A WORD FROM OUR FOUNDER

MAJOR ACCOMPLISHENTS

Dear Donors, Supporters, Family and Friends,

Our goal as an advocate for organ and tissue donation is to inspire individuals to make the decision to give. Our impact is measured by the following results:

This year marks the 10 year anniversary of Summit for Life, our flagship program designed to educate and spread awareness of our mission to help save lives through organ and tissue transplantation. It also marks the 2nd year we recognized individuals with our Bounce Back Award, earned by demonstrating the quality of life you can have after receiving the gift of life. These programs help us inspire donation registration as we share the stories of individuals and families impacted by the generosity of donors they will never know. It has been more than 13 years since my lifesaving liver transplant. This single gift enabled me to raise a family of my own, and continues to inspire me to convince others to register as organ and tissue donors. Transplantation needs are growing and there are over 121,000 people waiting in the United States today. One donor can save eight lives, and benefit 50 people through organ and tissue donation. This year we launched our Founder’s Circle to recognize significant and long-time donors to our cause. We look forward to honoring more people each year as we work together to make a difference. Sincerely,

Chris Klug Founder, Chairman of the Board

 Our educational video, Know the Facts, Share Your Decision, features stories from transplant recipients and donor families, highlighting the importance of making an informed decision and the value of sharing and registering that decision.  We have distributed over 3,300 (and counting!) educational curriculums to driving schools, health education teachers, and transplant donor advocates in all 50 US States, and internationally in the Bahamas, Canada, China, the Dominican Republic, Trinidad & Tobago, the United Kingdom and Venezuela.  We have educated over 100,000 people regarding the benefits and need for organ and tissue donor registration.  We participate in more than 50 annual events to educate youth and promote donor registration to over 40,000 attendees each year.  We host on-campus DONOR DUDES educational programs at hundreds of schools, colleges and universities annually.  We host the annual Bounce Back Award, presented by Astellas, which recognizes individuals who exemplify the quality of life that can be achieved after transplantation, through their volunteerism and advocacy for our mission.

OUR IMPACT Each year we expand our programs, spreading the message of needed organ & tissue donation to thousands of young people across the United States and Canada. Our success has led us beyond North America to include several international users of our informative video and educational package. Know the Facts, Share your Decision, is an effective way to educate thousands of students about donor registration. Teachers and instructors using the video describe it as a simple tool with great impact. We have distributed over 3,300 copies to date. In 2015 we increased our participation at national events hosted by other organizations and held more of our own Donor Dudes campus events. In winter we participate in the Vans Warped Tour, and the ESPN Winter X Games. The summer season includes the USA Pro Cycling Challenge, the Leadville 100, and the NYC Marathon. These events allow us to feature our programs, expand awareness for the cause, and encourage young adults to register as organ and tissue donors. th

The 10 Annual Aspen Summit for Life, our flagship awareness and fundraising event, continues to grow year after year, with soldout participation generating over $200,000 in contributions in 2015 alone. S4L includes transplant recipients who inspire the participants to succeed in this uphill challenge. Donors and donor families share their stories to honor the gift of life.

ABOUT US Thank you to Astellas for sponsoring our annual BOUNCE BACK AWARD, created to recognize inspirational transplant recipients.

The Chris Klug Foundation is dedicated to eliminating the wait for those on the transplant list by increasing awareness and sharing the facts about donation.

2016 Winner Edward Drake, of Columbus, OH, started Youth Needing Organ and Tissue Transplants (YNOTT), while waiting for his kidney transplant. The YNOTT foundation is dedicated to raising awareness, educating youth on healthy living habits, and assisting young transplant recipients emotionally and financially. Edward is dedicated to maintaining a healthy, active lifestyle and has participated in the Transplant Games of America in track and field.

Our mission is to improve the lives of organ transplant candidates and their families by promoting lifesaving donation, expanding awareness of needs and increasing registration of donors on the state and national registries. We strive to inspire the gift of life by sharing stories from those given a second chance.

2016 Winner Lea Sobieraski, of Lockport, NY, was diagnosed with Wilson's disease at age 20. She was captain of the SUNY Geneseo women's basketball team. Her health quickly deteriorated and she needed a lifesaving liver transplant just four months after her diagnosis. Posttransplant, Lea reenrolled in college and continues to play on the women's basketball team. The team made it to the NCAA Sweet 16 Division III Championships, and Lea was named to the NCAA's Good Works Team. This spring, Lea registered more than 50 organ donors on her campus, and will also give the commencement speech at a local high school. We are proud to announce that we used over 80% of donated dollars to support our programs and mission this year. Annually increasing revenue enables us to expand programs and maintain sufficient reserves to ensure financial sustainability.

Our programs and services are made possible by financial support through individual and corporate gifts. The Facts. A donor can impact the lives of 50 people, and save the lives of 8! There are more than 121,000 people in the US waiting for life-saving transplants. Every 10 minutes another name is added to the list. Every day on average 84 people receive life-saving transplantation. Every day on average 21 people don’t.

You can make a difference. Help us save lives by reducing or eliminating the wait for organ and tissue transplants. Over 90% of US adults would like to be organ or tissue donors.

Meet the Winners of the

Bounce Back Award presented by

But only 52% of US adults are registered. Make a difference. Our goal is to increase registration to 75% nationwide by expanding awareness and education. We have only begun to make a difference. With your help, we will continue to save more lives by eliminating the wait for organ and tissue donation. 2015 Award recipients Edward Drake and Lea Sobieraski
