Dr. Jiajian Yu In 1964 Dr. Jiajian Yu was born in a Chinese family, which has a very long history in studying and practicing Traditional Chinese Medicine. Before him, there were twelve generations of his many ancestors working as doctors. When he was a little boy, jars, scales, wrist cushions were his toys. Later, putting herbs together according to the formula and taking off acupuncture needles for patients became his work after school. Even as a young boy, Traditional Chinese Medicine was a part of his daily life and naturally seeded a strong interest into him. After primary school, at the age of thirteen, he was sent by his family to a very famous doctor in Beijing to start his apprenticeship. Such experience was quite unique at the time as apprenticeship was almost a dead practice although it had been the traditional way of learning and training in Traditional Chinese Medicine for thousands of years. To live far away from his own family and only able to meet his family once or twice a year was hard for a young boy but there he obtained a strict and systematic training in Traditional Chinese Medicine, from making accurate diagnosis and designing personalized herbal formula, to practicing acupuncture treatment and even running a clinic. The six years of apprenticeship is always treasured by him and named as “my hard precious” to recognize the hardship but very fruitful result: solid knowledge and experience in Medicine, independent and logical thinking and most importantly, internal fortitude to perfect his practice. With these “precious”, he went to the Medical University to continue his formal education. There he obtained more theoretical and clinical knowledge. After graduation, he began to practice all the knowledge and experience he had obtained from both formal and traditional education. In over twenty years, he has been working as a Traditional Chinese medical doctor and still studying everyday. At the age of thirty, with years’ study of Traditional Chinese culture and civilization, Dr Yu realized the deep connection between Chinese Medicine 2

and Tai Chi and decided to learn Tai Chi to further improve his practice of Chinese Medicine. His dedication and fortitude again helped his achievements: within only three years, he became a well-known practitioner in his province and in 1997 obtained a gold medal in an international Tai Chi competition. The practice of Tai Chi strengthened the effect of his acupuncture treatments and improved his understanding of the basic but utmost theory of Chinese Medicine – balance. His medical skills achieved another grade. Then he opened his own clinic in his mother’s hometown specializing in complicated complaints. Here for about 10 years, he accumulated a lot of experience in diagnosing and treating complicated complaints that could not be helped by hospital doctors and became well-known in the local area. Thousands of people were able to get their quality of life back with his help. In 2004 he was invited by a British company specializing in alternative medicine to work in the UK. He started his new journey of exploring in Medicine in a foreign country. In the first two years he worked in several different clinics. His British clients were as charmed by his dedication and caring manner as his Chinese clients. Many elderly ladies even treated him like their own son as he treated them as his own mother, caring and respectful. In his own clinic, he puts his knowledge, attitude, manners and culture all together to bring an impressive experience for his clients. His overall success rate has been over 95% but he is still studying daily to improve his skills and frequently attend national and international TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) meetings to benefit from his colleagues’ experience. In his clinic, his clients can not only have their complaints successfully solved and helped but also be enlightened to the ancient Chinese wisdom which shows path to a healthy life style and natural balance in body, spirit and soul.

Traditional Chinese Medicine Traditional Chinese Medicine is a gem of ancient eastern wisdom About 4600 years ago, some ancient Chinese Taoist masters discovered the ultimate secret of the nature – balance between two opposite but complementary elements: Yin and Yang. Based on this philosophy, those masters further obtained an extraordinary sense of the body and the workings through their many hours of meditation. From this knowledge derived the traditional Chinese medicine, in which the balance of Yin and Yang is the key to the health. Once the balance is broken, illness starts to develop. Traditional Chinese Medicine aims to provide practices to regain the balance. The practices include: Acupuncture, Herbal Remedy, Tui Na (Chinese Medical Massage), Dietary and Tai Chi and Qigong exercises.

