Dear Friends, CMS Summer School 2015: “Not Ashamed” Studies in Romans 1-8

“An indispensable time of fellowship, heart and mind enriching Bible teaching and missionary challenge that sets me up for the coming year”. I don‘t know how many times ministers and ministry minded Christians have told me how important CMS Summer School is in their preparation for a new year of ministry and mission. But a day at CMS Summer School can also be invaluable in raising the vision of your church members to God‘s mission for the coming year. Why not join the many churches who invite their members to join them for a „Summer School day‟; hearing life changing Bible teaching from Romans 1-8, being challenged by serving CMS missionaries, and enjoying a picnic lunch together? With our expanded Youth & Children‘s program, there are still many positions available in most age ranges. However, all attendees, even day visitors, must pre-register by December 12 if they want their children to experience the Youth & Children‟s program. What do you need to do to make this happen? *Register for Summer School and decide on a day for members to join you. *Advertise the day in your church email, newssheet and services. But, remember, personal invitations are still the most effective way to invite people to join you. *Encourage people to pre-register at www.nswsummerschool.org.au. Pre-registration is essential for the Youth & Children‘s program. *Meet your church members and enjoy a day of fellowship, challenge and growth in commitment to God‘s mission. For more information please contact us at [email protected] or phone 02 9267 3711.

Playtime Update On 6 November, we had our regular once-a-term ―Playtime at the Park‖, this time at Dutchies Playground. The weather was good and the children, mothers and grandmothers enjoyed the playing equipment and a picnic, and some enjoyed the sea and sand too. Playtime is a satisfying outreach ministry, as it‘s so rewarding to see children grow and the development of healthy relationships between children and between parents and carers. For some more socially isolated families it is like a much needed second home. It‘s as if the church becomes God‘s living room where all are welcome and share fellowship together.

As I will be moving on from Nelson Bay in 2015, it is a great joy to me that Catherine Govan has agreed to take over the leadership of Playtime next year. Thank you Catherine, and continuing thanks to the faithful regular Playtime team of Dawn, Verina, Helen W and Beryl. Catherine will need more help, however, so I urge you to think and pray whether this ministry is something for you. There are a host of tasks to be done, and you can just agree to take on one element, maybe on alternate weeks if every week is too hard. There isn‘t space to write all the tasks here, but jobs can be tailored to suit your personality (if you are scared of kids, there are ways you can hide!!). Please talk to Catherine, Dawn or myself for more information. Rosalie Atkinson Children & Young Families Team

Breakfast @ the Wiltshires A Christmassy party atmosphere seemed to pervade the social get-together for welcomers, ushers and roster makers last Tuesday [2 Dec]. Was it the perfect weather, sipping bubbles as we looked out on the yachts bobbing about at Soldier Point at 8.30am or the wonderfully generous breakfast buffet provided by Richard and Jessica? The mood was relaxed, the laughter infectious – a huge thank you to the Wiltshires for hosting this lovely event – just ‗kicking off‘ the Christmas holiday season nicely!
