Anlässlich des 27. Internationalen Wiener Motorensymposiums am Donnerstag, 27. April 2006, und Freitag, 28. April 2006, erlauben wir uns, Sie auf zwei interessante Tage mit einem ausgewählten Programm in Wien aufmerksam zu machen. Wir haben folgendes Rahmenprogramm für Sie vorbereitet: The 27th International Vienna Motor Symposium to be held on Thursday, 27 April 2006, and Friday, 28 April 2006, could well provide you one or two pleasant and interesting days in Vienna. In this connection, we have prepared the following social programme:
DONNERSTAG, 27. April 2006 – THURSDAY, 27 April 2006 Tagestour „Modernes Wien“ All-day Tour “Modern Architecture in Vienna“ Preis / Price: € 95,– / Person inkl. Bus, Mittagessen, Fremdenführer und Eintritte (incl. bus, lunch, guide and entrance fees) Donnerstag / Thursday, 27. April 2006, 9.00 – ca. 17.00 / 17.30 Uhr Treffpunkt / Meeting Point: 9.00 Uhr Eingang Kongresszentrum Hofburg / Entrance Congress Center Hofburg, Heldenplatz. Nach der Besichtigung der Fassade des Hundertwasser-Hauses geht die Fahrt mit dem Bus in den Prater zum Riesenrad – ein klassisches Beispiel für die Eisen-Stahl-Ära des ausgehenden 19.Jahrhunderts. Beispiele moderner Architektur können bereits aus der Gondel des Riesenrades während der Fahrt bestaunt werden. Zu diesen gehören Büro-, Bank- und Wohnhäuser wie auch ein interessanter Kirchenbau mit beeindruckendem Innenraum, gestaltet vom Wiener Architekten Heinz Tesar. After viewing the façade of the Hundertwasser House, we go by coach to the Ferris Wheel – a classic example of the iron/steel era towards the end of the 19 th century and a famous attraction in Vienna’s Prater Fairground. During the ride on the “Giant Wheel”, you will be able to admire more examples of modern architecture – offices, banks and residential buildings, as well as an interesting church construction with an impressive interior designed by the Vienna architect, Heinz Tesar.

Nach dem Mittagessen führt die Tour zu den sensationellen Umbauten der Gasometer – vier große Backsteintürme, welche die alte Bausubstanz und ihre Verwendung als Gasometer zeigen, aber die heutige Nutzung als Veranstaltungs-, Wohn- und Geschäftshäuser nicht verleugnen. Namhafte Architekten wie Jean Nouvel, Coop Himmelb(l)au, Manfred Wehdorn sowie Wilhelm Holzbauer stellten sich dieser Herausforderung.
After lunch, the tour goes to the sensational interior areas of “The Gasometers” – four very large brick built towers. These not only display their original building materials and former use as gasometers but also the present day conversion into an event, housing and shopping complex. Renowned architects like Jean Nouvel, Coop Himmelb(l)au, Manfred Wehdorn as well as Wilhelm Holzbauer set themselves this challenge.

Abschließend wird das jüngste Objekt moderner Architektur in Wien besichtigt: das T-Mobile Center von Günter Domenik. Finally, the tour ends with a visit to Vienna’s latest object of modern architecture, namely, the T-Mobile Center designed by Günter Domenik.

Die Tour beginnt auf dem Heldenplatz mit einer kurzen Einführung über die Entstehung des gesamten Hofburg-Gebäudekomplexes, in dem sich auch die hervorragende Sammlung Alter Instrumente befindet. Im Rahmen der Besichtigung der Instrumente aus fünf Jahrhunderten wird dank moderner Technik durch Hörbeispiele auch ein Einblick in die Klangfarbe dieser erlesenen Klangkörper gegeben. The tour begins at the Heldenplatz with a short introduction about the origins of the complete Hofburg building complex, in which the outstanding collection of valuable old instruments is to be found. While viewing the instruments belonging to a time period of five centuries, thanks to modern technology, it will be possible to listen to the tone quality of this exquisite instrumental ensemble.

Nach Verlassen der Neuen Hofburg gilt die Aufmerksamkeit der Augustinerkirche, welche städtebaulich zum Gebäudekomplex der Hofburg gehört und die Hochzeitskirche der Habsburger war. On leaving the New Hofburg, attention will be given to the Augustine Church where the marriages of the Habsburg family took place. As far as urban development is concerned, the church belongs to the building complex of the Hofburg.
Im Anschluss daran wird die Kapuzinergruft – Begräbnisstätte der Habsburger – gezeigt. Hier wurde im Jahr 1989 die Gemahlin des letzten Habsburgischen Kaisers, Zita von Burbon-Parma, begraben. After the Augustine Church, the tour goes to the Capuchin Crypt, the burial place of the Habsburgs. It is here that Zita of Bourbon-Parma, wife of the last Habsburg Emperor, was buried in the year 1989.