Acupuncture In China, the practice of acupuncture can be traced as far back as the Stone Age (over 5000 years ago). It works by gently inserting and manipulating fine needles into specific points on the body for therapeutic purposes. Those points lie along meridians (energy channels), in which Qi, the vital energy flows. Through working on those points, acupuncture treatment regulates the flow of Qi and blood, tonifying where there is deficiency, draining where there is excess, and promoting free flow where there is stagnation. There are 365 acupressure points on the body. Even on the same point, different depth of insertion aims for different therapeutic purpose. The mastery of acupuncture requires years’ learning and experience. For an acupuncture master, the practice of each session resembles that of meditation: by putting all his concentration onto the practice, he and his needles become one single spirit so that when he inserts the needles, he can clearly feel all the changes and responses in the client’s body. Even after the insertion, the needles can connect and respond to each other in such a way that the client can feel warmth and moving sensation within his own body as if the needles are being manipulated by an invisible hand.

Herbal Remedy Chinese herbal medicine is an art of incorporating ingredients from all parts of plants, the leaf, stem, flower, root, seed, etc, resulting in a100% natural form of medication. Each herbal medicine prescription is a cocktail of many herbs tailored to suit the individual patient. A remedy is usually designed to contain one or two main ingredients to target the illness, and many other ingredients to adjust the formula to the patient’s individual Yin/Yang conditions. As a result, the remedy not only solves the illness but also improves the patient’s general well-being. The mastery of this skill requires great experience and knowledge, and makes the difference between a good Chinese herbal doctor and an amateur.

Joint/Muscular Pain According to TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine), all kinds of joint/muscular pain are caused by blockage in the meridians (channels that supply nourishment and vital energy to all our inner organs, joints, muscles and skin). A lot of condition can cause the blockage, such as: arthritis, fluid retention, wear and tear, injuries, trapped nerve, etc. When the blockage occurs, our body informs us of it through the feeling of pain, stiffness, pins and needles and numbness. Those sensations must not be ignored and should be treated instantly and properly to avoid further, serious damage. Acupuncture can stimulate meridians to greatly improve circulation so as to unblock the areas. Herbal remedy can dissolve the blockage and nourish the inflamed and weakened muscles and joints. The combination can effectively solve the pain, strengthen the muscles and joints and prevent recurrence. Our success rate for joints pain, we are happy to say, is almost 100%! Maintenance is usually highly recommended after the successful treatment if the joint pain is caused by wear and tear and/or arthritis. Related Complaints: Sore Neck, Frozen Shoulder, Tennis Elbow, Golfer’s Elbow, Lower Back Pain, Pins&Needles in Arms and Hands, Sciatica, Arthritis, Gout, Sprains, Restless Leg Syndrome, Fluid Retention, Un-healable Ulcer and Un-explainable Pain. Testimonial: “Dr. Yu solved my severe back and leg pain. The pain started from my lower back and travelled down into the front of my knee. I was in absolute agony. I had been suffering from the pain for at least 18 months and it was getting worse every day. Eventually walking became virtually impossible unless I had my walking stick. Even then, it was a struggle. I also found it 10

difficult to stand still for any period of time. After I tried everything with no avail, I decided to attend Dr. Yu’s Clinic as my last resort. It was after my third session that I noticed a drastic improvement: the pain had begun to ease off. From then on I felt the pain fading after each and every session. After only four weeks’ treatment, I’m feeling 90-95% better. It’s just incredible! I can walk and stand still comfortably, with no walking stick! My energy levels are the best they have been in years; my sleep pattern is greatly improved and surprisingly I’m eating less but feeling so much better! I wish I had come sooner and benefited from his treatment sooner.” Mr. William Mackenzi

