Report Cards

We are currently in the process of finalising our end of semester Report Cards. These Report Cards will provide families with information on the progress and achievement of their children within each of the Learning Areas covered throughout the semester. This semester’s reports indicate your child’s progress in the three areas of ACHIEVEMENT, EFFORT and BEHAVIOUR. They will also include comments which will provide further information on the content covered. The total number of ‘Days Absent’ are shown on the reports along with the number of ‘Unexplained Absences’. Our School target is 94% attendance from every student (this equates to around no more than 3 days absent per Term). Our aim again this year is to bring our Unexplained Absences down. To achieve this all we require is a phone call, email or note informing us of your child’s absence. We are very aware that there will be times when absences are unavoidable due to illness or other events and will work with families during these times. Report Cards will be issued on Wednesday June 22. Students going on leave early can make arrangements to have their report cards emailed June 22. Report cards will not be issued

STOP DROP GO Zone Reminder that there is a maximum of 5 mins parking in this area. It is important that cars do not sit in this zone for longer than this, because it stops other parents from collecting their children in a timely manner. Thanks for your consideration.

Uniforms Please be aware the school’s uniform is a bottle green polo shirt with a yellow trim and black shorts. Girls also have the option of wearing a pleated skirt or skort. All the uniforms are available from the uniform shop or through Flexischool. With the cooler days now here, our winter uniform is black track pants with either a green track top or a school jumper. The fleecy school jumper is available from the uniform shop for $27.50. JEANS and HOODIES are NOT permitted under any circumstances. Students who attend school wearing a hoodie will have them removed and if it is cold a parent/carer will be contacted to bring a suitable green jumper. Please make sure your child’s coats and tracksuit pants are labelled with their name. Every year at this time, our Lost Property box is filled with unnamed winter woollies! Also with the cold weather children often feel quite hungry and need a little extra food packed in their lunchbox. Check with your child to see they would like you to pack something extra for them to eat.

HEAD LICE VIGILANCE

Head lice are a very common problem in schools everywhere in the world. While they are not a threat to health and do not transmit diseases, they do cause a lot of distress and anxiety for families and schools. Anyone can get head lice. They affect all socioeconomic groups and are not a sign of poor hygiene. They have no preference for ethnic background, hair colour, hair type or age. The School would like to ask all parents/ caregivers to please constantly check and treat your child’s hair for head lice. After initial treatment, check daily using conditioner and a lice comb for at least a week. Up-to-date information is available at the Qld Health website www.health.qld.gov.au/headlice

Athletics Carnival 2016 The 2016 Athletics Carnival was held on May 16th and 17th. Students aged 9-12 years showed excellent sportsmanship competing together on the Monday. There was great encouragement given to all competitors, I was thoroughly impressed with war cries, decorations and individual shout outs. That is what makes a successful athletics carnival! Mitchell House was awarded the House Spirit trophy, achieved for their continuous cheers, excellent decorations and team spirit. This house spirit also saw Mitchell House achieve winning house on the day with points tallying 530. Gregory House came 2nd with 502, followed by a close 3rd from Leichardt on 500. The following day Prep to Year 3 had a great morning participating in a variety of athletic events including high jump, long jump, vortex throws, ball games, relays and of course their individual sprints. The Year 6 leaders of the school did a wonderful job leading the students through the activities and handing out the numerous stickers that were collected on the day. A great morning was had by all.
