tower, the Leaning Tower of Pisa. It’s no surprise the tower is still standing (though it has tilted 14 feet since 1370), considering that it resides in the Field of Miracles, known locally as Campo dei Miracoli.

SHORE EXCURSIONS INCLUDE: House of Virgin Mary & Ephesus, Temple of Artemis, St. John’s Basilica & House of Virgin Mary

SHORE EXCURSIONS INCLUDE: Tuscan Countryside – San Gimignano & Volterra, Scenic Drive & Wine Tasting, Leaning Tower of Pisa

Gibraltar, United Kingdom

Gijón, Spain

Istanbul, Turkey

Over 3,000 years ago, according to archeologists, fishermen settled this outpost, drawn by the bounty of the sea. Today, Gijón retains that original spirit, and much of the older part of town’s cobblestone streets and stone buildings have been restored. A good place to appreciate Gijón’s ties to the ocean is the spectacular Eligio del Horizonte, or Praise to the Horizon, a massive sculpture that gazes seaward.

In exotic Istanbul, you could spend an entire day strolling through the Grand Bazaar, exploring the famous Blue Mosque, or wandering through the majestic Topkapi Palace, with its gardens, libraries, and 400-room harem.

La Rochelle, France

Lisbon, Portugal

Mykonos, Greece

This picturesque port town on the Atlantic was the capital city of French Protestantism from which the founders of Montreal set sail. History-lovers will find signs of the town’s turbulent past in the 14th-century towers that guard the old port and the medieval and Renaissance architecture of the fortified Old Town. Beach-lovers will enjoy the sandy beaches and sparkling waters of nearby Île de Ré.

See why this city stands out above all others as you stroll along elaborate mosaic sidewalks and pass by the Monument to the Discoveries. A quick trolley ride transports you to the cobblestone district of Baixa. Or, if you choose, be lured away and pampered in the resort cities of Cascais and Estoril.

Described as a bare island bathed in sunlight, Mykonos is known for its immaculately whitewashed villages sprinkled with blue and jade green. It’s also famous for its sophisticated nightlife. The most popular island in the Cyclades is bustling with activity, awash in beautiful alleyways, and home to alluring sandy beaches.

The great Rock of Gibraltar is a sight to behold. Towering 1,400 feet above the mouth of the Mediterranean Sea and surrounded by beautiful countryside, it’s home to the semi-wild and curiously tailless Barbary apes and St. Michael’s Cave, long believed to be bottomless. SHORE EXCURSIONS INCLUDE: Upper Rock Walking Tour, Rock of Gibraltar, Panoramic Gibraltar & Tea

SHORE EXCURSIONS INCLUDE: Shopping in Istanbul, Ottoman Istanbul, Classical Istanbul

Nice (Villefranche), France

Located on the southern coast of Italy, Naples has spectacular scenery that attracts artists from around the world. From here, you can embark on a trip to the ruins of Pompeii. You may work up an appetite for one of Naples’ greatest contributions to western civilization — pizza — invented to honor the Queen of Italy in 1889.

The city of Nice is situated at the foot of the Alps. This jewel of the French Riviera is home to some of the world’s most luxurious hotels and terraced cafés. Stroll the ultra-famous Promenade des Anglais or see masterpieces by Matisse, Renoir, Monet, and Chagall in one of Nice’s many museums. Don’t forget to indulge in the onion, anchovy, and olive tarts, a local delicacy known as pissaladières.

Provence (Marseilles), France Marseilles is sometimes referred to as France’s “New Orleans” because of its uniqueness and independent personality. About twice the size of Paris, it’s an ancient city that currently has an active international scene. You’ll want to visit the Vieux-Port, the colorful old harbor. SHORE EXCURSIONS INCLUDE: Aix en Provence, Avignon & Wine Tasting at Palace of the Popes, Cassis, Arles & Les Baux

Rhodes, Greece

Rome (Civitavecchia), Italy

Rhodes, the friendliest city in the Mediterranean, is situated at the island’s northernmost point. Rhodes’ only neighbors to the east and west are gleaming blue seas. This sunny retreat is also home to many historic sites, such as the ruins of the Temple of Venus and the medieval Street of Knights.

