SHOW RULES General Rules Divisions I and ll 1. Division I, Horticulture are open to all gardeners. 2. Division II, Design, are open to members of National Garden Clubs, Inc. 3. Entry forms provided by the Flower Show Committee and obtained from the flower show chair upon request must accompany all entries. 4. All entries must be made on Saturday, September 15th, from 9:00am 11:00am.Entries will be removed 5:00P.M. on the same day. 5. Judging will take place on Saturday, September 15th, 2012 from noon 2:00PM or until all exhibits are judged. The show will be open to the public from 3:00-5:00 p.m. 6. Only the Show Chairman, Judges Chairman, Classification Chairmen, Judges and Clerks are allowed on the floor during judging. No exceptions. 7. Horticulture and Design Classification chairmen will check to see that all entries conform to the schedule and will exclude entries that do not conform. 8. The decision of the judges is final. Awards may be withheld if not merited. 9. Exhibitors can make only one entry per class or subclass. 10. Plants listed by the Florida Exotic Pest Plant Council as Category I Exotic Invasive Plants for North Florida will not be accepted for competition. (Maybe downloaded from www.fleppc.org.) 11. Native plants and wildflowers and those on Florida's Endangered and Threatened Plant List must have been grown by the exhibitor (Horticulture Division) or obtained in a legal manner (Design Division) and so stated on the entry card. A list can be downloaded at http://www.virtualherbarium.org/EPAC 12. Emphasis in all Divisions is on fresh plant and/or dry and/or dried treated plant material. No artificial plant materials are to be used anywhere in the show.

Horticulture Rules 1. All horticulture specimens must be fresh plant material grown by exhibitor. Entries must be of show quality, well groomed and in suitable clean containers. Specimens that have been oiled or dressed will be disqualified. 2. All specimens should be correctly labeled with scientific (botanical) names. 3. To be eligible for a Top Exhibitor Award, specimen MUST BE identified by botanical name. If the plant is a hybrid, the cultivar or variety should be added. Common names may be also given. 4. Exhibitor may submit more then one entry per class or sub-class, if each is a different genus, species, variety, cultivar, type, form, size, or color. 5. Cut specimens of annuals, perennials & biannual must have been in the exhibitor’s possession from seeds, cuttings or immature plants and grown to maturity. 6. Blooms from bulbs, tubers, etc. must have been in exhibitor’s possession from planting or must have been cared for as a mature plant for at lest 90 days. 7. Container grown plants must have been an exhibitor’s possession at least 90 days, except for multiple and combination plants, which must have been in exhibitor’s possession and growing together at least six (6) weeks. 8. Orchids must have been in the exhibitor’s possession for at least six (6) months. 9. Exhibits of self-multiplying and other multiple plants are permitted. 10. Entry cards are available from the Show Chairman and MUST be completed in advance with as much information as possible before bringing exhibits to be placed. 11. Pots may be of any size unless otherwise noted. 12. Clear glass containers will be furnished for all cut specimens and suitable wedging is permitted, but must not detract. 13. The Committee reserves the right to combine or divide entries in any Section or Class. 14. Double potting and decorative pots are permitted as long as the interior pot does not protrude above the outer decorative container. 15. THE CLASSIFICATION COMMITTEE CHAIRS MUST APPROVE ALL ENTRIES AND HAVE AUTHORITY TO SUBDIVIDE & disqualify entries that do not conform to schedule requirements or are of inferior quality. Design Rules 1. Work must be done by one exhibitor, but may be placed by another person if necessary. 2. The exhibitor need not grow plant material. 3. Fresh plant material may not ever be treated in any manner. 4. If designer is unable to fulfill assignment, it is the designer's responsibility to let the Flower Show Chairman know well beforehand so that another exhibitor can be found. 5. List all plant material on a 3" x 5" card. 6. The following are allowed: Treated dried plant material, contrived flower form (Contrived flowers may not look exactly like a real flower) and/or plant forms constructed of recognizable plant materials; native plant materials grown by the exhibitor or obtained in a legal manner and correctly named; naturally shed feathers from non-endangered species and decorative wood. 7. The following are prohibited: All living members of the Animal Kingdom, e.g., mammals, birds, fish, etc, and taxi dermal representations of same; artificial plant materials; landscapes or scenes, the Flag of the United States of America or any other country. (See HB pp. 187-190 for complete Design Division guidelines.) 8. No backgrounds are permitted unless supplied by committee. 9. The Classification Chairman must approve and sign off on exhibit for conformance before the exhibitor leaves the exhibition space.

The Standard System of Awarding shall be used. Only one first place (Blue), one second place (Red) and one third place (Yellow) may be awarded in each Class. Honorable Mention (White) may be given to other meritorious exhibits. First Place must score 90 or more, Second Place, 85 or more, Third Place 80 or more, and Honorable Mention 75 or more. Judges 1. For the Design Division, please write comments on all designs except those winning blue ribbons. 2. Please note 90+ if merited on the entry card of all exhibits not winning a blue ribbon. 3. The Best-in-Show Award will be selected from the blue-ribbon winners in Divisions I and II. (Must have scored 95 or more).

NGC Awards Offered Division I Horticulture: Division must have listed in the Schedule at least five (5) sections with a minimum of three classes per section. There must be a minimum of twenty (20) exhibits in all, but there is no minimum number of exhibits required in each class. The Best-in-Show Award given for the complete and correctly named blue-ribbon winner determined by all judges who judged in the Division to be the highest scoring exhibit. (a rosette of three blue ribbons) 5 Awards of Merit - Section Award where classes have common characteristics, may be awarded. (a rosette of orange ribbons)

Division II Design: Must include at least three (3) classes, with a minimum of four exhibits each, totaling at least twelve (12) exhibits in all. Best-in-Show Award The blue-ribbon winner determined by all judges who judged in the Division to be the highest scoring. (a rosette of three blue ribbons). Designer’s Choice Award, a Section Award scoring 95 or more, may be awarded. (a rosette of purple ribbons)

'Falling in Love (Eligible for the Best-in-Show Award) Designer's choice of fresh and/or dried and/or treated plant materials. All designs are the designer's choice of type and style.

Class 1: Looking into Your Swirling Autumn Eyes A design staged on half a table approx. 29 ½ "H X 24” W X 30” L provided by committee. A design staged in a niche provided by committee, underlay allowed. Niche color decided by designer, many colors to choose from, on a first come, first serve basis. Niche size: 35 ½” H X 23 ½” W (back) and “wings”/sides 11 ½” W X 35 ½” H

Class 2: Watch That Arrow, Cupid A design staged on a pedestal provided by committee. Pedestal 30” H with a 131/2” sq top.

Class 3: A Bounty of Colorful Love An Exhibition table, type II design (HB page 216-217) staged on half a table approx. 29 ½ "H 24” W X 30” L provided by committee. Yellow Niche, size: 35 ½” H X 23 ½” W (back) and “wings”/sides 11 ½” W X 35 ½” H. Underlay allowed.
