Camp Kintail Staff Contract Agreement NAME: _____________________________________________________________________ In accepting a position on the staff of Camp Kintail, I agree to the following terms of employment: Position Title: ________________________________ Rate of Pay: ______________ per day plus Room & Board CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT In accepting this position, I agree to the following conditions: 1. Documents required for employment: a. To submit all necessary documentation needed to become an employee of Camp Kintail, including staff application form, staff contract agreement, criminal record check, Social Insurance Number, and health form. b. That all documentation must be received by April 25th. c. To be responsible for my physical well being and to be in good health, and to bring a completed health form to camp verifying I am physically fit to perform my duties. d. To hold current qualifications as listed in the position description. e. To provide Camp Kintail with copies of my current swimming, first aid, and other relevant qualifications. 2. Payroll: a. Camp Kintail will provide room and board to all residential staff. Room and board is valued at $20/day. This amount will have already been deducted from any pay figure quoted to you. b. Vacation pay (4%) is included in the rate of pay. c. Pay will be issued once a month. Final pay cheques will be given out after a clearance of cleanliness & tidiness of that individual’s living and programme quarters. d. Contributions to the Canada Pension Plan and Employment Insurance will be deducted from your salary as required by law. Income tax will be deducted as directed by the appropriate documentation. e. That any expenses incurred at camp will be paid in full or be deducted from the staff member’s final pay. 3. Visitors:

a. That visitors may visit camp only with the prior approval of the Camp Director or her designate. Please note that visitors are allowed during staff members working time at camp only in exceptional situations and that any visitors must not disturb the daily routine of camp or jeopardize safety in any way. 4. Staff Possessions, Pets, and Vehicles: a. That Camp Kintail is not responsible for the loss or damage of staff members’ personal goods. b. That personal audio/visual equipment (including computers) is brought to camp only with the permission of the Camp Director and that its’ use in camp not disturb the daily programme. c. That extra equipment that is not required for job performance (Ex. Bicycles, weights, etc) is not brought to camp unless approval is received from the Camp Director and that the transportation of approved equipment is the responsibility of the staff member. d. That pets are brought to camp only with the prior permission of the Camp Director. e. That the camp will not assume any responsibility for staff vehicles. f. That staff vehicles be parked in areas designated by the Camp Director. 5. Staff Duties: a. To perform duties of assigned job/jobs as described in the position description. b. To recognize the flexible nature of camp staff positions and be prepared to do other duties as assigned. c. When unable to perform duties due to illness or injury to accept the direction of the Health Care Professional and/or Director for action required for recuperation (Ex. Rest, recuperation in Feathers, visit physician, go home to recuperate fully) 6. Use of Camp Equipment, Telephone, and Facilities: a. That only approved personnel will have access to camp vehicles, lawn mower, boat, canoes, or kayaks. b. That all personal staff calls be placed and received on the staff phone. All personal telephone calls made at camp must be made collect, charged to a third party or charged to a calling card number. Staff will not be called out of programme for calls except in the case of an emergency. c. That various areas of the camp may be designated by the Director or her designate off limits for purposes of safety, health regulations, or privacy. d. To work co-operatively with all staff to maintain living areas, programme areas, camp buildings, and general campsite in a clean, safe, and orderly condition. 7. Staff Training and Policies: a. To attend all pre-camp training sessions deemed necessary to qualify for the performance of the positions listed in the staff contract. b. To review all details of policies that will be further outlined in the staff manual and by the Camp Director during Staff Training including the Sexual Abuse and Sexual Harassment Policy, the Harassment Policy, and the Internet Use Policy. c. To project a clean and personable image, and to wear clothing appropriate to the job and the position as a positive role model for campers. d. To abide by the Code of Ethics and Behaviour as outlined in this agreement. CODE OF ETHICS AND BEHAVIOUR All staff members are expected: 1. Overall Behaviour: a. To actively participate in all aspects of the Camp Kintail Programme.

b. To give active and loyal support to Camp Kintail and its philosophies and objectives and abide by all camp regulations and policies. c. To meet all job requirements to the best of their ability. 2. Use of Alcohol, Non-Medical Drugs, and Tobacco a. To abstain from the possession or consumption of alcoholic beverages and non-medical drugs while at camp, in camp vehicles, or while carrying out camp duties. b. To abstain from the use of tobacco products while at camp, in camp vehicles, or while carrying out off sited duties for Camp Kintail. This expectation has been established to reflect the health and safety objectives of Camp Kintail in response to the proven health risks of first hand and second hand tobacco smoke and other use of tobacco products and the increased risk of fire. 3. Staff/Staff and Staff/Camper Relationships:  

a. To abide by the following guidelines for all relationships: If a camper, leadership participant, staff member, or volunteer is hurt, harassed, or bullied by will or neglect by a staff member, that staff member will be released from their contract immediately. This refers to any physical, emotional, or sexual abuse or harassment. If you have knowledge of any abuse or harassment, it is your responsibility to report it to the Camp Director. You will be released from your contract if you fail to do so. b. To abide by the following guidelines for staff/staff relationships: We encourage the development of friendships amongst staff members and recognize the development of lasting relationships beyond camp as an important element of personal growth. Staff members are expected to refrain from relationships with other staff which negatively affect the job performance of themselves or other staff members. Intimate staff relationships can easily disrupt positive group development and effectiveness in working with campers. For this reason we discourage the development or display of exclusive intimate relationships between camp staff and expect that existing relationships of this kind be dealt with in a mature, adult manner that is non-disruptive to the camp life and atmosphere. It is understood that no sexual relations are permitted during camp related activities at camp or on out-trips. No sexual intercourse is permitted on site between unmarried people. All staff are expected to abide by the provisions of the Human Rights Code of Ontario when dealing with other staff members or campers. c.

