Of Note for 2014 Offerings for Young Adults - for those who have graduated from high school and are eager to gain insight from conference faculty, we offer the following two new opportunities to discuss the impact of faith on your future. Young Adult - Discerning Vocation (Katie Owen) “What are you going to be when you grow up?”  Whether this is a question you get asked regularly by others or a question you’re pondering yourself, gather with others who are exploring what it means to be called by God.  Discover some of your unique, God-given gifts.  Ponder how those gifts might be used in your future college major, career, and everyday life.  Discern ways your faith and life connect with purpose and intentionality.   Young Adult Roundtables (varying faculty) Young adults are invited to interact with key faculty members in a casual setting. Differing faculty groups will be featured each day as the schedule allows.

“Rise, O Church, like Christ Arisen” These words, penned by hymnist Susan Palo Cherwien, frame our gathering at Montreat Conference Center in 2014. As children of God and believers in Christ, we come together seeking rest, renewal, inspiration, and support in a community of faith. In addition to the leadership of Jon Walton, Sue Mitchell-Wallace, and Paul Westermeyer, the conference will also feature such emerging leaders of the PC(U.S.A.) as Katie Owen, Amos Disasa, Ginny Taylor-Troutman, and other newly ordained ministers of the church, joining with PAM’s vision to form faithful disciples through music, liturgy, and the arts. “Service be our sure vocation; courage be our daily breath; mercy be our destination from this day and unto death. Alleluia! Rise, O church, a living faith!”

Children’s Music Activity - those who work with children know that it is important to plan for three times as many activities as you think you need. This class, offered to children as participants and adults as observers, focuses on all of the “extra” things needed in rehearsal, including Orff, bells, games, and much more. Come fill your bag of tricks! Youth Activities - several new additions to the youth evening schedule will provide a greater opportunity for fellowship and sharing throughout the week. Middler Missions - Hands-on activities for Middlers focused on the work of the Church outside our cities and country. Connect with missionaries and be a part of the effort to spread God’s kingdom on earth. Choral Reading Sessions - a more accessible time to encounter new music presented by conference clinicians. Monday - Wednesday, 1:30, Anderson Auditorium. Please register in order to receive a packet. Monday evening’s organ recital will take place in Anderson Auditorium.

In addition, the following classes are offered exclusively for this age group: Discerning Vocation (Katie Owen) “What are you going to be when you grow up?”  Whether this is a question you get asked regularly by others or a question you’re pondering yourself, gather with others who are exploring what it means to be called by God.

+ Adult Choir (Chris Aspaas) This choir is for all registered adult conferees. Two rehearsals each day prepare this choir to sing for worship and for the Friday concert. A music packet, the cost of which is included in the conference registration fee, will be distributed on-site during registration. + Organ Service Playing (Sue Mitchell-Wallace) Develop practical skills for creative service playing, including transposition, modulation, creative hymn playing, simple improvisation, etc. + Preaching Seminar “And Clothed in Christ’s Humanity” (Jon Walton) The course will examine the challenge of preaching in a modern and changing context of secular values, extreme privatism, changing worship forms and fluid styles. Many in the church believe that preaching is dead, and worship must adopt the ways, means, and media of contemporary culture.  How do we weigh that desire for style over against the call of Romans 10:14 for substance, “How are they to hear without someone to proclaim him?”  How can we as preachers and worshippers recover the value of preaching for a new generation in the church? + Worship Reflections (Katie Owen, worship leaders and planners) An opportunity to discuss daily worship with those who planned and led the day’s service. Discover what was planned and what was unplanned, and how those who designed worship respond to what actually happens with the conference congregation.