Testimonial: “Dr. Yu has cured all my pain and helped settle my diabetes. I am completely pain free, sleeping good, not tired anymore and I feel so much more alive. My whole life has completely changed. I feel so healthy. I first of all came to see Dr. Yu for the terrible pain in my lower back and both my legs. I suffered with constant pain for over six years and taking Pain killers and pain relief injection into my spine. Now I am 100% pain free not needing pain killers or injections, Dr. Yu’s treatment has completely solved all the pain I was in. I experienced how well Dr. Yu solved pain so I decided to ask if he could help with diabetes. I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes over a year ago and ever since I have been feeling tired, feeling thirsty all the time, only sleeping 3 hours, having terrible night sweats and really worrying about my health. To start I didn’t notice much improvement but after 9 or 10 sessions, I can see big difference in my health. My energy started to lift and I was sleeping far better with no interruptions. The night sweats and thirsty feeling are both gone. Now I feel fantastic! I have no pain, I am painkiller free, I have no night sweats, I have more energy, I am sleeping properly and most importantly he has helped my diabetes. I’ve never felt so well in many years! I am so grateful and very thankful to Dr. Yu and his team for all the help they have given me and the help is on-going.”Mrs. Sylvia Byers 11

Migraine and Recurring Headaches Modern Scientific research has found that headache pain begins with the trigeminal nerve. Headaches are triggered when the nerve is stimulated by light, noise, stress, hormonal imbalance, etc. Traditional Chinese Medicine has a very coherent, consistent and philosophically-based framework for headache physiology, diagnosis and treatment strategy. In general, a pain free head should always have balanced inner organs to supply sufficient and smooth flow of nourishment and vital energy to the head. Headache is included in the list of 43 conditions recognized by the World Health Organization for which acupuncture is effective. Acupuncture can greatly improve the blood flow into the head and solve the pain. Herbal remedy is very important in treating headaches because it contains the essential nourishment. Gradually this combination can strengthen and balance the inner organs so that the client can eventually maintain the smooth flow by himself. Testimonial: “Dr. Yu has cured my 2 years’ terrible migraines. I’m feeling 100% pain free now! Before I came to see Dr. Yu, I was having two migraines every week. Apart from the severe headaches, I was also having zigzags in my vision. I couldn’t read, write or drive, and my speech was affected because I just lost control of my tongue. Even my brain got disengaged. My eyes could see the words but my brain couldn’t recognize them. Fortunately when I was feeling so hopeless, my two colleagues both highly recommended Dr. Yu to me since both of them had very successful treatments here. Dr. Yu gave me acupuncture and herbal remedy. Even within two weeks I could see big difference already! I had two migraines in 10 days but they were nothing in comparison with my usual ones. After those two, my migraines completely stopped. I’ve never felt once since then. I’ve never felt better in two years!” Ms. Nicola Smith 12

I.B.S. (Irritable Bowel Syndrome) I.B.S. can be an embarrassing and very inconvenient problem which could ruin our plans, make us worried and lower the quality of life. In Traditional Chinese Medicine I.B.S. is caused by either dysfunction of particular organs (i.e.: Spleen and Liver Disharmony, Spleen and Kidney Disharmony and Spleen Dysfunction) or stagnation of different toxins (i.e.: Chi Stagnation and Toxin of Damp Heat). Each client would need to be thoroughly checked to ensure the underlying cause is diagnosed and the best treatment plan is followed. Acupuncture can strengthen the flow of both nourishment and vital energy into the affected organs so that the organs can be balanced and toxin cleared. Herbal remedy provides nourishment directly into the body to correct the disharmony. The combination can solve I.B.S. in a most natural and effective way. The patients can also enjoy a lot of bonus effects from the inner organs functioning stronger, such as much more energy, better sleep and possible weight loss. Related Complaints: Acid Reflux, Bloatedness, Stomach-ache, Indigestion, Heart Burn, Constipation, Colit, Diarrhoea Testimonial: “Dr Yu has cured my years’ IBS and Insomnia. I’ve never felt as great as I do now! My IBS started when I was a teenager. For many years I had been feeling bloated and uncomfortable. I had to be very careful with what I ate. For example if I had eggs I would rush to the toilet straight away. I didn’t have much of an 13

