Count on Durability

When productivity is top priority, there’s one machine people turn to more than any other: the Toro® Groundsmaster® 580-D. With a 16' (4.9 m) cutting swath, it can mow an entire acre in less than 5 minutes. No wonder it’s in such high demand at parks, corporate campuses, and municipal facilities. If you mow by the acre, the Groundsmaster 580-D is the logical choice.

The industry’s toughest spindle assembly. The 580-D spindle assemblies are tested to take a beating that would destroy most spindle assemblies. A cast iron housing with a massive 93/8" (23.8 cm) diameter base absorbs impacts and distributes the load across the robust deck shell. Plus, Timkin® tapered roller bearings last up to six times longer than ball bearings.

Productivity defined. The Groundsmaster 580-D is the standard by which all high-productivity mowers are measured. Its massive 16' (4.9 m) cutting swath and 80 hp (59.6 kW) engine let you mow an incredible 14.4 acres/h (5.8 hectares/h). Even getting to the job is fast, with a transport speed of 20 mph (32.2 km/h). With the Groundsmaster 580-D, productivity doesn’t come at the expense of quality. The 3 offset deck configuration follows ground contours for a consistent cut. A combination of pressure-balanced hydraulic gear motors and long-lasting drive belts power the cutting units. This design is easier to service and requires less horsepower than direct-drive hydraulic systems.

The side decks can be raised on the fly to mow 7.7' (2.3 m) or 12' (3.7 m) swaths.

Agility and control. Despite its grand stature, the Groundsmaster 580-D is surprisingly nimble. The wing decks are positioned to deliver 18" (45.7 cm) trimability, allowing the operator to maneuver a 180° turn without leaving a strip of uncut grass. Cutting on hillsides is made easy by the patented Traction-Plus system. This unique weight transfer system adjusts the amount of weight placed on the traction wheels to prevent slippage. 4-wheel drive is also available. ™

As tough as you are. The rugged design of the Groundsmaster 580-D deftly handles tall, wet grass and the substantial cutting decks and spindle assemblies are built to withstand the toughest conditions. For added assurance, the reinforced wing decks feature a breakaway system to protect against damage if a solid object is struck. The traction drive utilizes 2-speed piston motors and planetary wheel drives at the front axle. The system requires significantly less torque than a direct motor system, resulting in increased efficiency and component life, and a lower cost of ownership. Wing deck breakaway feature

Built for the long haul. Designing the Groundsmaster® 580-D for maximum productivity includes conveniences for both operators and technicians. Ergonomic features include a fully-adjustable steering column and an adjustable seat with armrests and deluxe suspension. Cruise control and a power-assisted traction pedal help navigate extra long shifts. Ease-of-maintenance is another plus on the 580-D. Details like the easy-access radiator-filter, hinged air-cooler and dual-battery slide-out tray make it a breeze to service. Belts also are easy to reach and blade spindles can even be accessed without removing the covers.
