a sustainable material cycle is a matter of importance to the Wirtgen group, and the subject of sustainability is firmly anchored in all company processes. concern for the environment plays a very important part even in the development and engineering design phases of Wirtgen group products: it pervades all stages of the production chain, right up to use of the machines in worldwide projects. We know that the future belongs to products that preserve our climate. and we are already building those products.

The future belongs to technologies and processes that help to protect our climate. Even today, machines built by the Wirtgen Group stand for environmentally compatible and at the same time economical and efficient solutions in road construction, when mining and processing pay minerals, and when recycling construction materials. Our products stand for maximum sustainability both when building new roads and when rehabilitating existing roads. Total reuse of high-quality construction materials is at the forefront of our road repair technologies. At the same time, we never lose sight of quality and cost-efficiency. When it comes to extracting high-grade pay minerals, our processes offer economical and ecological solutions for the selective mining of every kind of mineral. Our mobile plants also help to save resources when processing natural stone and in the recycling sector.

WIRTGEN GROUP MINERAL TECHNOLOGIES
Wirtgen Surface Mining As pioneers of surface mining technology, we have steadily improved the environmental compatibility of mining pay minerals since the 1980s. Unlike the conventional method, this innovative technology makes drilling and blasting unnecessary. Surface miners cut, crush and load the extracted mineral in a single pass.

for construction machines built by the Wirtgen group, simply complying with the applicable emission standards is not good enough by far. We are working continuously to enhance the machine technology of the four strong brands Wirtgen, Vögele, hamm and Kleemann, setting our sights on eco-friendly technical solutions even in the engineering design phase. With the aid of intelligent control systems and clever automatic functions, Wirtgen group machines combine maximum productivity with low fuel consumption and minimum emissions.

The Wirtgen Group’s German headquarters are among the most modern factories in the world. Environmentally friendly tech nologies and carefully coordinated production processes ensure efficient operation without wasting resources. Waste heat is used to heat the factory halls and offices, thus the usage of external energy sources is reduced. High-speed gates which only remain open for a very short time additionally save heat in the halls. Closed water cycles reduce the need for fresh water; low-pollutant cracking systems remove impurities from the wastewater and return the purified water to the halls. Wastewater which cannot be treated is disposed of without harming the environment. Retention basins safeguard adjacent bodies of water. We have reduced our emissions by around 90 percent by switching from a wet paint-coating process to solvent-free powder coating. We have also dispensed with wet chemical pretreatment. Components are now cleaned by powerful blasting systems prior to coating. We aim to minimize distances – our suppliers are located in the immediate vicinity of our factories wherever possible. Machines and spare parts are preferably shipped by rail, inland waterway or ocean freight, reducing our CO2 emissions.

your long-term success using road construction machines built by the Wirtgen group is a prime concern to us. Qualified operator training and the know-how needed to maintain and service the machines are essential prerequisites to ensuring optimum use of the machines in the long term. in specific training courses, our experienced applications specialists pass on their know-how to machine operators, site supervisors, service technicians and maintenance personnel. this helps to ensure that the Wirtgen group machines can exploit their full potential on the job and at the same time operate efficiently without harming the environment. We have developed some of the world’s leading sustainable technologies and processes in our road and mineral technologies business areas. yet we want more: we want to continue improving, for our sustainable path has by no means come to an end. accompany us on this path – by placing your confidence in innovations from the Wirtgen group!
