Thank you for expressing an interest in becoming a part of our Christian staff at Camp Como. Camp Como provides a great opportunity for you to live out a real concern for God’s people and all of creation. It is also an opportunity to develop many lasting friendships with others who have an enthusiasm and joy for Christian camping. This experience will help you to develop a deeper expression of your faith in God. If you are selected from the many who apply each year, the summer’s work will probably be the hardest, but also the most challenging and rewarding that you have ever had! The following are job opportunities available in our camping ministry at Camp Como. Brief job descriptions have been included that will give you an idea of the responsibilities associated with each position. FLOAT: Has the widest variety of jobs and will have a constant change of activities. There are three teams of floats consisting of six people each. Each team rotates weekly into a different camp role. Two weeks consist of working with Adventure Programming and some maintenance and grounds work whereas the third week consists of working in the Dining Hall and being a Core Counselor to teenagers. If you like variety and want to experience all that Camp Como offers for Summer Staff, then we would love to have you on our team. SUMMER SECRETARY: Responsible for a variety of office duties including, but not limited to: posting camper fees and organizing forms, assigning cabins, camper check-in and check-out, creating and distributing reports to various personnel, retail sales and deposits. Good communication skills are required as is the ability to provide a welcoming atmosphere in Camp Como’s Office. ALL personnel must be able to attend the pre-camp staff training period, beginning May 23, 2016 at 8:00 a.m. A full summer contract will end on August 6th while a half summer contract ends on July 2nd. First year summer staff will receive $175/week and second year summer staff will receive $190/week. Room, board, worker’s compensation insurance and staff training are benefits in addition to salary. If you are interested in serving as a Camp Como staff member for the summer of 2016, please complete the attached staff application and return it via mail, email or fax. Three references are required for all applications and you are responsible for initiating them. Complete the top portion by printing and signing your name and circling the position you are applying for on the forms, send the forms to the references listed on your application, and then have them send the form directly to Camp Como, no later than March 7, 2016. Information Page Staff is responsible for their transportation to Colorado. If you arrive via plane, bus or train and need transportation from Denver or Colorado Springs to Camp Como, advance arrangements must be made. All staff is expected to fulfill their summer commitment. All staff is expected to give whole-hearted involvement in all job assigned phases of the Camp Como program. Each staff member will receive between 24-48 hours off each week. Summer resident staff must have a current health history and examination record completed by a Physician or Nurse Practitioner prior to your arrival at Camp Como. A Staff Registration form will be completed during staff training. References are checked. Social Services require Child Abuse reporting signatures and registration with the Colorado Central Registry. Fingerprinting guidelines are followed per Colorado regulations. During the summer months, all of our staff take turns sharing in devotional thoughts. Bring some good devotional books for your personal private time. You are encouraged to maintain your spiritual life. Your personal discipline is KEY. The busy summer activities may not allow each staff member to attend a formal church service every week. Staff will be rotated as needed. Extended guest visits may be a hindrance to your job responsibilities. Arrangements for guests or visitors need to be made in advance with your immediate supervisor. There is no Wi-Fi. Internet usage is available on a limited, rotational basis. Tobacco, marijuana, alcohol and illegal drugs are NOT permitted at Camp Como. The consequence of possession or use is dismissal. Prescription medication is allowed, but must be disclosed on the Health Assessment Form. All Camp Como staff are expected to be neat, clean and modestly dressed as we are role models for the campers. Questionable clothing, jewelry or hairstyles will be addressed and expected to be changed. ALL types of vehicles must be respected and safety procedures must be followed. Guidelines for vehicle use will be discussed. Personal vehicles are acceptable. Camp Como is located at 10,125 feet elevation. Higher elevation brings cooler temperatures. Snow is a possibility in any month. Summer rains can be cool. Appropriate clothing and walking attire are advisable for mountain living.