Civitavecchia was settled in 108 A.D. by the Emperor Trajan and has since served faithfully as a gateway to the capital of the Empire — Rome. Once the center of the Ancient World from which emperors ruled over nearly all of western civilization, Rome is still a cultural mecca. Stroll the ancient halls of the Colosseum or gaze upon the ceilings of the Sistine Chapel.

Santorini, Greece

Seville (Cádiz), Spain

Sicily (Messina), Italy

Here on the island of Santorini, you’ll find whitewashed houses accented by sea-blue roofs. Among its many historic sites is the ancient city of Akrotiri, which was buried under a thick blanket of volcanic ash over 3,600 years ago.

From Cádiz you can easily get to Seville, exploring the old town with its quaint Moorish feel as well as its impressive monuments, pretty parks, and lovely architecture. Along the way, restore your energy at any of the mouth-watering tapas bars offering some of the country’s finest seafood and typical Andalusian cuisine.

Located in northeastern Sicily on the slopes of the Peloritani Mountains, Messina is an ancient place with a fascinating history. Walk by the ruins of the Santa Maria Alemanna Church, built in 1220 by the Teutonic Knights. You’ll also want to see the Duomo, a Romanesque and Norman cathedral that includes a display of artifacts in its treasury.

SHORE EXCURSIONS INCLUDE: Volcano Hot Springs, Exclusive Santorini, Pyrgos Village with Mesas & Wine, Village of Ola & Santorini Island

SHORE EXCURSIONS INCLUDE: Cádiz Walking Tour, Legendary Seville, Cádiz & Flamenco

SHORE EXCURSIONS INCLUDE: Mt. Etna, Lava & Wine, Tindari, Taormina

Ports of Call

Southampton, England

Split, Croatia

Tangier, Morocco

Situated on England’s south coast, Southampton enjoys one of the best climates in the U.K. You’ll find some of Britain’s most significant historical places of interest nearby, including Salisbury and Winchester cathedrals and prehistoric Stonehenge. Known as the “Gateway to the World,” it was from Southampton port that both the Mayflower and Titanic set sail.

Set midway up the Dalmatian Coast, this town is one of the jewels of the Adriatic. A few musts for any visit here include Diocletian’s palace, an incredibly wellpreserved stronghold that dates back to the 4th century, as well as the Prokurative, a neo-Renaissance complex defined by monumental arcades.

If you had to describe Tangier’s culture and cuisine in one word, it would probably be “diverse.” You’re likely to see a little bit of everything — from traditional open-air markets like the Grand Socco to worldfamous designer shops, cafés reminiscent of the 1930s to trendy discos, and windsurfers to tourists on camels.

SHORE EXCURSIONS INCLUDE: Dalmatian Coastline & Village Life, Historic Split Walking Tour, Best of Split & Its Countryside

SHORE EXCURSIONS INCLUDE: Tangier, Tetouan

Tunis, Tunisia

Valletta, Malta

Venice, Italy

Tunis is an intoxicating mixture of Arabic, African, and French European influences. No visit to Tunis would be complete without a visit to the souk — Arabic for market. This large, densely packed shopping center is home to goldsmiths, rug weavers, craftsmen, food stalls, performance artists, and much more. Nearby is the 9th-century Zitouna Mosque — or Great Mosque.

In addition to a number of highly significant works of art, including the largest painting ever produced by Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio, this town is known for the many fortifications built by the Knights of Malta, who for years helped care for European pilgrims and crusaders en route to and from the Holy Land.

One of the world’s most beautiful cities also happens to be one of its most unusual. Venice is actually spread over 120 islands in the Adriatic Sea. Because the city is connected by canals instead of streets, a good way to see Venice is on a romantic gondola ride. The epicenter of the city is St. Mark’s Square, where you’ll find the 900-year-old St. Mark’s Basilica.

SHORE EXCURSIONS INCLUDE: Bardo Museum, Medina & the Souks, Medina & Sidi Bou Said, Sidi & Carthage Bou Said

SHORE EXCURSIONS INCLUDE: Harbor Cruise & Shopping, Mdina & Historic Valletta, Swimming with Dolphins, Three Cities & Harbor Cruise

Barcelona, Spain

Madrid, Spain

Florence, Italy

Both visitors and locals alike enjoy trips to Las Ramblas, where you can admire the famous painter Miró’s work, and the Liceu Opera House, among other famous landmarks. Don’t miss the breathtaking cathedrals in the Gothic Quarter or the incomparable works of architect Antonio Gaudí and Pablo Picasso.