 



To abide by the following guidelines for staff/camper relationships ( the term camper includes participants of the leadership programmes, LITs, and Volunteers of Kintail): Staff/camper relationships beyond friendship or any actions by staff which would lead a camper to believe that such a relationship is intended are not permitted in or out of camp for the term of employment. Staff members will not talk or communicate (email, text, facebook) the following to any campers: personal issues of sexuality, alcohol consumption, parties, drug use, personal matters or confidences, issues or concerns with other campers, staff members, Camp Director, or Camp Board, and other issues that seem inappropriate or unprofessional for a camper to be involved with. It is the responsibility of staff to ensure that campers are safe from any violations of these guidelines and codes. d. To act in a supportive and professional manner when working with staff members, visitors, and campers when using the camp phone, representing the camp, or wearing clothing which designates the staff member as a Camp Kintail staff.

Safety: a. To wear a fully secured PFD (personal flotation device) at all times in all boats at camp and on outtrips. b. To enforce this PFD policy or other policies affecting safety with campers and other staff. c. To follow accepted safety practices and procedure in the use of all equipment and in all activities while in the employment of Camp Kintail in personal actions and with campers at all times. d. That camper supervision is undertaken in accordance to guidelines in the staff manual, as outlined in staff training, and as required through the “Leading with Care” Policy.

5. Time Off: a. To refrain from any activity on time off which will reflect in a negative way on the camp or other staff of these facilities and refrain from activities which contravene the existing laws of The Province of Ontario or The Government of Canada. b. To return from time off in a condition to perform all aspects of your job. c. That all staff, unless assigned by the Camp Director, are responsible to leave the camp site from 1pm Saturday afternoons until 1pm Sunday afternoons unless prior arrangements are made with the Camp Director or her designate to remain on camp property. 6. The Environment: a. To respect the natural environment of the camp and on out-trips and to their utmost to preserve and protect this environment. 7. Termination & Resignation Policy a. A staff member who engages in actions which are contrary to this code of ethics and behaviour or does not meet the conditions of employment faces discipline procedures at the discretion of the Camp Director. b. The steps of the discipline procedure will be a verbal reminder, a written reminder, a short suspension, and finally, dismissal. c. In the case of gross misconduct, dismissal will be immediate and the staff member required to vacate the property of Camp Kintail. The camp is not responsible for any transportation cost incurred by a staff member as a result of his/her dismissal. If you are under 18, your parents will be informed of your dismissal. d. Any camp staff person who feels they have not received fair treatment in relation to the terms and procedures of the staff agreement or the personnel policies and practices may, after having informed the Camp Director in writing, apply to the Camp Kintail Board for a hearing of their concerns. This procedure may be initiated by a telephone call or letter to the Camp Kintail Board Convenor. e. If any staff member chooses to resign their position, they must give the Camp Director two weeks notice and salary will be paid for the days worked. Resignation based on inconsistency with the camp’s philosophy, leadership, or direction will terminate the contract immediately. In Consideration of Staff Member’s Performance, Camp Kintail Agrees To: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6.

Provide room and board at no charge to staff. Provide remuneration according to the terms of employment. Provide appropriate liability insurance coverage for all staff while acting on behalf of Camp Kintail. Provide a training weekend and pre-camp training week, prior to the camp programme for all summer staff. Endeavour to provide additional training opportunities for staff based on availability and funding. Provide staff with the equivalent of one day off per week of employment and one in-camp evening off-duty every two weeks of employment. 7. Provide staff with an in-camp break at some point during each day.

8. Provide on-going support and supervision during the camp season. 9. Have a staff development meeting with each staff member at the beginning of camp and at about the midpoint of camp and provide a verbal and written performance evaluation at the end of the term of employment. 10. Provide opportunities for staff to express any concerns or grievances. 11. Make staff aware of grievance procedures and termination procedures during training week. This employment agreement is contingent on the viability of Camp Kintail to operate as a Summer Camp. This contingency is to allow for any full or partial unplanned interruption of service to occur due to situations outside the control of Camp Kintail that make the site inoperative such as: health reasons, lack of program enrolment, natural disaster, or other unforeseen circumstances.

This contingency is to allow for any full or partial unplanned interruption of service to occur due to situations outside the control of Camp Kintail that make the site inoperative such as: health reasons, lack of programme enrollment, natural disaster, or other unforeseen circumstances. It is the responsibility of all staff members of Camp Kintail to follow this contract, enforce this contract, and report breeches of this contract.
