The city of Alta is a welcome oasis set amid lush, tree-covered hills and valleys in the otherwise harsh and desolate Finnmark landscape. Honningsvåg, Norway Located deep within the Land of the Midnight Sun, Honningsvåg is the northernmost town in Europe. And with more than 1,000 cruise ships calling during the summer season, it is also the largest and busiest cruise port in Northern Europe. This charming city is also home to the Ramsdal Museum, featuring one of Norway’s most impressive collections of folk art.
Much of this picturesque town, located at the tip of the Nordfjord, looks as though it is straight out of the 17th century. Its many historic sites include Olden Old Church, built in 1759 on the site of the original stave church dating back to the 14th century, and the Singer Home, former residence of the famous American painter William Singer. No fewer than 50 bridges connect this Swedish capital’s 14 islands to its mainland — undoubtedly so Swedes can enjoy every inch of this magnificent city. Visit the many parks, museums, and palaces — most famous, the 600-room Royal Palace. Make your way through Gamla Stan, or Old Town, packed with historic buildings, shops, and cafés.

Over 3,000 years ago, according to archeologists, fishermen settled this outpost, drawn by the bounty of the sea. Situated on England’s south coast, Southampton enjoys one of the best climates in the U.K. You’ll find some of Britain’s most significant historical places of interest nearby, including Salisbury and Winchester cathedrals and prehistoric Stonehenge. Known as the “Gateway to the World,” it was from Southampton port that both the Mayflower and Titanic set sail.
Set midway up the Dalmatian Coast, this town is one of the jewels of the Adriatic. A few musts for any visit here include Diocletian’s palace, an incredibly wellpreserved stronghold that dates back to the 4th century, as well as the Prokurative, a neo-Renaissance complex defined by monumental arcades.

Tunis is an intoxicating mixture of Arabic, African, and French European influences. No visit to Tunis would be complete without a visit to the souk — Arabic for market. This large, densely packed shopping center is home to goldsmiths, rug weavers, craftsmen, food stalls, performance artists, and much more. Nearby is the 9th-century Zitouna Mosque — or Great Mosque.
In addition to a number of highly significant works of art, including the largest painting ever produced by Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio, this town is known for the many fortifications built by the Knights of Malta, who for years helped care for European pilgrims and crusaders en route to and from the Holy Land.

Often referred to as the “Miami of Morocco,” Agadir is unlike any other city in the country. Almost totally rebuilt after the devastating earthquake of 1961, this oncequiet fishing port has developed into a major resort town.
