24 Form Simplified Tai Chi? The 24 form was developed as a result of an effort by the Chinese Sports Committee in the early 1950s. They brought together four tai chi masters to create a simplified form of tai chi as an exercise that could be practiced by most everyone and movements that could be judged in tai chi competition tournaments. The creators shorten the traditional Yang family style of tai chi to 24 postures to give the participants an introduction to the essential elements of tai chi chuan, and yet retain the traditional flavor and depth of longer forms. This form is avidly promoted for general exercise. The 24 form is the most popular and standardized tai chi form practiced around the world.