appetite because I was bloated and worried if my stomach was upset. Frustratingly I couldn’t lose weight although I wasn’t eating much at all. My sleep was another problem. I could only get three to four hours sleep and I was feeling exhausted during the day. After only four sessions of acupuncture and 3 weeks herbs, the difference has been absolutely amazing! First of all, all the bloatedness and discomfort are gone. I even tried eggs the other day. Surprisingly, I was fine without the usual diarrhea! My sleeping pattern became normal. I slept all the way through from 9:30 pm to 7 am and had to be woken up by my alarm. My energy has never been so good and I even did housework for the whole day, which never happened before. There have been many bonus effects as well. Surprisingly, I’ve lost weight. My stomach is getting smaller and I’m changing shape. The other day when I met my friend for lunch she said,” Your face is glowing.” I can definitely see my skin getting softer, smoother and tighter! I can’t praise Dr Yu enough. It has been a life changing experience. I would highly recommend his treatment!” Mrs. C. Huxtable

Depression In TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine), mental or emotional problems such as: depression, anxiety, stress, etc. are attributed to an imbalance of the inner organs or blockage in one or more of the meridians. Most commonly affected organs include: liver, spleen, kidneys and heart. That is why when suffering from psychiatric disorders people also suffer from symptoms related with the deficiency of those inner organs, such as: poor digestion, poor energy, poor sleep, aches and pains, palpitations and bad circulation. We use both Acupuncture and Herbal Remedy to treat this problem. The combination can unblock meridians and balance the affected inner organs so that the problem can be solved. Added benefits for this treatment are brilliant: sleep and energy are a lot better; circulation and metabolism are both boosted; digestive system is improved; great relaxation, possible weight loss, and a much better and brighter mentality. Related Complaints: Anxiety, Stress, Panic Attacks and Insomnia Testimonial “For a while I was so depressed with my poor health condition that I even felt suicidal once. Before attending Dr. Yu’s clinic, I had been sitting in the house solid for at least 3 months, feeling depressed, painful and hopeless.

15

My daughter-in-law recommended Dr. Yu’s clinic to me. The treatments have worked wonders for me. First of all, it has cured my back pain. Now I have completely stopped pain killers and still feel pain free. Actually 4 weeks since I started the treatment, I was able to climb a ladder, which I couldn’t even imagine before. Even my skin was getting so much better week after week. Now most of the big patches of psoriasis are cleared and the itchiness has stopped completely. My stomach is brilliant now. All the symptoms of poor digestion and irregular bowel movements have disappeared. I am enjoying my food again. I’m having so much more energy and my motivation has come back! Dr. Yu has completely changed my life. My daughter said I am like a new person. Before I was so fed up that I didn’t want to talk to anybody and having my dressing gown all day in the house watching TV, but now, I can have a nice walk around the town which I haven’t done for years! In two months I will be eighty. I never thought I would see it but now I am looking forward to my birthday party!” Mr. William Smith

16

M.E. A lot of people who come to the clinic feel embarrassed to say they have M.E because they feel people don’t understand and think its just poor energy. Unfortunately this is not the case. M.E leaves your whole body feeling weak and lifeless, day to day life can be a constant struggle, and many people even have to spend days in bed. Other symptoms which can be connected are: poor sleep, poor appetite, headaches, muscular and joint aches all over the body, chronic fatigue, heart palpitations, depression, anxiety and panic attacks. We treat this problem very successfully and effectively. In Traditional Chinese Medicine M.E. is diagnosed as an inner organ deficiency and disharmony of blood and chi. Each symptom is connected to certain inner organs, most commonly liver, kidneys, and heart. If these inner organs are not balanced that’s when the above symptoms occur. This most commonly can be caused by virus flu and bug, stress, constant worry, previous illness or poor blood circulation. Acupuncture helps to unblock meridians for a smooth flow of Chi and Blood. Our herbal remedy can help nourish certain inner organs so that they can get stronger and all the symptoms can naturally disappear. Testimonial “I was chronically fatigued for almost 25 years but the last 3 years were horrendous. I couldn’t find the energy or strength for anything. Even if I had 9-10 hours’ sleep, I would still wake up feeling like I had none at all. All my joints felt achy and I had a constant dull headache. I picked up every bug or flu around me.

