2014 Honda IndyCar Teams and Drivers Andretti Autosport Owner: Michael Andretti Director of Racing Operations: Kyle Moyer Drivers: Marco Andretti James Hinchcliffe Ryan Hunter-Reay Carlos Munoz One of the most successful teams in IndyCar racing, and one that can date its association with Honda back to 1997, Andretti Autosport returns to Honda power for the 2014 season with a strong, four-driver lineup – and each one capable of winning the Verizon IndyCar Series championship. Led by racing legend Michael Andretti, the Indianapolis-based team has won three previous IndyCar titles with Honda (2004, 2005, 2007), and twice triumphed at the Indianapolis 500 (2005, 2007). Founded as Team Green in the mid-1990’s by veteran team manager Barry Green, the team began its association with Honda in 1997, and was a race winner and championship contender in Championship Auto Racing Teams (CART) competition through 2002. Anchored for many years by the driver pairing of Dario Franchitti and Paul Tracy, the team added Michael Andretti as a third driver in 2001, scoring his final victory as a driver at the 2002 Grand Prix of Long Beach. When the team – and Honda – moved to the Indy Racing League for 2003, Andretti took on a team ownership role in the newly-renamed Andretti Green Racing. Six years later, Andretti assumed sole ownership and Andretti Autosport was launched in 2009. For 2014, Andretti Autosport seeks to add to the 57 IndyCar race victories and three previous championships won with Honda. The impressive driver lineup includes returning veteran Ryan Hunter-Reay – the 2012 IndyCar Series champion – race winners Marco Andretti and James Hinchcliffe – and promising series rookie Carlos Munoz, who starred last year in Indy Lights championship and make a sensational debut at the Indianapolis 500.

After racing for five years as a driver/owner in Championship Auto Racing Teams (CART) competition, Dale Coyne stepped out of the cockpit in 1990 and turned his attentions toward developing up-and-coming IndyCar drivers. The list of drivers benefitting from Coyne’s experience includes future series champion Paul Tracy, Oriol Servia, Katherine Legge, Michel Jourdain Jr., “supersubs” Roberto Moreno and Memo Gidley, Atlantic and sports-car star Ryan Dalziel. In addition to operating his race team, Coyne was also the driving force behind the creation of Route 66 Raceway in Joliet, Illinois, just down the road from his team’s long-time base in nearby Plainfield. In recent seasons, Coyne began a program to upgrade his team’s engineering capabilities and overall competitiveness. Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing Owners: Bobby Rahal, David Letterman, Mike Lanigan Team Manager: Ricardo Nault Drivers: Graham Rahal Oriol Servia The original Honda-powered IndyCar team in the Championship Auto Racing Team (CART) series, Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing returned as a partner team with Honda as manufacturer competition made its own welcome return to IndyCar racing in 2012. Founded in 1992 by three-time IndyCar champion and 1986 Indy 500 winner Bobby Rahal and late St. Louis businessman Carl Hogan, the team joined with Honda in 1993 as the manufacturer began its IndyCar program, conducting an extensive test program that year and adding a second car, driven by Mike Groff, for the ‘94 season. CBS Late Show host David Letterman became a co-owner following the 1995 season, and the team took on the Rahal Letterman Racing moniker as it continued to compete in CART through 2003. That same year, the team reunited with Honda to take part in the IRL IndyCar Series. With driver Buddy Rice, Rahal Letterman Racing scored Honda’s first Indianapolis 500 victory in 2004 and played a major role in Honda’s first IRL manufacturers’ championship. Businessman Mike Lanigan joined the ownership group in 2011 as the team became Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing. For 2012, the team opened a second base of operations for its expanded IndyCar Series operations, located in the Indianapolis suburb of Brownsburg. Prior to starting her team, in 2000, Fisher became the third woman to start the Indianapolis 500. She went on to become the first woman to earn an IndyCar Series pole, competed in nine Indianapolis 500s and was voted “most popular driver” four times by series fans. Fisher announced her retirement at the end of the 2010 season, and Ed Carpenter joined the team as driver in 2011, taking part in a nine-race schedule highlighted by his and the team’s first IndyCar Series victory at Kentucky Speedway. For 2012, the team name changed to Sarah Fisher Hartman Racing, reflecting the new role of businessman Wink Hartman as a full partner. Hartman, whose Wichita-based Hartman Oil Company operates more than 600 wells in Kansas and Oklahoma, was one of the first sponsors of the Fisher team, and now has increased his participation to a full partnership role. Also joining the team for 2012 was driver Josef Newgarden, who came to IndyCar after several years of racing in various European training ground series, then returning to the U.S. to win the Firestone Indy Lights Championship with five race victories in 14 races during the 2011 season. Honda power became the final piece of the puzzle for Sarah Fisher Hartman Racing, with the addition of the team to Honda’s IZOD IndyCar Series lineup completing the manufacturer’s full-season effort for 2012, and the combination returns intact for 2013.

Won the Firestone Indy Lights Championship in 2011, scoring five race wins and 10 podium finishes in 14 races while driving for Sam Schmidt Motorsports. Took part in the British Formula F Championship in 2009, winning nine times and finishing second in the series championship. Moved up to GP3 in 2010, scoring a pole at Hockenheim and a fifth-place finish at Monza. Started car racing in 2007, and in 2008 finished second in the Skip Barber National Championship with three wins. Also took part in the annual British Formula Ford Festival as part of Team USA, winning the Kent Class event. Schmidt Peterson Motorsports Owners: Sam Schmidt, Ric Peterson Team Manager: Rob Edwards Drivers: Simon Pagenaud Mikhail Aleshin As with all other Honda-powered teams in the 2014 Verizon IndyCar Series, Schmidt Peterson Motorsports is run by a former IndyCar driver with decades of experience. Sam Schmidt started his team in 2001, the year after he was paralyzed in an IndyCar crash at Walt Disney World Speedway in Orlando, Florida. Inspired by the similarlyinjured Formula One team owner Frank Williams, Schmidt has utilized his unique background – in addition to his racing experience, he holds a Masters Degree in International Finance from Pepperdine University – to both advance his team and promote the Sam Schmidt Paralysis Foundation. With Alex Tagliani at the wheel of the team’s full-season entry in 2011 under the FAZZT banner, Sam Schmidt Motorsports claimed the pole for the Indianapolis 500, and garnered additional success through its technical partnership with Bryan Herta Autosport, winner of the dramatic 100th anniversary ‘500’, the late Dan Wheldon’s final triumph. Late in the season, the two teams “traded” drivers, and Wheldon was driving for Sam Schmidt Motorsports at Las Vegas, where he died as a result of injuries suffered in a massive, multi-car crash. Wheldon’s death deeply affected the entire Sam Schmidt Motorsports organization. But the team regrouped for 2012, signing former Champ Car driver and American Le Mans Series champion Simon Pagenaud to lead the team, and has expanded to a two-car operation the following year, and rookie Mikhail Aleshin will join Pagenaud for 2014. Since 2013, team founder Sam Schmidt has been partnered with Canadian businessman and former Atlantic racer Ric Peterson, with another former IndyCar driver, Davey Hamilton as a minority partner in the #77 entry of Simon Pagenaud
