Year 7 Technology - Assessment Task Desk Tidy Project Outcomes assessed in assessment task 4.1.1 4.2.1 4.2.2 4.3.1 4.3.2 4.5.1 4.5.2 4.6.1

applies design process that respond to needs and opportunities in each design project generates and communicates creative design ideas and solutions selects, analyses, presents and applies research and experimentation from a variety of sources applies a broad range of contemporary and appropriate tools, materials and techniques with competence in the development of design projects demonstrates responsible and safe use of a range of tools, materials and techniques in each design project applies management processes to successfully complete design projects produces quality solutions that responds to identified needs and opportunities in each design project Applies appropriate evaluation techniques throughout each design project

Design Realisation (Quality design solutions & practical skills) The desired outcome of design project is a Quality design solution. A Quality Design Solution will: - be highly suitable for its intended use - successfully achieve all of the Criteria for Success - be appropriate for the target market - effectively and safely use appropriate technologies (see practical skills) - and minimise impact on the environment as much as possible In developing a design solution for this project, students will be required to carefully consider the Proposal, Criteria for Success, needs of the Target Market and appropriate use of Technologies to achieve a Quality Design Solution. Through various activities as part of this project, students will develop Practical Skills in designing and producing using Timber and Polymer Technologies. The level of proficiency of a student’s Practical skills when constructing is a key part of achieving a Quality Design Solution as well as developing student’s skill and confidence for future design projects. Attention to detail and proficiency of skill will be evident in the design, construction and finishing of the Desk Tidy including: - cutting, drilling, filing and sanding of individual pieces - joining – gluing / screwing / slotting other - accuracy of assembly - lacquered finish

Project evaluation (In class task) On the assessment date for the project, you will complete an in class written evaluation. You will be provided with the evaluation sheet at the beginning of the class and will complete the task as a final in class assessment for the unit. Management is a core skill that will be developed throughout each design project. Skilful management of resources, including time and personal attitude, is essential for students to achieve success in their work and to reach their potential. Students working practice throughout the project will demonstrate: - understanding of management techniques - ability to successful implement management techniques - effective use of time - personal effort input