Nach dem Mittagessen führt der Spaziergang entlang der Kärntnerstraße zum Stephansdom und entlang des Graben zur Hofburg zurück. Auf diesem Weg liegen einige Geschäfte, die das Prädikat „Hoflieferant“ tragen, so z.B. die Firma Lobmeyr mit ihrer kleinen, aber feinen Glassammlung.
After lunch, the walking tour continues along the Kärntnerstrasse to St. Stephen’s Cathedral, through the Graben and back to the Hofburg. On the way, there are some older shops which bear the title of “Purveyor to the Court”. One, for example, is “Lobmeyr” with its small but very fine glass collection.

April 2006, 9.00 – ca. 14.00 Uhr Treffpunkt / Meeting Point: 9.00 Uhr Eingang Kongresszentrum Hofburg / Entrance Congress Center Hofburg, Heldenplatz. Der Spaziergang führt quer durch die Innere Stadt zu Orten, die im Zusammenhang mit dem Leben des Genies Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart stehen. Mozart wohnte und musizierte in vielen verschiedenen Häusern der Innenstadt. Der erste öffentliche Auftritt des 6-jährigen Knaben Mozart in Wien fand im Palais der Grafen Collalto mit hochbarocker Hauptfassade und Gedenktafel für den Komponisten statt. Konzerte gab Mozart auch in der „Sala Terrena“ in der Singerstraße – dem ältesten Konzertsaal Wiens.

The walking tour goes diagonally through the inner city to places that are connected with the life of the genius Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Mozart lived and played music in many different houses within the inner city. His first public appearance in Vienna at the age of six years took place in the Palais of Count Collalto with its high baroque main façade and memorial plaque for the composer. He also performed concerts in the oldest concert hall in Vienna, the “Sala Terrena” in the Singerstraße.
In der Domgasse steht das einzige erhaltene Wohnhaus des Meisters aus dem Jahr 1716, welches nun zu seinem 250. Geburtstag vollständig renoviert wurde. Es trägt den Namen „Figarohaus“. In the Domgasse stands the only maintained residence of the master from the year 1716 which, in honour of his 250th birthday, has now been completely renovated. It bears the name “Figaro House”. Die Tour führt zu weiteren Mozart-Gedenkstätten – so auch zu dem Platz, an dem sein Sterbehaus stand – und endet im Café Griensteidl, in der Nähe des Kongresszentrums, zum gemeinsamen Mittagessen beider Teilnehmergruppen. The tour leads to other Mozart memorial places, including the place where he died, and ends at the Café Griensteidl, near to the Congress Center, for lunch together with participants from both groups.

Der mächtige Museumskomplex mit dem Kunsthistorischen und dem Naturhistorischen Museum liegt auf der Ringstraße jenseits des Heldenplatzes. Beide Museen repräsentieren die Monumentalarchitektur der Ringstraße und gehen auf die Sammelleidenschaft der Habsburger zurück. Die Besichtigung im Naturhistorischen Museum gilt einmaligen Funden aus dem Donauraum und vielen weiteren Exponaten. Ein Dachspaziergang gibt einen eindrucksvollen Rundblick über die Stadt mit ihren vielen Kirchen bis hin zu den Weinbergen. The massive museum complex with the Art History Museum and the Natural History Museum is situated on the other side of the Ringstraße from the Heldenplatz. Both museums represent the monumental architecture of the Ringstraße and date back to the collecting enthusiasm of the Habsburgs. The visit in the Natural History Museum will cover unique findings from the Danube area and many other exhibits. A roof walk along the balustrade offers an impressive panorama over the city with its many churches and beyond to the vineyards. Die Tour geht weiter durch den beschaulichen Burggarten – mit einem Mozartdenkmal – zum Schweizerhof. Hier befindet sich der Eingang zur Schatzkammer. Unter den vielen wertvollen Exponaten befinden sich die Kronen des Heiligen Römischen Reiches und die Österreichische Kaiserkrone. Die Tour endet im Café Griensteidl, in der Nähe des Kongresszentrums, zum gemeinsamen Mittagessen beider Teilnehmergruppen.

The tour continues through the more tranquil Burggarten – with a Mozart memorial – to the Schweizerhof and Schweizertor, the gate where the entrance to the Treasure Chamber is located. Among many valuable exhibits, the crowns of the Holy Roman Empire and the Austrian Imperial Crown are displayed. The tour ends at the Café Griensteidl, near to the Congress Center, for lunch together with participants from both groups.
