United States Customs and Border Protection (USCBP) The airport has special security just for people travelling to the US. These officers work hard to make sure your plane is as safe as it could be. When you are standing in the big room, look around. Can you see three bears? Can you see mountains? Did you know there is a rabbit on that big painting? Can you find him? The artist is Jason Carter - from Edmonton!

Arriving at EIA from another country When your plane arrives at EIA from another country you get to walk down a fun hallway! There are lights on a big long screen that move when YOU walk down the corridor! You make the lights move. It’s fun for kids and grown ups! The art is created by a group called Electroland. Can you find your way through the maze of lights?

Solar Panels

The apron is the whole area next to the airport building outside that all the planes park on. More planes can park next to the airport now because there are 9 new bridges which are like parking spots for planes!

Did you know that there are panels on the roof that absorb sunlight and turns it into energy to heat the water used in the airport to energize the airport! Isn’t that smart?! Just like the airport, all the rooms in your house can be powered by the sun too! Check out the drawing below to find out how solar panels can energize YOUR bedroom, living room, and even basement.

Summer Washroom: The new washrooms with deep green painted walls are themed to Summer. Outside the washroom it looks like a little park area with a wood bench and pretend trees on the glass.

You can fly to over 50 places from Edmonton without stopping anywhere else!

Each year, about 1,000 animals, mainly cats and dogs, are moved through EIA on special cargo planes.

Can you find all of the non-stop destinations listed below in the word search? Circle each letter individually as shown. When you have found all of the non-stops, the remaining letters will form a secret message!

Most of the animals are puppies and kittens often just weeks old. Occasionally, more exotic animals like reptiles and ostriches are also transported on planes.

Arts District Corridor If you are travelling to the US, after your family visits the officer in the US Customs area, you will walk down a long hall. There’s a brand new moving sidewalk and a big picture of downtown Edmonton made out of tile! It is called Everything Flows, Nothing Stands Still. In that tile art can you also see some secret items: Red Lego brick Broken dish piece Pyramid shapes? A yellow tile (represents the Butterdome)

Living Wall What is a living wall? It is a whole wall made up of lots of fabric pockets. Inside each pocket is a plant. The plants clean the air that the people breathe and everyone enjoys seeing the beautiful wall of plants. This is the VERY FIRST living wall ever to be installed inside an airport terminal anywhere in the world! 1

In the US Departures Lounge area you can see a big copper art sculpture sticking out of the floor. You are allowed to sit on the seats there (if your mom or dad says it is okay).

There is a brand new air traffic control area at EIA built onto a brand new tower! The new tower is built much closer to the runways so the controllers can see the planes easily! The air traffic controllers tell the planes when to take off and where to park when they arrive at EIA! The outside of the tower looks like winter snow drifts.

Family Food & Beverage at EIA You can get a whole meal or a snack in the food court! There are 61 restaurants, shops and services in the airport! Can you help the giraffe find all the words below?

Common Use Lounge The Common Use Lounge is a special area for grownups, little kids, teenagers – everybody! There are two at EIA (one in the US Departures Lounge and one in the Domestic-International Departures Lounge). Your family can pay for you to eat food, use the internet (wi-fi) and just relax while you wait for your plane!

XBOX Gaming Centre There is a special place you can play video games in the US Departures Lounge while you wait for your plane. It is by gate 84. There is also an arcade by gate 49 in the Domestic-International Departures Lounge.

Remove plastic bags containing liquid items from your carry-on and place them in the tray provided. Remove laptop computers, video cameras, and cameras from their carry-on cases and place them in the tray provided. Can you spot 10 differences?

New Carpets

Children’s Play Areas There are four play areas at EIA built just for kids! Climb on the pretend suitcases, sit on the little plane, do the puzzles, pretend you are flying! Your mom and dad can sit on the bench inside the play area and watch you!

The carpets are specially designed just for EIA. You will never see the carpet pattern anywhere else. The pattern comes from shapes you would find in a Boreal Forest. Which two carpets below are exactly the same?

RCMP at EIA

Family Services

Did you know that EIA has its very own Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) officers that work at the airport to keep you safe? Pretty cool isn’t it?! They even have their own police station right here at EIA!

Nurseries equipped with change tables and nursing chairs are located after security in the Departures Lounge. All of the washrooms at EIA are equipped with changing tables.

EIA is also home to a police dog called Bolt! He is a German Shepherd. Bolt loved police dog training school! He’s so smart, he finished in a record 30 days!