The city is known for its simple and delicious cuisine made from the freshest ingredients.

Mediterranean Cruisetour Destinations

Stresa, Italy

Rome, Italy

Verona, Italy

This small town is set on the shores of the crystal-clear Lago Maggiore. The scene from the piazza on the wharf is like few you’ve ever experienced. As the palm trees slowly sway in the afternoon breeze, you can gaze at the Italian Alps rising majestically in the distance, creating the perfect frame for the Borromean Islands, which sit in the foreground.

Centuries of breathtaking history have shaped the Eternal City. From the ancient halls of the Colosseum, where Roman gladiators once did battle, to Michelangelo’s opulent frescoed ceiling in the Sistine Chapel, the beautiful layers of Rome’s intricate past lead many to consider it Europe’s premier destination.

While Verona was once the center of the Roman Empire, what attracts romantic souls is a seemingly nondescript balcony at the Villa Capelletti. It is here that two young lovers named Romeo and Juliet allegedly professed eternal devotion.

Milan, Italy Despite a decidedly modern appearance, this mecca for fashion and the arts boasts a number of beautiful historic buildings, including the massive Gothic cathedral and La Scala Opera Museum in the heart of the city.

Venice, Italy This archipelago lives up to everything you’ve imagined. Enjoy a romantic ride along the charming Grand Canal to the Rialto, which is filled with quaint shops and bistros. From there, float on to San Marco, the city’s epicenter, where you’ll find St. Mark’s Square and the 900-yearold St. Mark’s Basilica.

Agadir, Morocco

Brest, France

Cartagena, Spain

Often referred to as the “Miami of Morocco,” Agadir is unlike any other city in the country. Almost totally rebuilt after the devastating earthquake of 1961, this oncequiet fishing port has developed into a major resort town. It features magnificent sandy beaches, over 300 days of sunshine a year, sophisticated hotels, dining, and a lively nightlife.

This city is thought by some to offer some of the best seafood restaurants in France. You’ll also find some of the country’s most dramatic coastal scenery, with long stretches of craggy coastline interrupted only by some of the nicest beaches to be found in this part of the country.

During the 16th and 17th centuries, when Spain held sway over the rest of Europe and the New World, much of its naval power was projected from the port of Cartagena. Many of the coastal fortifications from that era still exist, although instead of guarding the city they provide splendid views of the harbor.

SHORE EXCURSIONS INCLUDE: Brest Botanical Gardens, Brest Naval History

SHORE EXCURSIONS INCLUDE: Cartagena Walking Tour, Journey to Murica, Cartagena City Tour

Cornwall (Falmouth), England

Dover, England

SHORE EXCURSIONS INCLUDE: Agadir City Tour, Taroudant

Cape Liberty, New Jersey This cruise port, the first in New Jersey in 40 years, provides the perfect setting to the beginning or end of any voyage. From the vantage point of the deck you can look out over the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge, the Statue of Liberty, New York Harbor, and all of lower Manhattan.

Falmouth is Cornwall’s premier seaside resort. Its wide, sparkling beaches, warmed by the Gulf Stream, make it the preferred vacation destination for families in southwest England and beyond. It also boasts the third-largest natural harbor in the world. Other attractions include nearby Pendennis Castle, built by King Henry VIII to defend against the French army. Falmouth’s lively town center also features a charming array of craft shops, seafood restaurants, pubs, and more.

Cut by wind and sea over the past 100 million years, the White Cliffs of Dover stand as a symbol of England’s legendary strength and character. Among Dover’s attractions are the massive Dover Castle and the unique archeological site of the Roman Painted House, uncovered by a road crew in 1970, 28 feet underground. Fort Lauderdale, Florida

King’s Wharf, Bermuda

Those who think Fort Lauderdale stands in the shadow of Miami are in for a very pleasant surprise. The city has matured into a gracious destination with sophisticated cuisine, nightclubs, and a personality all its own. The restaurants and shopping along Las Olas Boulevard and Himmarshee alone offer proof that Fort Lauderdale has blossomed into something truly special, all while retaining its youthful spirit.

