By Tom & Vi Brown After an inauspicious beginning (the tragic death of his older brother Mantel, who held the #2 spot for eleven months before his death at 23-months and the near death of his mother, CH Bernegarden’s Payback, CD RA [Becky] from a badly managed cesarean), Kilo has led a charmed life. He took his first two Best of Breeds at nine months, and was “discovered” by Jack Terrio at the Pacific Coast Specialty, where he received Best Puppy, Winners Dog, Best of Winners and Best of Breed at eleven months. The initiation of the AKC Grand Championship coincided with three back-to-back West Coast weekends that included eight all-breed shows and two Saint specialty shows, which allowed Kilo to achieve the necessary points to be designated the first Saint Bernard Grand Champion on May 30, 2010. Kilo’s winning ways have continued through the end of June 2010 and he has now taken 290 Best of Breeds and 34 Best Opposites (including 43 Saint specialties), 45 Group placements, two Best in all-breed shows, and Best of Breed at Westminster 2010. Kilo (as of the May 30, 2010 report) was the only dog in the top 50 Working Group to have a CD as well as being the only one of the top 25 Saints with this obedience title. We firmly believe that dogs should have titles at both ends. Kilo comes from at least four generations of all champions and, in addition, the American dogs in the pedigree have Hall of Fame credentials. Kilo is passing on his gene line; he now has seven champion get in the U.S. and in Europe. One, CH Subira’s Alucian RN, recently won two Best of Breeds at two years of age. Since 2006, Kilo has been handled and trained by Bill Buell and Erin Hines. They have trained him to love the show ring, which is obvious every time he appears. We are forever indebted to Skee and Shirley Tsagris, who found Kilo’s mother while visiting Britt Halverson and brought her home to us. They also bred her to their champion Kings Row Double or Nuthin. Bob Bonito Esq. has assumed some of the expense of showing a dog every week and owns one of Kilo’s champion get.

First Saint Bernard to Earn The Grand Champion Title May 30, 2010
St. Bernard Club of America, Inc. Dear Parent Club Officer or Delegate, We wanted to extend our congratulations on your breed’s first ever AKC Grand Champion, GCH CH Alta Vista’s Billion Kilowatt CD RN, who earned the title on May 30, 2010 to become the first ever Grand Champion in your breed. This new title is available to AKC Champions of Record, creating the opportunity for Champion dog owners to return to the show ring with their dogs and further showcase the quality of their breeding stock. Competition for this new title began at AKC all-breed, group and specialty shows on May 12, 2010, concurrent with the implementation of the 2010-2011 AKC Point Schedule. The AKC Electronic Reports Department offers a variety of competition results reports with special pricing for all parent clubs.
