RSL. We really appreciate your generosity and involvement with our school.

School context statement Kangaloon Public School is a close-knit rural school where our students, their families and the local community are welcomed, valued and respected. The school currently has an enrolment of 30 students and features two multi-stage classes. The dedicated, cohesive and experienced staff focuses on maximising learning outcomes for all students by delivering quality teaching and learning programs and the promotion of student wellbeing. They are actively supported by the local community and Parents and Citizens’ Association (P&C).

When we look back at our year and celebrate our achievements we think about the amazing experiences that we have had; fantastic excursions to Minumurra, Canberra, the Bike Safety Park and the beach. We have had amazing visitors to our school such as Fizzics Ed, development officers from a wide variety of sports and the Forrestville Band. The children have experienced wonderful cultural experiences like Oz Opera, Musica Viva and our entertaining Kangaloon’s Gat Talent and the Wizard of Oz performances. We have held moving ceremonies that commemorated ANZAC Day, VP Day and Remembrance Day. This year we celebrated Education Week with a wonderful Lego fun day. Kangaloon has provided a fantastic range of sporting events; carnivals, Gala Days School Knockout competitions, gymnastics and Swimming.

Principal’s message In 2014 our focus was on each of our students as individuals. We talked with the children and met with their parents to design personalised learning plans for each student. We attended training and development aimed at supporting these plans and, as a result, have seen all of the children exceed our expectations for them. All of the children have demonstrated excellent improvement.

None of these activities and experiences would be possible with the wonderful efforts of our staff and parents and the fantastic motivation, enthusiasm and participation of our students. You have all done an amazing job this year and should be very proud of your efforts.

Our children have a strong sense of ownership of our school. Earlier this year they responded to survey questions about what was important to them about school. All of them indicated that it was important to come to school to learn and all of them said that it was important to look after each other. Often our students articulate our school values of kindness and cooperation. They speak about how important it is for the big kids to look after the little kids and about how they love coming to Kangaloon School.

What a year! What a school!

Kangaloon School successfully provides outstanding opportunities for our children because of the talents and dedication of our teachers, parents and community members. There are many other people who contribute to the running of our school. Parents who help out with canteen, banking, fundraising, transport, soup days, the garden and co-op, craft and music. I would also like to acknowledge the ongoing support of Mr Stephen Spence and the Mittagong

plastic blinds under the COLA and donated money to the school for books and apps for the ipads.

P & C message 2014 has been an exceptional year at Kangaloon Public School. This year our executive committee consisted of Charlotte as the Vice President, Laura as the treasurer and Carmel as the secretary. All of the executive members did an outstanding job and I would like to thank them for their wonderful efforts.

I would like to thank the staff for their wonderful efforts this year. Our children are very lucky to have you as their teachers.

Carmel and Annie organised the KO Angus Bull Sale fundraising day. Records show it was our most profitable so far. I would like to thank Theo Onisforou for his ongoing support and generosity to our school. We are lucky to have so many other committee members that are always there to help out when needed. So a big thanks to you all. Another major fundraising event we held this year was the Garden Day. This event just keeps getting better every year. I would like to thank the Historic Garden Society, Southern Highlands Branch for working with us to make this a successful day. Also, thank you to the very kind and generous garden owners; we certainly couldn’t do this without them. The feedback we have received is so positive; I hope that we can keep finding new gardens every year.

Student representative’s message This year Kangaloon Public School had a great year learning, competing and most of all having fun. The start of 2014 was fabulous. All the kids came back or started school with smiles on their faces. The year started with our traditional swimming carnival at Bundunoon swimming pool. Next came along the Bong Bong swimming carnival where all the students tried their hardest but unfortunately didn’t make it to the district carnival. Scott and Jake from the NRL came every term to teach us the rules and some tips on how to play Rugby League. We also went on an excursion to Minimurra Rainforest. The school went on a bush walk and talked about all types of animals, trees and plants that are found in the rainforest. We had a fantastic day. Next, of course, it was the Robertson Show and this year it was sunny. When we got there we first went around and looked at all the stands and everything that was there. Then our school joined

The catering committee headed up by Harriet and Matt came together again for the annual Cricket Gala Day in September. It was a fantastic day again and another personal best in the amount of funds raised. Well done everyone. We the committee could not be a success if it weren’t for these amazing people. Our small school P & C raised almost $9000.00 this year. This money has been raised for our children. We are currently saving for a soft fall area to be installed under the COLA to keep the children safe and warmer during the winter months. We have made a large donation to the Kangaloon Hall this year. We have a very close relationship with the hall and would not be able to give our children as many activities and experiences if the hall wasn’t there. We have also paid for a security screen on the Primary Class window, repaired the

other schools to do the Spud Olympics on the oval. All the students had a fun day. On clean up Australia Day our school took part in cleaning up Australia. The little class stayed at school and cleaned up the playground while the big class cleaned up the side of the road.

Memorial. We put a poppy next to some soldiers’ names. The children had a great day. The book week celebration was really good this year. All the children dressed up in really good costumes. Batman even visited. Later that term the students got to show parents their gymnastics, skipping and work. The children were all tired from all the skipping. Term three was exciting and fun for everyone.

In Term 2 we learned about the Roman Empire. The children had fun learning about Rome and even had a Roman Feast with lots of food. We had our District Cross Country. Paddy and Charles competed in their races but unfortunately they did not make it to the next level. The Bong Bong Athletics was a brilliant day and all the kids tried really hard. Also this term we learnt about road safety and even went on an excursion to Campbelltown where we rode bikes and learnt how to look after a bike. Kangaloon went to see Musica Viva at Exeter Public School. The children liked seeing the different instruments and music. This year Kangaloon’s Got Talent was the best ever, with magic, jokes and a wedding.

Term 4 started off with the Wizard of OZ. All of the children acted and had fun as munchkin’s wizards, lions and a very scary witch. It was a great evening. SHYAC’s ‘Willow Blues’ was a great performance and all the kids loved it. The Year 5 and 6 children went to Morisset camp. There they learnt skills and had a lot of fun. Later in the spring the children went swimming for two weeks. At our excursion to Warilla beach the children learnt how to spot rips and how to be safe in the water. We were also fortunate enough to get to see the Forestville band. The children from Forestville also stayed for a sausage sandwich and had some watermelon and had one of Mrs Dunn’s yummy cupcakes. To end the year the children had a presentation night. The children performed and got certificates. Later in the evening Santa came and all the kids got books.

Term 3 started off with the District Athletics Carnival. Charles, Nathan, Henry and Jordan competed in the PP5 relay. It was a breath taking run. Darcey also ran the 100 metres sprint and Henry did high jump. He flew like a bird. We also competed in the small schools touch footy knockout. We played Captain’s Flat Public School, but unfortunately we lost 10 to 9. The Cricket Gala Day was a very fun day with parents helping with canteen. At the end of the day the students had a catching comp and met with cricket stars Shane Watson, Moses Hendricks and Nic Maddison. Next, some of the students competed in the English and Maths competitions and all the students got good results. Later in the term Mrs Dunn organised a Lego fun day for Education Week. The children did lots of Lego activities. We dressed in bright colours and had a great day. We also went to Canberra and saw Parliament House, the Museum of Democracy and the War

2014 was a great year.
