A Message from Our Executive Director Dear Friends,   This Journal celebrates Jewish Learning Venture’s role in ensuring that Philadelphia remains a strong, vibrant center of dynamic Jewish life and learning. We are proud that Jewish Learning Venture was selected as one of the 50 most innovative Jewish agencies in North American by Slingshot ‘13-’14. Adeptly addressing issues of 21st century Judaism, Jewish Learning Venture empowers professional and volunteer leaders to strengthen dynamic Jewish institutions; builds relationships with and among families that are raising Jewish children; and nurtures community partnerships that allow people to find meaning and relevance in connecting to Jewish life. Our services directly touch and build relationships with Jewish families. Our initiatives enable Jewish educators, professionals and volunteer leaders to meaningfully engage those who enter their doors – and even those who do not! We convene conversations and foster collaborative problem solving among people who might otherwise never have the opportunity, nor choose, to interact and learn from one another.

Currently, we are completing the first cohort of LeV: Getting to the Heart of Jewish Education and are training a new cohort of the Jewish Education Technology Fellowship – initiatives affecting real innovation in supplementary Jewish Education. These, together with our Jewish Education and Leadership Development (JELD), Reshet, and the Harold and Renee Berger Synagogue Network for Young Families, continue to empower our congregations to adapt to meet the needs of 21st century Jewish families. We are already observing the positive impacts of having launched two exciting new initiatives: Whole Community Inclusion (WCI), creating a new, systemic approach to opening our community to all of those with special needs; and jteenphilly, a collaborative effort to reach and engage Jewish teens, their parents and the professionals who work with them. jkidphilly, including 5,000 children who receive monthly books and CDs of Jewish content from PJ Library Philadelphia, continues to deliver programs and resources to engage families in Jewish life and learning in their neighborhoods and in their own homes.   I am truly grateful to our Board of Directors, Trustees, committee members and other funders who provide strong visionary leadership and support throughout the year. It is because of you that we are able to celebrate Jewish life and learning and, in particular, the accomplishments of Jewish Learning Venture. Todah Rabbah!

L’Shalom,

Rabbi Philip Warmflash
