Friends of the South Pasadena Public Library, Inc. A Special Note from the Friends The purpose of the Annual Report is to list and thank all contributors to the Friends Membership Campaign and our three Endowment Funds. It is also an opportunity to recognize memorial contributions, gifts in honor of, and other gifts and donations made to the library throughout the year. The Friends of the South Pasadena Public Library appreciate your support of its mission, activities, programs, and general good works, and welcome your constructive comments. The 2015 Annual Report reflects donations from the 2015 Membership Campaign, which began on December 1, 2014 and ended November 31, 2015. Donations for the current 2016 Membership Campaign will appear in the 2016 Annual Report, which will be published at this time next year. The Book Endowment Fund, Technology Endowment Fund, Elizabeth Seto Memorial Endowment Fund, Summer Reading Program, Restoration Concert Series, and Memorial Donations listed were made during the calendar year 2015. The Friends’ financial statement is provided at the Annual Meeting in January and is available upon request. This report is created by volunteers. Friends of the South Pasadena Public Library

Dear Friends, One of the privileges of being president of the Friends in 2015 is thanking our donors, volunteers, and the library’s staff for the important role they all played in bringing resources and services to our library. Because of your generosity, the Friends were able to provide more than $77,000 in direct support to the library in 2015. These funds were raised from Membership contributions, gifts received from individuals, foundations, corporations and local organizations, interest income from our three endowment funds, contributions made in memory and in honor of family and friends, and income from our all-volunteer Friends Bookstore. Friends Bookstore sales in 2015 totaled an impressive $56,579! Throughout 2015, the Friends provided financial support for 43 programs including Authors Nights featuring Steve Hodel, Barney Frank, Tommy LaSorda, and Dean Ghaffari as Sal Minoe, East West players “Born to Lead,” F. Scott Fitzgerald Living History Performance, screenings of “Cesar Chavez,” “To Kill a Mockingbird,” “A Hard Days’ Night” and “Help,” as well as the Eclectic Music Festival, The Moon Festival, College Admissions & Adult Services Workshops, and an Autism Forum, to name only a few. The Friends board of directors would also like to acknowledge and thank the Measure L Campaign Committee. The Committee deserves a great deal of the credit for managing the campaign and for providing much-needed leadership throughout the 12-month process. In addition, it is always our pleasure to thank the many individuals and businesses who provide financial and in-kind support for our Summer Reading Program, Restoration Concerts Series, and to the library in general. With just one click, you can pay for Membership, donate to our endowment funds, or make a contribution in memory or in honor of family and friends. Our website is also full of announcements for upcoming events such as Restoration Concerts, Silent Auctions, Children’s Programs, Author and Film Nights. ENDOWMENT FUNDS Each of the Friends’ three Endowment Funds is designed to perpetually support the needs of the Friends of the Library through a designated investment fund. These funds are invested to earn income each year, and as the value of the endowment grows, so does the income it generates. In 2015, these three funds provided more than $10,000 in direct support for children’s titles, books of enduring value, and technology.

MEASURE L CAMPAIGN COMMITTEE The all-volunteer Measure L Committee deserves a great deal of credit for the success of Measure L. The Committee raised all the funds used by the campaign and actively conducted a cohesive campaign that clearly resonated with library users and voters (81.5% voter approval!). RESTORATION CONCERT SERIES – 2015 SUPPORTERS

The Restoration Concert Series, now in its 19th year, is sponsored by the Friends of the South Pasadena Public Library. Proceeds from the concert Series are dedicated to the ongoing enhancement of the library and to its historic Community Room, an original Carnegie Library. The Restoration Concerts Committee, composed of volunteers, will honor its “Grand 20th Celebration Year” during the 2016/2017 season. Robert Thies, pianist, will begin the celebration in September 2016; and the New Hollywood String Quartet, the Series’ Quartet in Residence, will perform in May of 2017.