17

Attending his clinic has saved me from another 25 years of constant day to day struggle. After the first session I had one day of extra energy. Gradually my good days got more and I found myself recovering from tiredness a lot faster. My headaches were gone and I could feel myself getting stronger. It took about 8 sessions before a dramatic result was accomplished: I was completely fine! Years of constant struggle had come to an end. I feel on top of the world! My energy levels are soaring. Sleep is great, no more joint pain or headaches. Previously I also suffered from heart burn, acid reflux and bloating but even they have been solved at the same time. The amount of people who have commented on how much healthier I look is unreal. I urge anyone who thinks nothing can help him to try Dr. Yu’s clinic. You may get some life changing experience just as I did.” Mr. Robert Hotchkiss

Skin Complaints TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) provides a safe and effective alternative for those skin disorders which are not responsive to conventional medicine, and or those patients who prefer more natural methods of treatment. Skin complaints arise from a number of causes, both external and internal. The common external factors include: infections, over-exposure to sunlight, parasites, toxic substances and other illness-causing elements in TCM such as: Wind, Dampness, Dryness and Heat. Internal imbalances are differentiated into patterns, such as: Blood Stasis, Disharmony of Liver and Kidney and Blood Deficiency. TCM has built up a sophisticated system for treating skin complaints. We first find the underlying cause of the problem, both external and internal, and adjust the treatment accordingly. Acupuncture can unblock meridians to boost inner organ function. Herbal Remedy can detoxify the body and balance the affected inner organs. Usually results are very effective and long-lasting for most skin complaints.

Testimonial: “I am seventy-seven. People thought I was crazy when they knew I was coming to the Chinese Clinic for weight loss, because, according to them I shouldn’t care about my figure for my age. My intention to lose weight was not driven by the pursuit of beauty but the advice of my GP. One week after I started, I noticed a big difference in my energy, and I lost 3 pounds. It has been three months since I started Dr. Yu’s treatment. I’ve lost over 1.5 stone. Now I can walk 2 miles from my house to the town centre without feeling out of breath. I feel strong and healthy and so much happier. All my friends and neighbours are amazed at the great difference in my look and my health.” Mrs. Hamilton

Infertility and Sexual Disorders The ideology of “more children, more blessing” used to be dominant in ancient Chinese culture. Due to this ideology, infertility and sexual disorders of both men and women were considered as serious illnesses whose cure was of vital importance. Traditional Chinese Medicine has accumulated systematic knowledge and experience to treat those illnesses. Acupuncture and herbal remedy are both applied to balance liver, heart and kidney function. Those organs’ functions are considered to control the production and balance of hormones, which are crucial in sexual performance and fertility. Through strengthening and balancing the functions of those inner organs, the treatments can balance the hormones in a 100% natural way and the complaints are naturally solved. The treatments can always strengthen up the client’s general well-being at the same time. He or she feels more energetic, stronger and even younger from inside to outside. Related Complaints: Infertility, Impotence, Premature Ejaculation, and Overdue.

Health Care

The pursuit for living eternally used to be the dream and goal of a lot of ancient Chinese emperors, although was certainly failed by all. However, during serving for this unrealistic goal, and for the health care of the emperors, the queens and the emperors’ countless concubines, ancient Chinese royal doctors did accumulate a lot of experience in boosting fertility, improving energy and sexual performance, keeping youth and beauty and slowing aging. Acupuncture can stimulate inner organs to boost their performance so that organs, muscles, skin and hair can all reach their peak condition. Herbal remedy can provide the essential nourishment for the whole body to keep balance in hormones, circulation and metabolism. In the long term the difference in immune system, energy levels, flexibility and outside look can all be quite noticeable. Health care is a long term effort. However, the benefits in good health, younger look, natural beauty and much better quality of life make all worth it.