Perched on the tip of Bermuda’s West End, King’s Wharf is home to the impressive Royal Navy Dockyard and a crafts market, where local artists display their wares. In nearby Somerset Village, you’ll find the spectacle of the world’s smallest drawbridge, which opens a mere 22 inches, just wide enough to accommodate a sailboat’s mast.

SHORE EXCURSIONS INCLUDE: Everglades Airboat Ride (0ffered on Day of Disembarkation)

SHORE EXCURSIONS INCLUDE: Famous Homes & Hideaways Cruise, Bermuda Island Tour

La Palma, Canary Islands Natural beauty permeates La Palma, from the rugged mountainous interior to its rocky coasts and black sand beaches. Because La Palma is less of a tourist destination than its sister islands, you’ll have the endless sunshine all to yourself, although you will find a wealth of sightseeing and shopping possibilities in the lively capital, Santa Cruz. SHORE EXCURSIONS INCLUDE: Panoramic Santa Cruz, Caldera de Taburiente, Hiking La Palma Island

Ports of Call

Lanzarote, Canary Islands With its perfect weather, perfect beaches, and a lush landscape dotted with volcanoes and rare plant life, it’s easy to see why Lanzarote is fast becoming one of Europe’s favorite vacation destinations. You’ll want to sample the local cuisine, including tapas, paella and, of course, fresh seafood. SHORE EXCURSIONS INCLUDE: Panoramic Lanzarote, Camel Ride & Fire Mountain, Trekking on Moonscape

Madeira (Funchal), Portugal Funchal, the largest city on the Madeira island, is known as the “Floating Garden” because of its remarkable variety of vegetation, fruit, and flowers. Everywhere you’ll look you’ll find sprawling scenic splendor, from the deeply gouged cliffs to the lush verdant valleys reminiscent of parts of Hawaii. SHORE EXCURSIONS INCLUDE: City, Cable Car, Monte & Toboggan Ride, Scenic Madeira, Legendary Funchal Views

Málaga, Spain Málaga is the gateway to the Andalusian countryside and the Costa del Sol, where you can dig your toes into the sand of some of the region’s most impressive beaches. Málaga also boasts a number of impressive palaces, including the Moorish Alcabaza and Gibralfaro. Pablo Picasso was born here and several galleries show his work. SHORE EXCURSIONS INCLUDE: Alhambra Palace Gardens, Village of Mijas, Tapas Tasting in Málaga

Miami, Florida

Nassau, Bahamas

Philipsburg, St. Maarten

The beauty of South Beach’s art deco architecture and sparkling beaches are set against a rich backdrop provided by the Latin flavor of the Cuban émigré community. Come nightfall Miami doesn’t merely go out, it enthusiastically celebrates the onset of every evening with a passion that you’ll find contagious.

Long after you return home, you’ll continue to hear the sweet reverberations of Bahamian steel drums, their carefree melodies transporting you to a place where you’re perpetually on vacation. They’ll provide a constant and pleasant reminder of the sophisticated dining and shopping, as well as the shallow warm waters gently lapping at your feet.

St. Maarten has two sides — a French and a Dutch — and countless faces. You can stroll along the magnificent beaches for hours, spend just as long browsing through the endless French boutiques and duty-free shops, or visit sights like the cliffs and caves of Cupecoy Beach. This is an island that truly offers something for everyone.

Ponta Delgada, Azores

San Juan, Puerto Rico

Tenerife, Canary Islands

Formed from the peaks of a vast underwater volcanic mountain range, Ponta Delgada is considered by many to be the most important city in the Azores. Volcanic craters, gardens, and lakes abound in this beautiful city on the island of São Miguel. Experience a culinary delight in the sugar beet, Ponta Delgada’s most famous export.

While San Juan is a vibrant, modern port city, it also has one foot anchored proudly in the past, dating back to its time as a Spanish colonial outpost. Many of the old structures, including forts and cathedrals, date back to the early 16th century and the conquest by Juan Ponce de León in 1508.

The largest Canary Island is dominated by 12,198-foot Mount Teide. The cuisine features locally grown fruits (banana, mango, and papaya) and fresh fish. Clean, sandy beaches offer chances for windsurfing, surfing, snorkeling, and diving. You’ll find everything from lush vegetation to uninhibited nightlife in Tenerife.
